This year has been brutal. But just because it didn't turn out how you expected, that doesn't mean you're off track. It doesn't mean that you're a failure. You're exactly where you need to be.
Thanks so much to Grayson Wise (IG @graysonwise_) for the help filming the tennis scene! And thanks Will, Sandy, Brian, and Des for playing Tennis while I sat in the middle of your game!

im so unmotivated and im failing all my classes, to be honest im not trying my best either because im so caught up in my head and in my emotions, i feel hopeless and now im worried about where im going to go to college, if i can even GET IN to college, and how disappointed my parents probably are in me. im sad and hate myself, i dont like the way i look and i feel stupid for the decisions i make or decisions ive made in the past. i cant help but feel like a failure, i feel like ive given up on trying. i tried to fix it but those feelings keep coming back. maybe it just takes time ig but i feel like i dont have time considering im going to be a senior next year (im failing my classes) and i have to figure out how im going to graduate and what im going to do after high school.

hey, ive been going through something similar. Not quite the same, im generally pretty good about loving myself- its more like i feel like im helpless and that life and the future is hopeless or doomed sometimes, or life isnt as interesting as it used to/was promised to be. but no matter what your going through, PLEASE know that you can talk to people. it really is okay to do that. you are not a faliure... life NEVER goes as planned, and that is OK. i used to think i would end up in NYC when i was young, my whole life. Recently i realised what i good idea it could be to instead go to sweden when im older. but who knows, i could end up just going around the country in a van too, living my best free life:) or i could be a backpacker, or a therapist, or a teacher, etc. maybe i could even get known somehow (not that i really want to be, but yeah lol) but you get the idea. The fact that you feel like you are hopeless and that you dont know if your gonna get into college, and the way you look, decisions youve made before, the future, failing classes, etc. you need to take it more easy on yourself. Right now, shit is hard. more than ever. its COMPLETELY understandable that you would be failing your classes and feeling so bad! so many people are right now.... we can all relate to this, and thats beautiful. we can learn from this, and grow from it. but seriously, if you ever need to talk just reach out to someone.

Another thing that helps me when I’m really down and unmotivated, feeling overwhelmed and like a failure is the saying “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” You don’t have to be perfect or excel at everything. You don’t feel like showering? Just change clothes and wash your face. Want to take time to stretch or workout but aren’t motivated/don’t have the time? Stretch for 5 minutes. Do a few reps of a few exercises. Don’t feel like studying for hours? Just read through your notes/chapter once and reward yourself at the end for doing so. Baby steps are so important. We tend to have this idea that we need to put our everything into all of our tasks throughout the day, but giving yourself grace and doing just a little is better than nothing at all. And sometimes taking that first step can motivate you to go further or finish the task! Like quickly brushing over my teeth with water when I’m too tired makes me then think, well why not just put on toothpaste and finish properly since I’m already here?

@haunts3479
@haunts3479 3 жыл бұрын
yeah but people always have a counter argument of saying perfection does not exist or what you think of perfection is wrong. So the perfect characters are actually the best entertaining and inspiring stories. the ones who are relatable are mostly the boring ones since they are the most common. True perfectionism is so fucking amazing especially compared to mediocre or relatable characters. It is so played out with characters and people making it out the mud and possibly overcoming problems. i find the pseudo-inspirational videos insanely annoying since all I see is people watching these and think they are doing or learning anything, though it depends on if they actually comprehend something to better their life. You will mostly have to learn from experiences and self reflection which the video does imply somewhat. The thing I hate is people like characters that overcome their problems and relate when they themselves are not actually doing anything to overcome their problems.

I remember when failing a class was catastrophic. Now if I was told I was failing a class, I would be ecstatic because it would mean I'm still young enough to turn things around. There DOES come a point where you're beyond the point of correcting your life, and trust me, you DON'T want to get there. All that's left on the other side is realizing that you have another 30 or so years of living every day in abject pain and suffering. Hell does exist, and it's knowing that you've completely failed, everything you try to do to fix things just makes it worse, and no one is coming to help. I'd take being stabbed with pitchforks day and night any day.

