OMG I instantly ran to inspect my patriciae like mad after a couple minutes into your video! haha but yeah, I wish I had gotten into aroids a bit earlier (maybe the same time as you did) because some of my wishlist ones are so unattainably expensive now!

Lovely plants James, I just wish that you guys in colder climates could experience the true majesty of seeing these things grow outside to their full potential, like here in the West Indies, love your Tshirt by the way.

I like both the large velvet ones, and the long narrow ones.. I have, what I think, is a red emerald. I bought it on sale many many years ago, gifted it to my mom, and I have taken cuttings home now.

When air layering the arial roots, how do you water it? Do you remove the bag at water it when its dry or do you spray the holes?

Omg..James...Thank YOU...you always have such beautiful plants. I have a question...do you prefer spaghnum moss or pon for your plants?
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
ohh it's a tough one - both are really great for propagation in my opinion, but I think I would rather grow something long term in pon rather than sphagnum just because it won't break down over time etc! 🌱🌱

James, what did you use to treat the thrips? I suspect I have some on my monstera but like you, can only see the damage and no pests.
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
if you're based in the UK or maybe even EU I'd recommend provanto if you're really struggling with them! If you're somewhere else try an indoor safe systemic and it should do the trick! Good luck 🌱🌱

I love your collection! How did you treat the thrips that you got on your patriciae?
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
I used a systemic and then provanto to finish them off! I now have beneficial bugs in the growtent but if that came back I'd do the same - it worked super well! 🌱🌱

Hi James. Greetings from Singapore! Just wondering if the hybrid philodendrons are less finicky compared to their species counterparts? Thinking of getting a P. splendid.
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
Yes they definitely are in my experience! hybrid vigour 🙌😍

P. patriciae has been my "quasi holy grail" for a few years now (those looong, ruffly leaves...), but I have to admit I was quite surprised by the A. pallidiflorum you showed us last week. Most specimens I had seen look unappealing and I have always thought of it as a scraggly plant, but yours is stunning to the point that makes me wonder if it can be an alternative to the elusive patriciae... Would you honestly say that getting a pallidiflorum to that stage would be achievable without grow tents or do you believe that the genetics of your particular plant played an important role?
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
I certainly think it's possible! mine has only put out one leaf so far in the growtent so all of the others were grown under general home conditions! I think its really important to be on top of the watering whilst also allowing it a decent dry period between - in my experience that seems to encourage more growth, but of course only for a plant with healthy established roots. The plant i got looked a bit battered when I got it but so long as you provide space and bright light it should thrive! 🤞🤞 hope that helps!!
