Jameis Winston Disrespects Head Coach, Atlanta Falcons & NFL, Reveals Athletic Entitlement | Ep 593

Jameis Winston may have jogged off the field on Sunday eating W’s, but his late-game shenanigans have him taking the L’s on Monday. Leading Atlanta 41-17 with seconds remaining in the game, New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen called for the kneel-down to run out the clock despite having the ball on the Falcons' 1-yard line. That’s when backup QB Jameis Winston decided to go rogue. Instead of taking a knee, Winston handed the ball off to reserve running back Jamaal Williams. Winston said it was a “team decision” to defy the head coach and let Williams score his lone touchdown of the season. Steve Kim joins “Fearless” to debate Winston’s actions, and Whitlock reveals how his actions are a by-product of the entitlement mentality of athletes. Bengals QB Jake Browning’s girlfriend broke NFL social media with her “onesie,” taking a page from Taylor Swift's game-day playbook. Whitlock and Steve discuss the “Taylor” effect on football broadcasting, plus the pair debate Seattle’s victory cigars after the Seahawks fail to make the playoffs and the growing battle between Pat McAfee and ESPN. In your new daily dose of Stephen A. Smith, Whitlock and Steve review his rant about the racist Houston Texans from one year ago that hasn’t aged very well following the franchise’s AFC South title win with a black rookie coach and quarterback.

@lochnessmonster5149 Doesn't matter teams are like companies, and companies have an authority chain of command, the coach is like your boss, even if you don't like him you have to do what he says pertaining to the job, you pull this crap at most jobs you're fired. Insubordination shouldn't be encouraged it means no respect for authority and you can't have that on a football team.

Jason's being a little unfair to Jameis Winston here, regarding being uncoachable and the like. The issues with his turnovers are actually overstated... they're not that far removed from what Peyton Manning had in his first 5 years, and *without* the extreme instability with the front office. He's wrong for "going rouge" and he knows it -- hence the apology... but at the same time a decision like that is something that helps to endear him to some/most of his teammates, and he probably ALSO related to Jamaal Williams's situation -- feeling somewhat railroaded by the organization (and in Winston's case, the league itself). In any case, his willingness to take these slings and arrows is definitely something making his teammates appreciate him more. They wanted to get a score for a player who was productive last year, only to completely disappear this year for w/e (unknown to me) reason. Going from (league leading?) 17 TDs last year, to what would have been zero this year, is WILD. There's no way that wasn't part of the consideration, in this lost season.

@@mikez6683 see him in interviews and the like that aren't from NFL reporters and such, and you'll know he's fine (not suffering from some mental illness). Does he go into a "mode" of sorts when dealing with the media, sometimes yes... i think it's the combination of some media training and his own personality as he's trying to be friendly, funny, a leader, and trying to not say too much that would get him in trouble. additionally, it could be the idea about a person being "too raa raa" at times, which just doesn't work for every person. exactly what part of the locker room interview proves that to you? to me, he just disagrees with the reporters' ideas/position.

@@mikez6683 when he said "as a team" he almost certainly means "as the offense" or "as the offensive team/unit on the field"... talking about the players of/in that group, so it's not really a contradiction so much as not being as clear as some ppl might like. i follow that it's your opinion though, and you're def entitled to it. likewise, i see it as him (and the rest of the players in that huddle) relating to the position that Jamaal Williams is in, and them wanting to get him in the endzone for at least once in a season that was over. which helps explain the way he seems to supported by his teammates (including some former teammates). idk if you've seen the tweets/messages, but I've only seem them trying to support/protect him against all of this criticism coming his way as a result. his handling of it is also helping to inspire there defenses of him because (apparently) they see it as him being willing to take slings and arrows for one of his/their guys... they see "valor" in him with this incident.

