Snyders vision was to create a mythological story using superheroes as the gods. A visual interpretation of how society deals with our belief an relationship with a higher being. Audiences didn’t seem to pick up on that or care for it cause they had been conditioned to view superhero movies in the way Marvel did. It’ll be interesting to see how Gunn’s DC universe will do.

What Snyder did was very different and why people turned their heads when he did his work on the Justice League! Everyone knows Spiderman's origin story, yet Into the Spiderverse managed to make it feel fresh. Skipping the origin story simply because everyone knows it already is not an excuse. Give him a different origin story! Imagine if Into the Spiderverse had skipped the first 30 minutes and had launched straight into the scene where Miles watches KingPin's minions fight Green Goblin and Spiderman dies. It wouldn't be nearly as compelling, since the audience wouldn't care about the characters. Or imagine if Into the Spiderverse didn't exist at all, and Across the Spiderverse was released in 2018. I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much, since I wouldn't care about the characters. The problem is, James Gunn is a talented writer, but he's mostly good at comedy. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are much better writers overall. (The Mitchells Vs the Machines only has plot holes because they weren't trying to make a compelling narrative. It was a comedy. It was a smaller, streaming-focused project. They were focusing most of their attention on Across the Spiderverse, which is probably the best movie of the year.)

You can tell or modify an origin story so one understands this is the film adaptation vs comic book adaptation of origin stories. For example, when WW origin story changed in the 90s stating she was made from clay, it upset many readers for years but they accepted it after time, towards the late 90s it wasn’t much of an issue anymore. The Joker I’m the Dark Knight told a different origin story. Gunn style is of comedy. DC is known for being Dark and Edgy! They dropped the ball with Shazam! Shazam’s a serious character in adult form, not dark, but serious! Let his kid form be goofy not his adult form!

I would argue that we don't need a movie universe tie-in, the Era of the connected universe franchise has been slowly dying, whatbwe need now is a well written stand alone film, and if it bombs and doesn't get a sequel then so be it, at least we get a good movie made for fans that isn't chained down with the burden of trying to have wide audience appeal

Heroes already existed in the DCEU, that’s literally the point of the “Age of Heroes” scene in the SnyderCut. And even in the modern times, people knew Wonder Woman back in WW1 time and Batman already exited in Gotham for like 20 years. Aquaman has been known for quite a while too, not officially known but still there were people that knew there was a meta human with powers. James Gunn is doing nothing knew, just adding more characters to the universe that probably won’t have their own movie. The ZSJL felt like the Justice League Unlimited to me 🤷

I love Snyder’s take on DC. I enjoyed the trilogy he had because, as a huge comic reader, the movies felt like i was reading the comics. I also liked the reverse Marvel storytelling Zack did. He started of with Superman because he did start off the “superhero” comic genre, Superman is the Dad of comic book superheroes and the Batman coming out next and WW much like BvS. Superman inspired hope in the movies like in the comics to what im confused about every time people say he didn’t. It was all comic accurate for both Superman and Batman along with WW wished that people actually gave Snyder era a chance to actually grow and it would’ve been a great DC movie universe WB is the main problem as well. People depending on nostalgia killed it and DC being in the mainstream for too long has its consequences too Despite all of it, im still going to see what they have in store. I haven’t seen a DC or superhero movie since the Joss Whedon JL until The Flash and honestly The Flash was good but smiling and jokester Batman returned and im not too happy about it
