Interesting story about Joe Walsh,he came out to NZ many years ago to produce an album for local band Herbs whilst here he was taken to a Marae, pronounced Mari,a spiritual home for the Maori people,he was so moved by the experience he gave up his life of substance abuse and became clean and still is today and of course is Ringo's brother in law..

April 4, 1970 Jacksonville, Fl Coliseum, Iron butterfly, James Gang, Blues Image. My first rock concert at the age of 15. Can you image being 15 in 1970? Five years later I would be fortunate to have become life long friends with Black Sabbath's Personnel manager, Mark Forster, until his passing in 1991...able to tour as a guest with the band throughout those years. 1970. the beginning of it all.

This performance rocks harder than the version I heard on the radio a million times. Thanks. FUNK 49 is the song you want, though.

After Cream & Jimi Hendrix, the 3-musician bands really took off. In America there was The James Gang and Grand funk Railroad and then ELP surfaced in England. Soon thereafter: ZZ Top. Hell, even Led Zeppelin was a 3-musician band + a singer. The James Gang was definitely one of my favorites. Everyone always says Joe Walsh! Joe Walsh!, but he was hardly THE reason for the band's appeal IMO. Walsh obviously had talent, but at least 2/3 of the band's appeal was the contributions of the drummer & bassist. The band was actually named named after the drummer, Jim Fox, whose drumming was always stand-out fantastic. I honestly thought the song output of the James Gang exceeded anything Walsh managed to accomplish either as a solo artist or with The Eagles. You will definitely want to listen to *Funk #49,* *The Bomber,* & *Midnight Man.*

Love this...its sad, but even though I love the Eagles, I'd never gone back & listened to any of Joe's other stuff until this song was played in an episode of the TV show Supernatural (which has amazing music in its soundtrack) and it opened up a whole lot of amazing music to me.

Saw them in Detroit at The Masonic Temple. In the early seventies. Very small theater looked like they were standing in your lap.

That was the real deal stuff right there. The song was decent but the performance was outstanding. A little like early Rush but with tamer vocals. Nice pick, Brian.

Hi Sean, thank you very much! That was an actual live performance; I do think that the studio version is probably a preferable listen . . . it was one of my favorite songs to listen to when radio disc jockey's played it back in the 1970's.

I have never heard of the James Gang, but I reckon this track was a ripper. Brian, you have excellent taste and have brought us a really solid performance. I think George and Alex were a little stingy on their scores, but I can understand that they don't want to create a log jam between 17 and 20. I have had a bit of a soft spot for three-piece outfits since I first heard the Moir Sisters (early 70s I think), Chris will understand this. I still have two favorite three-piece bands that I am very big on; one of them has all members currently under 23yrs old and are on the hunt for a more suitable vocalist, and the other just released their 22nd studio album about a week ago. It's amazing just how full a sound a good three-piece band can make.

Comparing the Moir Sisters (mid to late 70's) to the James Gang, bit like comparing the Bee Gees to Cream, other than having 3 members not too much in common! Also my apologies on tardiness of email replies, I'll get there!

@@christhecurator It was tongue-in-cheek about the long skirted, turtle-necked Moir Sisters. And don't stress, there are no apologies needed about emails. It's all good.

Hi Len, thank you for the kind words! This was a solid live performance, but I actually think that the studio version is better, as Alex wondered about in the reaction. I've been giving both Alex and George grief over scores that I thought were a little too generous, so I cannot complain now (lol!) The studio version might be a candidate for the top of their scoreboard, but that's my biased opinion of course.

There is so much music out there that nobody has heard everything anyone else has. That is the whole point of music reaction channels. Not only that, but instead of "you haven't heard that!??!", I think the reaction should be "It's so great you get to experience this for the first time!" Joe Walsh was on the Drew Carey show if you didn't know. I never realized before watching this how great the drummer for the James Gang was. He is incredible! Really good song and I think I need to hear more of the James Gang. Somebody is going to have to explain to me how George has no math skills being an engineer. 10 or 100 is the same if you use the decimals. I would have gone with 8.2 or so with this and I think the Barnes/Bonamassa track should have been right there with Skynyrd.

There's no difference between 6.2 nd 62 when it comes to scoring, they are both base 10 and it won't give you any more breadth since you can use decimals when using 0 to 10. George was right. Loved this song, a 70's classic. Another great track of theirs is Funk 49.

Had a question for the two of you and Chris what would the chances be to have you gentlemen check out for us King Crimson and the court of the Crimson King. Had a long time in the car and it was radomly chosen on shuffle. I had forgotten how good this song was and how long it was. I've made a point of dusting off my vynl copy and give it a run through with Head Phones. the sound from three great musicians was great in the car cannot wait . Again thank you for todays video being right out of my playbook. Side note being from Canada can you point me in the direction of a good vynl provider that will not have me heading to the bank to upgrade my line of credit Great job today well done gentlemen

Love me some Joe Walsh! Yes, although 6.2 is not the same as 62, 6.2 out of 10 _is_ the same as 62 out of 100, it's just different ways of representing the same thing. Just like 62% is the same as 0.62. Also, all cumberland sausages are kinda fake these days. Traditional cumberland sausages were made from the cumberland pig, which is sadly extinct. Fun fact!
