the fact this is based on true events of James Phipps makes this story even better. James died at the age of 65 and the dr gave him his cottage. which is now a museum

Omeleto doesn’t always showcase perfection, but it does often feature real gems and this film is one of those. Perfection in the arts is too subjective, but I think it would be safe to say that “James” has joined the ranks of the best Omeleto films. I always try to offer a comprehensive evaluation of the films I watch and I do tend to be quite critical, in a constructive way. With this film, however, I just couldn’t find any weaknesses in the storytelling, direction, acting (Jack Hollington did a great job), cinematography, music or editing. A big thumbs up to all who participated in this project! Hope to see more from you ladies and gents.

I'm so old I actually have a vaccination scar on my left upper arm. From when I was a young child back in the early 1960s. From smallpox vaccine. My brother who was 3 years younger than me wasn't allowed to get it because I had eczema and we were afraid that it would get into my broken, weeping skin. I just can't believe that NOW we have people who are refusing to get their children vaccinated for reasons and we're seeing new epidemics of thing like measles breaking out once again! Heartbreaking!

Phenomenal acting especially for such a young child. Touching and deeply inspiring. Both father and doctor are caught on the horns of a dilemma. I hope that James realized that his bravery in the face of mortal terror eventually saved countless numbers of lives worldwide. Please give us many more movies about key moments and milestones in science, especially medicine. Many, many thanks.

Fantastic film. I love stories based on real life. You can read about this sort of thing in books but seeing the film really beings to life the emotions and dilemmas of a young boy (and his father) who grapple with a decision that in the end has benefitted millions of us. Bravo to the film-makers. Would like to watch more movies like this!

I understand both sides: -We have little James, who's very afraid. He doesn't want to be the next one. -And then we have the doctor, who's trying to save people, with the methods that it was known back then. I was just watching a video about this doctor. Medicine was improving back on the days.

Yes, the ethics greatly concerned me. That the doctor may not have been aware of James having a baby sibling when infecting him with cow pox. That the doctor was so cavalier about the risk James was taking and insulted him when James was resistant. That there was a quid pro quo coercion - economic hardship (ie. risk of starvation) due to withdrawal of job offer if James was unwilling.

Captivating script, performance and educational message. I really enjoyed watching this, especially the end caption 13:40 that had a powerful effect on me. I was given the smallpox vaccine in the late 1960's - it made me contemplate the dreadful risks that have been taken for our benefit.

The boy was very brave to be the test subject and we have to give recognition to the father too for allowing this to happen. He had already lost a son to small pox and to know his other son was being given the disease even though he was told he would be protected. He took a brave chance on that. Who would have thought at that time that a cure was there and to believe the person who said it. What a Great Film and all of the Actors were Fantastic. 🎬🎬🎬👏👏👏❤❤❤
