Arnold McCullers with the solo. James Taylor is a brilliant singer songwriter with a deep catalog of music! The live performances are so intimate, no matter the size of the venue! James, the band and the audience interact with each other to lend a collective family feeling to the concerts.

James Taylor is one of the best muscians of all time. Just seen him play live at 74 and he's still the energy of a man in his 20s. I highly recommend listen to his catalog of music.

James Taylor's voice is like a warm hug! The Chicks did a great cover of this at a tribute concert for James. The featured background singer in this sang background in that as well. Natalie Maines matched that background singer beautifully! The Chicks also sang this with James when they did Crossroads on CMT. A great concert!

"Shower the People" dropped in 1976, but for some reason my strongest memories of it are from the eighties. Perhaps that's just when I first noticed it. Taylor's other seventies hits -- "You've Got A Friend", "Fire and Rain", "Carolina In My Mind", "Mexico", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" -- were easy listening staples that defined the era. The backing singer who took the song to church is Arnold McCuller. He worked with Taylor for decades. James Taylor provided backing vocals alongside Linda Ronstadt on the Neil Young classics "Heart of Gold" and "Old Man".

This is a wonderful song! From the first note to the last! Deep and truly meaningful, it is a song of affirmation! Not every song is a dance number. Love to you!

Do yourself a favor and watch the entire concert. I'm a lifelong working musician. I'm also, I guess a musical snob. I seek the masters. For me, this particular concert live from the Beacon theater is the most powerful show I've ever witnessed. James doesn't just do ballads. His rock and blues offerings are special stuff. I've never seen a show where audience members are laughing at one moment, crying in another and dancing in the isles at times. This guy touched a few generations. And his choice of musicians and his arrangements are top shelf.

***JAMES TAYLOR TRIVIA TIME!!*** ....shower ON, James, shower ON.... ....I had a feeling James would have to take some time to warm up to Empress; James is a Singer / Songwriter- Soft Rock LEGEND, creating classic tune after classic tune; this performance was from the 1998 Beacon Theatre appearance, in support of his Grammy-winning 1997 'comeback' Album, the FABULOUS "Hourglass"..... - ...this was his 1976 tune from his "In The Pocket" Album; It peaked at #22 Pop / #1 AC; He was married to the leggy Carly Simon then, but they divorced, and he wants NUTHIN' to do with her, even though they have Children together!!! - ...James is a MOOOOOOODY cat, but (ironically) he makes THE most mellow tunes; He's One of the (low-key) Godfathers of "Yacht Rock", that Hall + Oates, Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Robbie Dupree, and many others who made the 70's LEGENDARY.... - ....Dance Diva Kristine W.did a cover of "Shower..." on her 2001 CD, "Stronger", after her Parents passed....

This for me is a great example of why your preference of hearing the recording before the live performance is the right choice. While I'm not a massive fan, I can appreciate the original, and I know James Taylor is well out of prime voice here. BTW James is one of the most oft speculated but not proven subject speculations for Carly Simon's You're So Vain.
@EmpressReacts2 жыл бұрын
THIS GUY!!! THE SUBJECT OF YOU'RE SO VAIN😂😂
@mikecaetano2 жыл бұрын
Simon says the second verse of that song is about Warren Beatty.
@derikcowan2 жыл бұрын
Carly has said that there are 3 guys who inspired You're so Vain, and Warren Beatty is the one she has named. James Taylor would probably be the 1st verse inspiration at the time if he was one of the subjects as their families both had summer homes in the same beach town as kids, and in 1972 Carly and James got married, which would make that particular verse a tad tongue and cheek at the time.
@lamusiclover2264 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. I think he is a very fine voice here. I've seen him live many times, and he is always as good or better than the record. Only now that he is in his 70's is his voice getting a bit shaky, but he can still do it well.
