This is one of my favorite songs. The other one is "I'm easy like Sunday morning by Lionel Richie. When I say "easy" I mean mellow. I was raised in the 70s and I was surrounded by mellow, peaceful music. My father moved next door so even if my parents were separated I was able to see my Dad every day. I was happy. My brothers from my Dad's first marriage said I was the peace maker because I was my mother's and father's go-between. Later when Dad came to live with me my mom would bring me a meal for him to help me out. As my mom was walking up to my house, my Dad saw her walking up, he said "She's a good girl." When I was a teenager I asked my Dad why he hated my mom, he said, " I don't hate your mom, how could I have you beautiful children without her." That was very healing for me.

This song came out in 1977. My high school sweetheart and I were engaged to get married. We never had any problems until then. We started having problems and he started getting doubts about marriage. I was heartbroken because we had wanted to be married since HS. This was the perfect song for me. My heart was broken. He got over his doubts and we’ve been happily married 40 something years.

Had forgotten all about this song, hadn’t heard it in years, until I watched an episode of the 70s comedy What’s Happening and Dwayne was singing this song. All of a sudden it came rushing back and I even remembered it was a James Taylor song so here I am! I’ve always liked this one so no idea how I could forget it and leave it behind in my past. All I can say is that time is a nasty thief that eventually robs us of everything. 😞

I've always loved all of James Taylor's song. This is my most favorite 1 though, & that's because my father would always sing this 1 to both my Mom & I all of the time. He'd play his 8 track tape version of James Taylor's JT album, which I was lucky enough to find on cd years later. It was the 1st album from him that I ever listened to & that's why this has always been my most favorite o e of his too. 1st favorites are the most special I find because they've been your favorite the longest. Thank you, James, for this song that will forever remind me of my Dad the most. I call it,, my Dad & I"s song. A lifelong fan of yours always from Iroquois Falls, Ontario. :)

Been listening to this man for 53 years. Used to sing Sweet Baby James as I rocked my children to sleep. One Saturday night they were being naughty and rowdy, wouldn't go to sleep. Even after threatening to come in there I could hear them giggling. Mr. Taylor came on SNL and sang a tune. I noticed things were awfully quiet and peeked in the bedroom. Sound asleep. Thank you, sir for that wonderful memory.

The guy is a rare DNA. I remember i was just a kid in the early 70's. He presented his live performance song with a reel tape recoder (Akai brand i think), and he sang with his own playback creating harmonies & AD libs. It was so impressive and that served as one of my foundation in doing harmonies from thereon. Very cool dude! His collaboration with JD Souther was a classic: Her Town.
@1JUSTPASSINGTHROUGH9 ай бұрын
J D Souther is from my town (Amarillo, TEXAS). A good buddy of an old boyfriend. He used to come to town pretty often. He was dating Linda Ronstadt then. She would come with him sometimes. AND- best of all- this was when the Eagles were getting started. They stopped in a couple of times on their way to another concert. That was SOOO awesome because they all sat around and sang. BTW we called him David.

On my way to a party on 17 Mile Drive in Cali. Heard this on the radio. A defining moment that has lasted in my memory 47 years later.

One of the best remakes I’ve ever heard. James slows it down so much. Result: masterpiece.

😮 I was all set to debate you, but looked it up first. I guess that disqualifies James for the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame 😆

David Lynch did not send me here. I just found a bunch of old tapes, and my dad recorded this song off the radio in Orange County when he used to travel. I haven't heard this song since I was a pup. Great song!
