those shapes at the start were used in Paul Mccartney's Blackbird. and from Blackbird, that inspired me to write more of my own songs with those two note chord Interval things. There is so much good shit you can come up with from those shapes.

The "gaps" in between the notes...I quite like. I wish he'd do a version without adding in the G ..just to give a mure pure sound to both the note as well as his voice as I believe his voice blend where that "extra" sound would be. jmo though. I don't care as much for that distorting background note/sound that seems to be dominating pop rock right now.

Sitting here with my guitar, just for a fun experiment I'm playing the pre-chorus riff to The Strokes' Reptilia (same chord shapes; yes, he's not even close to the 1st to use these wide interval shapes in a pop tune), but with adding the droning pedaled G like he does here (and w/o the staccato rhythm)... pretty cool result, turns a blues rock riff into like airy rural mountain music.
@nonyafourthreetwoonezero73508 жыл бұрын
"he's not even close to the 1st to use these wide interval shapes in a pop tune"-- none of the music is made by a machine, so im not sure why your referring to his music as pop. Also the interval may be common, but a lot of musicians dont even fingerstyle. I doubt the the strokes use anything other than their pick; but if they do use three fingers the way james does, please let me know. The Strokes Reptilia is easy to play, it requires no use of fingerstyle technique. The Strokes are more pop than he is. Their music is basic as hell and super easy to play.

still referred to the G string for simplicity sake there buddy... as in "what is typically the G string" on 99% of songs.

This is not a "signature" chord . it's been used to death by Mc Cartney,Frusciante(Scar Tissue...) ,Eric Johnson and tons of Pop band since the past ten years as well as in Future Bass and Chill prod .It's gonna be hard to have a signature chord considering that guys like Holdsworth ,Ted Greene and Mick Goodrick have been exploring almost every shapes possible. And those "signature shapes" have been present in classical guitar repertoire for almost 300 years...still good to show but be hones please.
