All Woo, all the time for me. My most listened to artist in 2023, well top 3 for sure. I'd say most of their records are worth having. I now have them all which may have been too-far but I can't get enough of them. It just slots in to so many places. I do agree that Penguin Cafe is the closest comparison though there's no one else quite like them. I just love those 2 dudes. And ya, Windy & Carl is another most played artist for last year. Stunning landscapes. That Arawak reish has gotten pricey but what a cover. Writing down Penza Penza to check out.

Gianni Brezzo - Tutto Passa was my best find and most listened album of last year, he knows his roots. Good pick.

Very nice mate, thanks a bunch and happy New Year. I like the Woo stuff, which is new to me. Don got me into Windy&Carl as well and I was really lucky to get many of their cd albums for cheap off the Dutch online second hand market place. Hence caught up. The seller got/convinced me into stuff like Pelt, Grouper and Richard Skelton as well; and more avant-garde. It must be great living so close to Flying Nun territory. I hope to go down there or Dunedin soon on a pelgrimage, long overdue. Maybe we can meet for a coffee 😃

not deeply familiar with the jakarta label but scrolling through their catalogue on discogs brought up quite a few names i've at least heard of and they defo seem to have somewhat of an overall hiphop infused vibe. i might own jakarta 020 because it has the german singer ira atari on it which was originally associated with the hamburg based audiolith label which i've been working with and for for a brief period in the late 00s - and i've met ira on several occasions. another familiar name on the label is farhot, a hamburg based hiphop producer who used to have his studio in the same building we - that's myself and donna maya - had our label office in when we were running the rudel records label as a joint venture project. so we've bumped into each other every now and then, exchanging some words but never built a deeper connection of sorts.

Ps you may like Helvetia’s (Jason Albertini -from Duster - and co) work as well, although you have to go through their prolific work to get to the gems🌟

I have a musical discovery of note approximately once every decade. Woo’s ‘Into The Heart of Love’ was the discovery of the end of the 2000s. Incidentally the next one was Jessica Pratt’s ‘Quiet Signs’ (hint hint). NB: The remastered repress of ‘Into The Heart of Love’ from this year is not as magical as the 2014 pressing. That older pressing is cut from what sounds like a Compact Cassette, and it really adds the perfect lo-fi ambience.
