These two were close friends. As a matter of fact, James was the one who convinced Carole to start performing her own songs. The result was one of the greatest selling albums of all time, TAPESTRY. I hope you explore it some time. "It's Too Late" is one of the greatest breakup songs of all time, without really being sad.

Sch beautiful lcyrics and melody. James and Carol are friends to this day and have and still perform together so this was a lifelong pledge and they still "Got A Friend".

Ok, you need to understand, probably due to the fact that Carole was there with him, he sang it HER way. This is a bit different from his studio version, which is much better, in my opinion. I strongly urge you to listen to his original version ... it's one of my favorites and I think it may be one of yours too. Love you two ... too 😊😍👍!!!

When this song came out in 1971, I was 17-year-old junior in High school. Carol King who wrote this song and Jame Taylor her great friend would take this song to the top of the charts in 1971. Now I am a 70-year-old senior citizen enjoying the reactions by this lovely couple of a song done (53) years ago. The great Carol King also featured this song on her greatest album "Tapestry (1971)" with her beloved pet cat on the album photo. Florida USA🥰🥰

Like you mentioned, James and Carole are long-time friends. James' first big hit was Fire and Rain, it includes the line "There were lonely times when I could not find a friend." Carole came out with this song in response. It's really special to see them performing it together. I performed it with my family in church with a slideshow of paintings of Jesus. I know it wasn't intended to be a religious song, but I can still imagine this being a message from Jesus to all of us.

The first gift my husband gave me was a music box that played this tune. The music box didn't make it through our 34 years but I've never had a better friend in my life! Thank you for bringing this memory to mind! ❤😊

Beautiful song and reaction. Hard not to smile hearing James sing this - his voice brings a warmth to the lyrics. Carole's version is worth listening to as well.

Carole King's TAPESTRY should be on every Top 10 Albums of All-Time. Such a seminal album and, at the time, the session musicians she used would spend the next 30+ years playing with some of the biggest names in the industry. These session players would be famous mostly among each other and top artists... the general public didn't know them until they read liner-notes.

Have you heard your local musicians perform this in your language? Translated? I'm curious about the invasion of English, and wonder how important Music is to the language's continuing spread.

There are some wonderful renditions of this song. I'd thoroughly recommend "Carole King - You've Got a Friend (from Welcome To My Living Room)" (available on Carole's channel). James was (as always) in fine voice in "James Taylor - You've Got A Friend (One Man Band, July 2007)" (available on James' channel). 😊

My son always cared so much about his friends and would do whatever he could to help them so it broke my heart that when he was at his lowest point before his death all but 2-3 of his friends circle abandoned him and only those true friends were there. I still thank God for them and we played this at Daniel’s funeral because he always loved his friends and tried to be a good friend in return.

At the time Carole wrote this, she had primarily been a composer and had worked with other lyricists. This was one of her first major efforts as a lyricist. She has said the lyrics just sort of came through her from some unknown place. "I'll be the first to say it's a great song because I kind of feel like I didn't write it." James, meanwhile, has called it "maybe the best pop song ever written." There's a great video of them singing it together about 40 years after this, with the same musicians, from the Troubadour club in Los Angeles.

You can't help singing along once you learn the song. Carole and James are great together. The young man on bass is the legendary Leland Sklar, who may have played bass on more studio recordings than any other bassist. You've done many reactions to music he played on. He is still playing at 77 and in a band. ☮❤🎸

Absolutely love those 2 singers, absolutely beautiful music, they both have superb writing skills. You will definitely have to go down this rabbit hole for both of them, you certainly won't be disappointed.