@@mikez6683 Yeah -- i've seen a couple of them thanks to FB... i'm a fan of two other teams (Chargers and Buccaneers), with one of them being a rival to the Saints. i continue to root for Winston because i'm too aware of how the organization and league did him dirty in some ways (not that he's just a victim, for the record. he's not without responsibility in his pro experiences/career... but i just know the Buccs failed to position him best ot succeed and the league generally dislikes him [thanks to some of the initial bad press around him]). i admittedly have some bias in his favor as a result of what i just laid out, but i don't think i'm saying what i do out of bias (but of course i could be wrong). anyway, this video explains *some* of the stuff i mentioned with teammates backing him: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2rMXoyOlJhpZrM it also aligns with your feelings on him and possibly having some screws loose (to put a different way lol). as far as i'm concerned this has been a good/pleasant exchange 👍

So people should have a cap on how much money they make? By your logic everyone should have one source of income and that’s it. Don’t musicians sell their music along with merchandise and do tours? Wasn’t Bill Gates already insanely rich but decided to make the Xbox gaming system. Who is the next person to tell someone how much money is enough and how to make their money?

The women getting attention at sporting events has been a long time thing. Pamela Anderson got discovered at a Canadian Football game, if I'm not mistaken. These are not sports fans, these are opportunists, who use their good looks to get attention. These women know excatly what they are doing. That has transitioned into tgem being on the sidelines and in the the studios.

Disrespecting the NFL? The same NFL that put the Rams through to the Super Bowl over the Saints? Not calling the most obvious pass interference call in the history of the NFL. Kamara literally beats the shit out of a random person and everyone is ok with that? He gets a three game suspension? You think Winston cares? No, he does not. Why would you care to be a back up on this team? A pathetic season. A season we could have been and should have been winning the division. So many issues and everyone wants to cry about this? The HC and OC need to be fired. Leadership starts from the top down. Any assumed disrespect from players is due to a weak coach. It was not just Winston. It was the entire offense.

Jason I agree with you a majority of the time, but one thing I’ve noticed about you in all my years listening to your commentary, is that you try way too hard at times to squeeze otherwise isolated incidences into your overall generalized narrative on a certain subject. This didn’t appear to be anything more than a team on the last game of the season, wanting another popular guy on the team to have a touchdown before the end of the year. Them just wanting to get Jamaal Williams a meaningless little touchdown in a game that was already far decided, is all of a sudden a further reprimand on today’s athlete and their disrespect of other coaches? I’m with the Korean on this one 💯

@@PizzleP well when you compare his actions to those who came before him, I think Jason has a point. I can’t think of another QB of past cultures that would have done that….on his own. That’s the important part.

Unfortunately this event moves Jamies Winston far down depth chart of backup QB market (what coach wants a backup QB who has shown he can be a loose cannon…the last thing you want in a backup QB). It also shows Dennis Allen probably has lost the locker room and should step down.

Tbh, i agree with kim... the coach was mad at the wrong team. He should have been mad at his qb for throwing a pick at the end of the game. And furthermore, why was he throwing the ball in the first place when the game was in doubt? THE Falcons could have run out the clock instead of padding stats.

My coach use to always tell me... you tend to get hurt when you're not going 100%. And sure and Hell... I got laid out in a game when I chose to take it easy on a play. I was a sitting duck for a blocker to wipe me out. Surprising the defense like that when they weren't planning on contact put their careers in jeopardy. Jameis is an immature prick and I've looked the other way too many times on this fool, but the Saints need to get rid of that toxic idiot.

Tua has the weakest arm in the league and absolutely cannot handle anything that's not perfectly on schedule. Any minor pressure or movement off his spot, even if it's just once on a drive, ruins the whole possession.

lol I never understood why you not suppose to score a point when a game is already settled. I think that’s disrespectful, even if it’s 99-55, boy you should go dunk that ball. Even if it’s 70-10 in NFL with a minute left, score that touch down man. In football (soccer) teams work hard for just a goal so even if they winning by 10-1 they still gonna score and it’s not a big deal. I think these sports have unnecessary points to give that end up creating ridiculous scores.
