I still believe Zurg would've been better if they made him Buzz's father like how he originally is
@slenderfoxx37977 ай бұрын
Zurg was never meant to be a real villain hes just a toy like them but advertised as the antagonist for Buzz in their "story". But hes just another person or toy like them lol. Sure they could have delved further into him thinking hes meant to be the villain just like how Buzz thinks hes an actual space ranger...but it's not really necessary either. Not every Pixar movie needs a super villain or even main antagonist. He was there for more lighthearted comedy. That's all. Besides Stinky Pete is there as the bigger "villain" with his greedy behaviour.

Something i really like about AUTO is the design; Pixar made a literal ship steering wheel robot intimidating af 💀 Also, another thing funny about AUTO is how the Buy n Large corporation made AUTO, a steering wheel robot who's only purpose is to be the ship's autopilot, and decided "you know what? Let's also give him an electrical taser."
@pleisha7 ай бұрын
Tho this day, I still have no idea who tought that was a good gadget for an autopilot. On what kind of fucked situations does it need one of those???
@valarmis7 ай бұрын
I always assume it was meant for use on some technology in the ship, like some kind of an emergency electrical charge, and not against humans
@brandonfazbear42196 ай бұрын
One way it could be seen is how it could've been a protocol added to AUTO to prevent any reason to return to Earth as they followed the order to not return to Earth. So they would add the defense protocol to AUTO to neutralize any target so they don't gain any control over the Axiom to return to Earth. Another reason could be for if any rogue passengers try to attack the ship and take control, AUTO could be able to defend themself and neutralize the enemy. They probably had to take many precautions when building the Axiom as they made this in order to make this new home for all of civilization as safe as possible, but AUTO took the order very seriously as programmed to and caused the entire main conflict of the film and used the defense protocol to not let anything drive them away from their orders.

43:28 something I wanna add about this line. Chef Boyardee was a real person. Hector Boiardi was an immigrant who helped low income families during the the Great Depression by selling jars of sauce to families. Pasta is and was pretty cheap, so it was a way for families to feed themselves during these times. He would establish his brand later on under the name Chef Boy-ar-dee so that Americans could pronounce it easier. There's more to the story, but what's important is that he was a real person who has fallen from the public eye to become just another mascot for cheap food. Sound familiar? The context makes this line a pretty devastating burn to be honest.

Personally I've always had an issue with how charles muntz was handled in UP. It's one of the few times where i think a sympathetic villain would have been the better option because his backstory is actually really sad. He has his entire reputation destroyed over something that wasn't his fault and tries to fix it and over time slowly decends into madness over his obsession. I always thought it was a bit lame that they just make him generic evil man when his motivations are actually really understandable

I still say Screenslaver had a good option. It should have been both siblings. Winston is the guy in the mask and the brains behind the scheme, and Evelyn is the one behind the technology of the plan. They are faking crimes and putting real people in danger to make a point as to why superheroes need to come back. It plays off that same issue of the first movie, if idolizing people but not learning the lessons you need to, but also comes to a different conclusion while getting similar results. Syndrome made an issue and solved it himself while deeming no one else fit to be a hero. The Deavors could have been making issues and solving it through heroes to show why they are needed, which could leave a more powerful message at the end about doing the right thing for the right reasons.
@X-SPONGED4 ай бұрын
Very much agreed. If the first movie tells the tale of how bitter hatred stemming from disappointment in meeting your idol can lead a person down a dark path, the second could tell a tale on how blind idolatry can turn into dangerous fanaticism.

My favorite part about Ercole is his "we are afraid of you" speech. Like, the other humans in the film were after sea monsters due to fear of the unkown, and it was actually understandable. Put yourself in their shoes: were you really be willing to bet those supposedly monstrous sea beings were peaceful? But Ercole KNOWS Luca and Alberto are harmless children, but he uses the fear everybody, understandably, has of them to justify HIS greed and hate (he only wants to kill them because A: He wants the prize money and B: He hates their guts). Plus, the way he says that without a twinge of fear in his voice is what sells it for me.

Monsters University even makes things even more interesting with the whole backstory of how they all met. Further proof that Randall wanted revenge on Sully was the line: "That's the last time I lose to you, Sullivan!" Which led me to believe that Randall held a grudge against Sully way before Monsters Inc.
@kflip115 ай бұрын
Even though I think Monsters University is inferior overall, I really like how Randall started off as Mike's roommate only to turn to the dark side (one flaw of this movie however is that this transition for Randall is entirely offscreen). Then when you rewatch Monsters Inc, the line "you don't know how long I've wanted to do that to you, Sullivan" line is much more impactful because you're able to connect more dots
@unknown_limes5 ай бұрын
@@kflip11 I totally understand seeing that movie as inferior, it does have a pacing issue, but I've always loved Monsters University as a prequel. Mike was a great comedic voice in the original, but adding some flesh to his character and challenging his self confidence was necessary to fully round him out (ha). With Monsters at Work also in play, the franchise is a pretty well done series about a world with a clearly biased social structure that needed to change and the duo who put in the effort to create a kinder reality. Of course, the bulk of that work was done in Monsters Inc, but the other two entries show us 1) how the previous social structure left incredibly capable monsters at a disadvantage for things they can't control and 2) how the process of changing this social structure was, in fact, a complicated process requiring people to make major changes to their lives and thought patterns.

