At first I had mixed reactions…I needed time to process it But after continuing to look at it, it immediately took me back to exactly what I was feeling when I first listened to “Superman” by crash test dummies… It might not necessarily be the most flattering or clean suit…but it’s about what it makes me feel. The context of the image. How he is putting his shoes on one at a time while sitting down like we all do. How he is working, and alone. And sort of inwardly sad. But he doesn’t show it all the time like Batman. This feeling, that I didn’t feel as deeply as when I first did when I first listened to this song years ago, immediately made me fall in love all over again with Gunn’s vision. Superman isn’t about being the strongest, most good looking, flying and breaking the sound barrier in the sky with his cape flapping. Superman is everything this song states. It’s his character. His nature. His nurture from Kent Farm. It’s about suiting up and sort of not wanting to do it all the time. He can get tired. In this photo, What if his parents just died? Then of course he’d be sad, and not want to immediately go off to work all over again. He goes around stopping suicidal teenagers, and helping children who got lost from their parents. He does that because he cares. But on the inside he can feel deeply alone. No one understands him. All that he has given for everyone and how much he never receives. So yes, he’s sitting there…alone, putting his boots on one foot at a time with Metropolis getting attacked in the background. He knows what must be done and what he is about to do all over again, for nothing in return. His suit is worn, it’s all broken down, faded color and not all perfect and clean. It’s wrinkly, it’s bunched over, it’s not tight and fitting. It’s most likely made by his Mother. It’s all these things yet he still puts his uniform on. Now I have all the faith in the world for James Gunn’s vision all over again That’s the true essence of Superman

I think the underpants are some sort of suspender-like harness to change parts of the suit separately. I believe both the pants and boots are new, and the chest part hasn't been changed yet. That might be a reason why the pants and boots don't seem to have any damage.

I would bet real money that we’re seeing Solaris in the background - a living sun of sorts that coludes with Lex Luthor in ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, a comic Gunn has mentioned before as an important influence. In the animated adaptation, Solaris’ role is to absorb the sun and deprive Superman of solar energy, which is also part of Luthor’s plan. In the photo, it looks like storm clouds darkening an otherwise daytime sky. It would also be like his use of Starro in THE SUICIDE SQUAD, which of course had no casting because it was all visual effects. The reveal is similar to Starro’s in THE SUICIDE SQUAD because no one was really talking about Starro or expecting him until part of him showed up in an early trailer.

Whatever happened in the movie before this picture was crazy, because the suit is beat up pretty bad. He OBVIOUSLY was in a few big fight scenes before this moment in the film. I bet it looks dope all clean and crisp. I'm not a huge fan of the collar, I'll be honest. Maybe in some different angles it will look better but for now, not a fan of the collar. That's REALLY my only big complaint. The lines don't bother me as much at all. I do kind of wish the suit was more tight fitting, though. It's a bit baggy in this shot, but when he's standing up, I bet it will look much better. But he was ABSOLUTELY in some big fights to acquire all that damage. The whole suit will be the color of the blue on his knee in the beginning, and we've already seen the logo up close. I just wish he would've gave us a little video or multiple angles with the suit clean. How it looks without all the damage. But for now, I'm ok with it. Don't LOVE it. But definitely don't hate it either. I think it will look dope asf in certain shots.

Positives IMO: Brighter Color Scheme Modern/Iconic Crest Belt & Trunks!!! Design of Boots Negatives IMO: Overly texturized Neck/Cape Molding For an Official Suit Reveal this Photo choice leaves a lot to be desired. Not in Love at First Sight with this Suit, but IMO it's a huge improvement of MOS and S&L so I'll keep my fingers crossed that a better photo will come soon.

I really want to like this, but it reminds me of the new 52 suit a bit too much for my liking. The logo’s fine, the color’s fine, I like that it shows battle damage since that’s never really been done before, but the collar and those lines bother me. There have been multiple Superman suits in live action that have almost not extra lines in it and they look great. It feels a bit unnecessary. I’ll wait to see it in motion before I judge it further.

I think any time you see a still photo of a movie costume, you're missing most of the point. Movie costumes are designed to be seen in motion, not in still shots. So I'm going to reserve judgment. I don't love it, but I don't feel like I've actually seen it properly. It does look thick and baggy. But I think, like with The Batman suit, they're going for a proper superhero silhouette, with extra-wide shoulders. The collar too, like with Pattinson's suit, eliminates the skinny neck effect. The superhero silhouette is for the neck to be the same thickness of the head. This goes all the way back to Curt Swan's definitive Superman look. I find the tendency to add busy lines to modern superhero costumes a bit annoying, but I think there's a pretty clear purpose. In comics, musculature can be clearly delineated through feathering and crosshatching. That allows the muscles to pop. But in photography, a real human with a leotard over their muscles tends to lose most definition. Chris Reeve bulked up for the role, but ultimately, the spandex costume smoothed out all that work he did. These lines, and the textures of the material, creates contours that let us see the shape of muscles more clearly, in exactly the same way that crosshatching does in comics. I think, as you point out, the color of his knees and boots is going to be the color of the suit. I think Superman's suit took a huge hit in the right shoulder. It looks like explosion damage. Overall, I don't hate it, and I still trust this will be a fun movie. Which would be a nice change for Superman.

I really like it! Love the cape, symbol, boots and trunks as well as the colour of the suit. I'm cautiously optimistic about the lines on the suit I just hope they aren't too noticeable while in movement. Over-all I love it

I have high hopes about this movie and even though I'm not crazy about this costume, I must say that it looks good. The picture itself gives me the vibe that he literally just finished putting a big bad away, arrives home and starts to take off his boot when suddenly war world appears and starts blasting Metropolis..Then he slowly slips his boot back on, that's the vibe I get from this photo. Hope it's awesome.

@@EobardFerguson that’s assuming the suit is Kryptonian and not made by Martha. Which it is in most cannons. but of course, I see your point. I just think Superman would know by the time he hits like 25 that his skin is boarder-line invulnerable and he doesn’t need pads so he would probably make a more simple suit being that he doesn’t really need to be protected.

@@EobardFerguson but of course, yeah if his parents sent him with a super suit, then it would be anything Kryptonians would find protective and at that point I don’t really have a problem. I would just hope that Clark would realize that the suit would probably even slow him down maybe a bit too much and want to change it out for something sleeker and less tactical. (obviously I’m trying to get as close to the justice league animated series suit as possible.)

@@EobardFerguson sure but it’s not the databanks of memory his father cached for him in case of their untimely demise mean anything, or the holograms of loving life lessons His parents gave him or any of the other numerous things of memorabilia from krypton. (I’m being sarcastic ) it’s all of that! But most importantly, It’s himself! it’s literally who he is is what makes him connected to his home planet and his people, it’s much more than just the suit, just like he says the suit is just a symbol.

I'd prefer a more open neck collar, but I'm alright with this. That said, I'm glad it is not another suit with fake muscle definition. Having the trunks back also helps the suit not look like a giant sea of blue. This outfit reminds me of late 19th and early 20th-century carnival wrestlers, who's outfits were the inspiration for the original Superman suit.
