I wouldn't say Homer's had everything handed to him. In other episodes, we've seen Homer go through struggles and trials throughout his early life like in the episode 'And Maggie Makes Three' where he left his job at the power plant to take a job at a bowling alley which pays less, but is more enjoyable. But when Marge became pregnant, Homer had to leave that job and go back to the power plant which left him feeling depressed.

This is probably the first KZbin video I've watched that made me understand someone's quibbles with 'My Sister, My Sitter'. Anyone else I seen before who didn't like the episode don't go much further than "it's mean". This one though? The points make sense and they correlate in an intuitive, straightforward manner. Honestly, it's starting to make me feel apathetic towards it, I thought it was mildly amusing when I first watched it. In regards to the second worst, it contains a brief and non-intrusive comparison related to how far husband-and-wife sitcom plots have come in the last few decades. It even has me interested in checking out the more modern examples when I find the time. On the whole, very well-written coverage of your worst picks.

Happy 10th anniversary! First off, so what if Cape Fear isn’t your favorite Sideshow Bob episode? All of his classic era episodes are pretty stiff competition. Secondly, I think my favorite episodes of the classic era would be Treehouse Of Horror V, The Last Temptation of Homer, Homer’s Enemy, Last Exit To Springfield, and Cape Fear.

Seperare Vocations is the best Simpsons episode and I didn't I would ever even see it in another best list. The role reversal is such a good premise and Bart taking the blame is one of the best Simpsons scenes.

Well there are so many episodes that I like and many that I don’t like so it would be hard to remember them but it’s good that you put the Frank Grimes episode in there but what do you think about the Real Seymour Skinnier episode?

Interesting angle to approach the list from. I definitely would have gravitated towards picking what I think are the funniest episodes as the best ones as opposed to episodes that I feel work the best from a storytelling and thematic standpoint. I agree that the latter does always improve an episode but comedy is the primary reason I watch the show so I’d pick the funnier episode almost every time. On that point I think my sister my sitter is pretty funny, which allows me to mostly forgive how brutal it is to lisa. I think part of the (dark) comedy of that episode is how absurdly quickly the town turns on her with like Helen Lovejoy shouting that she’s on drugs with no evidence and everyone including homer believing her. I’d probably put mostly season 1 episodes as the worst since they’re typically not too funny and most of them don’t have stories that are interesting or emotionally compelling enough to make me want to rewatch them. The exceptions to this are moaning lisa (which is an amazing episode) and Krusty gets busted. But bart the genius and some enchanted evening are pretty bad. Really ugly animation due to being the first two episodes produced before Klasky got their shit together and actually listened to what the Simpsons team wanted, not particularly funny, and not very compelling from a story standpoint. I do agree with homers enemy being number one though due to how absolutely genius it is for the reasons you and others have stated. Would also probably put bart gets and f pretty high up - by far the best of the emotionally grounded episodes IMO and still very resonant / a message that people still need to hear re: education. Not in any order but for worst I’d probably put: bart the genius, some enchanted evening, homers odyssey, barts dog gets an f, the first two clip shows if we’re counting those, and call of the Simpsons just off the top of my head For best in no order I’d put: bart gets an f, homers enemy, barts inner child (my personal favorite episode), the casino episode (can’t remember exactly how it’s stylized), the hockey episode (forgot it’s name), itchy scratchy and poochie, sideshow Bob Roberts (incredibly underrated IMO), and mr lisa goes to Washington. Also just as an aside - I think bart vs thanksgiving is a really underrated and both very funny and insightful and emotionally resonant episode that I don’t see people talk about really ever. Didn’t like it as a kid because it’s not always laugh out loud funny but it has one of the most insightful and realistic portrayals of barts character I’ve seen on the show. The part where he imagines the family not accepting his apology is an absolutely genius portrayal of how people will sometimes feel guilty about something and then cast themselves as a victim of the negative reaction to their own actions so they can avoid that guilt because it’s painful to think about. It’s something I can remember doing when I was younger and not something I’ve seen explored anywhere in media apart from that episode.

Yeah…Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes is a weak episode. It’s really rushed. It takes half the ep for Herb to get to the Simpsons home.

Oh wow, I didn't remember Marge's line in Moaning Lisa being quite as touching as that but it really did just make me well up. It really was the perfect thing to say in that situation, and something I wish people had said to me at various points in my life. I'll try and kept similar words in mind so I can use them in the future to help out others.

Homer's Triple Bypass was way better than Dog of Death. It had a similar premise but the difference is that the episode relies on dark comedy and not sappiness.

it says a lot that the worst episodes are never mentioned so when a casual who hasn't seen all of the episodes but knows of some big name episodes hears them and the plot, you feel like these are brand new episodes or something. like these are early episodes? super odd.