Syndrome is hands down Pixar's best villian. I love everything about him. Design,character,motivation and voice. I also love the fan theory that he was actually working with the US Government,helping them eliminate the super's,giving them an excuse to terminate the expensive program that relocates them as shown in Incredibles 2,and giving them more money to spend elsewhere. This politician is so full of rage and fear that his/her new family would be killed again if supers were reinstated and decided to use technology to make the supers look bad. But there's a flaw in the system and now the Screenslaver kidnaps Evelyn, who also feels that ppl depend on supers too much but would never go as far as killing them but still wants to help her brother, but makes it look like she's the villain. For me, the problem with Evelyn Deavor (Screenslaver) is that her motivation seems to conflict with her actions. She doesn't want heroes to come back but she helps her brother to bring them back. I get that it's for the twist but, we don't see any hints of villainy or shadiness from her, outside of her talk with Elastigirl about society, until she reveals herself in the third act. Not mention her reason for hating supers makes no sense. She hates them because her dad decided to call supers for help during a burglary but was killed, because supers were just outlawed. Why is she upset at them? It's not their fault he died. The supers were forced by the government to go into hiding and her father didn't know that so that's why he called. Even then, it was his choice not to call the police. I beat that if he called the cops instead, she'd probably be upset at them and not supers.
@FranciscoPetrucioJunior7 ай бұрын
She was mad because her father trusted supers more than he trusted himself. Understand this: she believes people have blind trust in supers. Her father, despite having a godanm secret room, chose to try and call heroes that he knew were illegal. Nah, nah, you're right. I'm a preschool teacher, and 1) those toys are definitely not safe/age appropriate, and 2) those teachers are doing absolutely terrible at their job if the kids are playing that rough. Toddlers gonna toddler, but part of our job is discouraging destructive behavior as early as possible. Kids who rip their toys apart will not fare well in higher levels of school

I will say this about Incredibles 2: It handled feminism a lot better than the Barbie Movie did. In the Barbie movie, everyone was whiney and one sides, while in this one, you see a stay at home mother get back into the field and deal with the changes that comes with being a woman. But never did she assume her husband or any man she meets as a representation for all men.

Maybe I’m old fashioned but Screenslaver and Zurg… should’ve just been… Screenslaver and Zurg? Not everything needs to be a twist or subversion. You can just have an evil villain or a giant scary robot with goals and morals you couldn’t possibly understand? When I saw the previews for Lightyear, I was so excited because Zurg looked fucking awesome. This giant towering, 13 foot menace. But no. He had to be some stupid lame twist in a boring as hell movie

Randall Boggs becomes an overall better antagonist for me when taking into account Monsters University. We see a version of him that's not so bad, just desperate for the approval of his peers. This desperation easily leads him to ditch a great friend that gave him good advice for a toxic fraternity which ultimately verbally abused him the second he let them down. We see this same desperation for social approval in Monsters Inc, as he works harder than anyone except Mike and Sully to become the top scarer because he knows it'll bring him the fame he deeply wants. Randall initially had a chance to be a real part of an incredibly successful scaring team and make real, life-long friends. But instead, he was totally blinded and ended up a vindictive jerk playing right into the hands of a greedy corporate boss.

42:58 So basically he's the food critic version of Armond White (excluding the part where he turns around after eating Ratatouille). Syndrome is my favorite animated movie villain. He's a great mind that doesn't accomplish anything because of his own ego and his ego is second to none and that is what gets him destroyed in the end, he thinks he's the only one he needs while the Incredibles learn the value of teamwork and family.

If Waternoose knew about the power of laughter, I have no doubt he'd have gone completely into that instead. Because he's not a villain because he has bad intentions, he's a villain because his desperation has pushed him to do horrible, inhumane things.

Alright, I've never watched nor cared for Lightyear, but here's an idea on how you could make it so much better: You said that Buzz is shown to be a perfectionist who will do anything to make sure everything is done right. He also manages a ragtag group who he has his rare outbursts at: Make the juniors the villains - Have it revealed that the constant need to be perfect and lashing out when they have fun cause Buzz to unwittingly instill morbid expectations into the Juniors, and the reason they want to alter time (maybe have half the team having passed in the backstory to avoid too many villains) is to make everything "perfect" and finally make the version of Buzz in their heads proud. That way, the moral of the story is maintained, and the future and past versions of the juniors can show a range of reactions, from losing your soul to expectations and stress, to the more goofy member realising what their future self can accomplish, striving to become a healthier version of it (making the statement that self-improvement isn't itself the evil, against what all the "be yourself" shlock would say.)

I will give a screenslaver this. He is right for almost half the movie, and I like retro hypnotic villains. He also looks pretty awesome compared to others, and they should not have made him some twist villain decoy. Imagine how better the movie would be. The Underminer was pretty cool too. I think this because he has the villain clichés of comic books and his disfigurement also supports it in a penguin way. I also love that he has the smallest film time but you remember him to the end of the movie.

Honestly I would put Underminer a bit higher since all he really needed to do was serve as a generic villain that showed up at the end of 1 and start of 2 to show how the two movies are connected. Despite that he went above and beyond to be an enjoyable villain despite his small screentime.

During my first watch I thought that Syndrome actually was a Super. Having a superpower doesn't neccessarily have to be a physical one. Super intelligence is def a thing and I thought Syndrome had it. Think about it, he not only made enough extraordinary technology and gadgets to fund his big ass company AND island. But he did this in 15 years!! He build his empire in 15 years! That is insane. If the movie would have had a twist in the end where it's revealed that Syndrome is in fact a Super, I would have bought it immediately. Nevertheless, the movie is fantastic as it is!

Super power by default is usually more than the ordinary. Good video but I think Lotso is ranked too low. I'd rank him above Sid. I know what Sid mutilates all the toys but Lotso is more meancing and less reformable. Also I'd rank Lotso above Dean Hardscrabble, yeah she is an antagonist to Mike and Sully but I wouldn't call her that much of a villain just a college administrator with a cold-hearted personality. I'll be honest though that the top 10 all are ahead of Lotso. You made a good case for Al for example. Some like Syndrome, Randall, the Prospector and Waternoose are obvious top villians.