I’ve heard it a hundred times before. “You’re not off track, you’re exactly where you need to be”. But it hit different this time. Brought tears to my eyes. I needed this, thank you. I’ve been on the grind for all my school years. Straight A student all through college. Made it through grad school with only 1 C, the rest As. Graduated early. Got married right after school. Now I’m grinding to get my CPA license. Feels like I never stopped to consider what I actually WANTED in life. In my present life. I’ve been fighting so hard for my future I’ve been missing the present. I made the decision to quit trying for the CPA until later in life when I may need it or when I know I want to stay in my profession. When I share this news, everyone is disappointed. In my eyes, this is the proudest decision I’ve ever made. To claim MY life back. And to make a decision for my HAPPINESS rather than my title or for money. Unfortunately, success is defined by money or accomplishments in today’s society. That’s just how it is. And even from those who love and support me, they define success that way as well. So I’ll just have to be proud on my own. I’m taking my life back. I’ve been confident in myself up to this point bc I’ve done exactly what I’m SUPPOSED to do. Perfectly. And even then, I struggled with self-confidence. Trying to do something I’m not supposed to do is incredibly difficult. How come I can say “I’m trying for my CPA license!” And everyone congratulates me, even though it’ll be painful, and hard, and expensive, and full of failure and retakes and take time away from my newlywed life? But when I say “I did a creative project just for fun! Check out this drawing! Or I’m learning Japanese for no reason other than it’s fun!” People look at me like I’m worthless ? How are we supposed to find our passions or happiness in a world like this?

Thank you very much for this video even though I have just seen it this year this has really resonated with me as growing up my relationship with failure wasnt a good one I almost hated the feeling of failing a lot as I saw it as a bad thing and not something that would make me better. Fast forward now and I am 23 years old and only realized that actually in order to become better at something or master it we have to fail otherwise we become stagnant in our progress and there isn't anything to measure. Figuring out this life isn't easy but as long as you get up and keep trying over and over again eventually you'll figure out what it is you want to do and how you're going to get there. I am 23 and still don't have it completely figured out felt like a failure for a while but reality hits you and you realise that your actually on the right track but it's that figuring out part that you still kind of need to do.😅😅😅😅😅😅

Jake, you are truly such an inspiration, almost surreal. Your videos are captivating and your innocent appeal and subtle style of video making are so infectious to watch; I view each of your videos in awe and can't wait to see where you go next and what kind of philosophical clarity of life that you will spread to the world during your ventures. In the past, I too have seen a lot of this country and some great parts of the world - but unfortunately, I failed to capture it in photos and/or videos like so many do today. Although I wish I would have then, I love that you do now!! :-) Thank you Bro.

At a difficult stage in my life where I’m having to decide where I want to take my future, whether that be uni or travelling or whatever. Many people would think if you didn’t go to uni well you’re a failure traditionally because you haven’t gone and done a “normal” job. So although I may not be perfect to society as long as I don’t have any regrets I won’t be a failure to myself. This helped me out thank you 🖤

Wow. I really needed to hear this. God bless you. I work at an essential business and I lived with my family most of 2020, so I didn't feel the isolation like a lot of people did. But more than ever this year I *eat myself up* with anxiety that I have to do more, I have to be MORE. Just in the last week I've had a major revelation about how unhealthy my deeply rooted and hidden beliefs about success and competence are. I'm only 21, I'm very new at "being an adult", and I only just moved out of my parent's home 3 months ago. I feel so. much. pressure. And yet God has been sending video after video after video as I do research on youtube, that I didn't seek out at all, but that I *needed*. This was one of them. Also I totally subscribed because your content is TOP NOTCH, seriously. And I love that Matt D'Avella watches your videos :D he's amazing too.

Jake I can’t thank you enough for this video, it’s so hard to not be consistently comparing and contemplating what your next step in life should be by what the world tells you or shows your. Instead of just living your life you wind up living your own life vicariously through pretty picture’s and idea’s all while not living.

I'm 21. No idea on why I'm studying something I'm completely not interested in. I've no friends and never had a girlfriend. I feel like a loser for not figuring out everything. It doesn't matter about age. I know most of yall gonna say stuff like you are so young. But time flies. Two years ago I was just 19 pre COVID now 2 years passed just like that. So yeah it doesn't matter. I don't even feel like taking a step to improve towards it. I just feel so burned out and unmotivated.

My friend, I would give anything to be 17 again. I am 28 and I feel like I made the wrong decisions. Set your priorities, don't do things thinking that you need to prove yourself to someone else, and don't think that you have all the time in the world, it seems like yesterday that I was 17, now I'm 28. Don't take life too seriously, but don't become irresponsible either, balance is the key. This comment is just because I would like someone to have told me this when I was a teenager.
