I love Santa Barbara. My girl is a travel nurse and we lived out there for three months, right behind the vons shopping center. Had a nice view of the ocean. Also we slept in our car 1 night before moving out there to check it out. We slept in a parking lot by the college. Address was 5905 sandpit Rd in Goleta. It was nice with bathroom and restraint. Also down state st a place called sandbar is cool restaurant and institution brewery is cool.

I enjoyed the video. I agree with a lot of the commenters that you should do a GoFundMe for a new car. I understand you wanting to do it on your own. But no one is forced to donate. Hey Jake I added another comment and also have another thing to add. First off congrats on your recovery thus far. I too am a recovering addict (Opiates) who delivers gig apps while in recovery. I'm actually from near that area. Your best bet is to aim for delivery 20 minutes south of SB, between Ventura and Camarillo, just that stretch along the 101. Stay close to the freeway when looking for orders, as that's where all the stores are. Yes, there will be wait times, but you should only average like 4-5 minutes wait per order during peak hours at max. It's not as busy as LA, but there's bigger tips since there's more family orders out here. So it can be really good actually. Sometimes weekend day shifts are a little slow, as I imagine ppl are out to the beach and what not. But not always. Dinner's are always good. When in doubt, park near a chipotle. That's my go to for finding orders. If this area doesn't work out for you, I know another area that's great for delivery, but it's a secret. It's my stomping grounds so I can't let ppl know about gig work here lmaoo. But if Ventura-Camarillo doesn't work, message me and I'll let you know.

Jake, my understanding is that Santa Barbara has "safe lots" to park in for people living in their cars. Have you ever checked that out?
@ESPMe3 жыл бұрын
Those safe lots are for people who consider themselves homeless. There is usually a waiting list to get in. Then they assign car dwellers to a social worker who tries to help them get into traditional housing. Safe lots aren’t really designed for nomads.

My current daily driver is a 2015 Mazda 5 mini-mini van. Bigger than let's say a Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe, smaller than a Dodge Caravan, Toyota Sienna , Honda Odyssey. What I like about the Mazda 5 is the small yet utilitarian aspect. Compact 6 seater. Very decent gas mileage. Machinations are to gut out the rear and turn it into boon docking survival pod. If I had no choice but to live in a vehicle, what I have currently could potentially be a suitable candidate. Can be parked anywhere while living/sleeping in it covertly.

Nice job on the video, Jake. I like the way you do things your way; it shows originality and character. Most people who have seen these types of videos think they have to have a lot more stuff, you know, like window covers, fridges and stoves. A big cargo space for a bed.... and cabinets, cookery, closets, dogs, cats.... a pretty model girlfriend to follow around and film her butt! And out on BLM land somewhere, which is also nice, much of that is necessary. Especially the model. You pay more for food, maybe. But a mostly veggie diet doesn't have to be terribly expensive, either. Keep on truckin'.... as Mav (on YT) would say, and doing it your way as Frank sang. Many blessings!!

It's especially great for recovery, bc it's a lifestyle choice, which is what a lot of addicts need, a constant escape to an adrenaline rush that provides a lifestyle. Along with myself, I have friends for whom surfing has helped in recovery. Although it's very time consuming to learn, you'll probably need at least 5 sessions to catch your own wave. But it's super fun from all levels, from beginner to advance. And obviously great for CA. In between surfing, skating, youtube, dude you'll be living the dream. And you'll meet surfer friends. Also great content ideas may come from it. Hopefully you read this man god bless

How much is it to park out there? Do you pay to park on deliveries or are you ninja? Asking because being homeless on my streets is tough. I feel like a change of scenery is what I need to not be stuck. Waking up next to the beach seems like it would be awesome.
@JakeMcCollum3 жыл бұрын
No one should ever have to pay to pick up food doing deliveries. That’d be ridiculous. Don’t park your car to sleep in a lot that requires you to pay. You’ll get kicked out. If you’re using the paid parking lot to do activities or go for a run or do something that’ll take some time then just pay. SB paid parking is really cheap compared to like LA. If you’re just gana sit in your car to chill then don’t pay. No one can ticket you for just sitting in your car.
@kirkjordan87183 жыл бұрын
@@JakeMcCollum I've never paid to sleep in a lot BUT I was asking if that's what you were doing. You can pretty much do it anywhere in Denver as long as it's not blatantly obvious but sometimes the more obvious the better. I've only been knocked by cops once and they just did it to scare the bajesus out of me. My problem is having other homeless knock on my windows asking for change. You get into a fight with one and they know where you sleep and what you drive and all of a sudden all your spots within your safe zone radius of where they scavenge is compromised... I was just curious if it was a daily expense or not or if it's dependant on what you're doing. I don't accept orders that make me work hard to park but I've never really done Cali either. If I had to pay a meter everytime I couldn't roll.

I literally rolled my windows down on my older electric window auto and main switch was out, had to go to a repair place and have it fixed. Not cheap. So I am frugal and you might hate this but start buying some bread and meat products and make your own sandwich or peanut butter, you will be real surprised how much you can save on food. Wish you luck but keep things repaired on auto, so you can get around safely.
