I love it always up for a challenge. I'm a traditional urban sketch art guy I don't really do scenery well however learning from you had been an honor! Best thing is you use just the airbrush and your sheer will to do stuff 😂. No random paid brush set!
@user-sb3wh3dd4v2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the highest compliment I can render is this: Although I am absolutely a novice to digital painting, as an experienced artist I understood the reasoning behind all you design choices. That includes color harmony, composition, layering... everything. It's exactly how traditional painters think. Throughout it all, I understood all the controls and tools you used. Your voice is relaxing. You speak in whole sentences without ums and uhs. The very light music is so soft, it's almost subliminal and therefore not distracting or annoying as in so many other videos. I just got my ipad booted up today. After seeing several of your videos, I subscribed and will watch more. THANK YOU!
@JamesJulier-Artist2 жыл бұрын
Thank you that means a lot! I’m more of a traditional painter at heart and I’m glad that I did my learning in traditional mediums first. Very glad you find the style and approach helpful 😊

@@JamesJulier-Artist Well, your training and experience show! Also, I can explain the tilted reflections of sunlight in the sand you mentioned. Because angle of incidence equals angle of reflection, the sunlight must angle down slightly because the sandy beach angles up slightly. Hope that helps in future videos!
@karensteinhaus4095 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, G - your reply just sent me off on a google journey to learn about angles of incidence. Honestly, I’d never heard of such a thing but I love reading about it. I know light travels in a straight line and that reflections pretty much do, as well, but doing a deeper dive is going to be quite enjoyable. Thanks for prodding the inquiry!

While I watch you paint I am so lost and even after you moved on it takes my mind quite a bit of time to put together what I am looking at. It really makes my read the painting and use my own imagination to understand it. Never had an artist do that for me. Now at the end of the video I’m just in awe of everything. Those ‘little blobs’ really come together and make sense and its a dang masterpiece. 😮

When you talk about pausing, I'll add this. I usually watch the entire video all the way through once, and then paint along on the second watch, pausing as needed. Of course, that leaves me with several paintings in various stages of completion, so I'm not entirely sure I can recommend this method...

Well it’s whatever system works best, but I realise it’s a bit fast 😊

Thanks James for yet another amazing tutorial. I have been following you for a while now. One thing I don't understand is your color palette. How do you come up with the palette before you start a painting (or do you)? I don't see other people's tutorial doing it, ever.

I just finished a great art tutorial however, if anyone is having issues with the wave texture and is not awesome level talented. I did some experimenting and felt the groovy brush in procreate could be used with low opacity and 5-6% ish size to get the texture of waves using different colours for froth/wave. Spent freaking 3.5hrs doing this painting XD.

Is it best to work from light to dark like you would in a painting ?
@JamesJulier-Artist2 жыл бұрын
I usually start with light colours yes, but that’s probably because I always used acrylic paint in the past and it’s different to get back to white once you have gone dark. So it’s ingrained in me I think

You're a bit like Bob Ross with digital Painting. I love it. ☺️ You make it seems so easy. One question is coming up for me though.. More on a technical problem on my side: You never seem to have problems with your Ipad doing.. Stuff... When putting your palm down on the glass. I'm also on Ipad pro (2020) and my pad undos or reorientates the page almost every second time I put my hand down. Half a second later my pencil touches too and I cannot get my previous line back. It's usually not much undone but it's so irritating. Even more anoying when it just flips the page back straight and to full screen... Do you have some "special method" of touchdown or tip, why my thingy does that and how I could teach it not to do it anymore? Thanks. 😊

Thanks Chris, I give 99% of my content away free on KZbin to be fair, the main difference is the procreate and PSD files atm.
