Many thanks, James. 'Elysian Fields', a remarkable piece, played in G minor, was composed by Shaye Cohn in 2018. It is indeed on the band's 2022 Album 'Magnolia Stroll'. 00:50 : Theme A 16 bars, stated by Shaye 01:24 : Theme B - *very unusually NINE bars* (nearly all of our music comes in multiples of four bars) 01:43 : Theme A again - played by Craig 02:16 : Theme B again - played by Barnabus (sure enough, NINE bars) 02:35 : Theme C (very similar to Theme A, but with *SEVENTEEN* bars) 03:11 : Theme A again, with Max leading the first eight bars (usually played by Todd when he is present) and also Max the second eight (which he usually takes on guitar) 03:45 : Theme B, *but this time played without the ninth bar* 04:02 : Theme B, again just eight bars, and with a rallentando to end the piece When Shaye puts together some deceptively simple, haunting ostinatos, luxuriating in the key of G minor, the result is magical. It sounds as though she was inspired by lofty thoughts of the Elysian Fields of Greek Mythology - the Greeks' idea of heaven; or maybe she was thinking of the more mundane Elysian Fields Avenue, which can be found only 80 yards from the d.b.a. - or maybe both! What a curious piece this composition is! We usually think of our music coming in multiples of 4 bars (e.g. 8 bar sections, 16-bar themes, 12-bar blues, 32-bar complete choruses); but 'Elysian Fields' does not conform: those sections in nine bars and seventeen bars sound as though an extra 'pause' bar has been added to the more conventional 8-bar and 16-bar patterns.

There is also a third option... . Perhaps it is about les Champs Élysées in Paris? Reportedly, the composition was written after returning from performances in France. But that's what Shaye herself knows.
@PopsCoffee2 жыл бұрын
@@misfozje3434 Agreed, it's possible, though in France Tuba Skinny operated mainly at Châteauneuf-du-Faou, which is about 550 kilometres west of the Champs Élysées, so it couldn't have been an immediate inspiration. Maybe the inscrutable Miss Cohn will one day reveal what the inspiration was; and at the same time tell us which Nigel had the Dream, which Pyramid the Strut was dedicated to (Westen Borghesi jokingly explained it was one of the Great Pyramids of Australia!) and which Salamanca received the tribute of 'Salamanca Blues' (my theory for that one is that it referred to the Salamanca Street Market in Hobart, Tasmania, which they visited).

Thank you for your reply. I agree that the genesis of musical titles - especially instrumental ones - is impossible to guess. It probably even happens that the author himself does not know where the name came from. I wrote this because at one time there was a heated discussion on FB regarding "Elysian Fields"

@@PopsCoffee I'm going with your theory on Elysian Fields Avenue. "They told me to take a street-car named Desire, and transfer to one called Cemeteries, and ride six blocks and get off at-Elysian Fields!"

Many thanks for sharing here. "Elysian Fields" has a wonderful melody. They didn't play it so often. So I am very happy. Great solo by Craig. He played the same themes always a bit more different. I admire his never ending creative kind of playing. Lovely Regards Dave from Berlin Germany 👋

I got an idea, Shaye is going to have to eventually change the pads on the coronet spit valves. She should donate them to science so they can retrieve her DNA and clone her so that there will Shayes in the future for the world to enjoy ( and then I will become a mormon and marry about 10 of them; if my current wives and G/F's let me) ;)

@@brendamello2202 No, it would be a romantic comedy. I will first take her out to a great dinner at a New Orleans Mcdonalds for some cajon mudbugs, filee gumbo, kudzoo, poke salad, possum steaks, pole cat stew and sum Frays wit dat. Then after I sleep with 10 other hotties in the hot tub, I will give her the final rose, cuz it was her I really loved all along. I love how Shaye is so bossy, she tells the others "it's time for you to play your solo or else" then rapuzzi performs and Erika make all the guys horney, and if they refuse it can get ugly pretty fast. I love Shayes bedroom eyes, and brillo pad hair, She is beautiful in all respects and the greatest musician of all time.
