On Purim we read the Megillah of Esther. We also drink wine to the point we cannot distinguish between "blessed is Mordechai" and "cursed is Hamman." Thus it is fitting that the fragment from the book of Esther had wine spilled all over it. Evidently the Essenes really got into the spirit of Purim.

I, accidentally, found you on Utube and have been fascinated with your knowledge and presentations. I’m a 73 year old Jewish man who is probably defined as almost agnostic but the feelings of the Judeo Christian are so strong in my life. I find you to be very moving and inspiring. Hello Stephan, I am curious to hear more about what you are saying here. What exactly do you mean that the Judeo Christian feelings are so strong in your life? And what are you getting from this video. I am so shaken by all the searching I have done and have only today come to this video. I am not sure what he is teaching and what I am to believe anymore. I was raised in a conservative Christian church and walked away from it a few years ago when they couldn't give me real answers to my questions. I do know that I miss believing in Jesus. I wanted him to be real but now I am just not sure. I would appreciate your elaboration on what you know or have learned?

The search for Truth is a lifelong pursuit, and there are many serpents trying to deceive you all along the Way. Jesus was Jewish too. His disciples were Jewish. God intended for His chosen people to bring Christ's Kingdom on earth, by teaching the Gospel to the whole world. That's how the Jews were intended to make the world a better place. It was by producing the Messiah, and spreading His divine Word. There's still plenty of work to do for Christ Jesus.

Thank you for this scholarly presentation. The stimulus for getting my Bachelor's degree in Comparative Religion from a secular university was because of my quest to learn as much as I could about the Bible, Christianity, and Judaism from an academic perspective rather than simply push the "I believe" button to accommodate a certain theology. I questioned how so many clergies from different denominations and even different churches within those denominations could have such a widely divergent theology when all claim to have the Bible as the foundation of their belief system. My answer came of course in seeing the Bible as a collection of texts written by ancient Jews for ancient Jews and not for modern Christians with little or no critical understanding of the Bible's origins, linguistics, and social and historical context. Professor Tabor, you do a great service to us all with your excellent presentation. I only regret that I did not find your channel sooner.

Why isn’t “woman” above all as the “One” since the Greeks consulted the priestesses of Apollo as they received the information from the Gods to give to anyone that required advice from Zeus . Women have never been allowed equality of thoughts, power or leadership except during Greek civilization that women should always ask this question from the moment born.

Dead sea scrolls give us a window on qumranian essenes, and we might be able to extrapolate something about the galillean essenes. It's not crazy to think they had plenty influence on the formation of early christianity. Many people will be surprised at how fluid the theology has been over time though. Yah, a discarded newspaper section may be a snapshot of a specific point in time, but if the context is lost over time it is relegated to curiosities and mysteries until enough accumulate. Then, scholarly research can hopefully say they were newspaper clips and this is the date. Personally I believe what relegates ancient writings to a category of 'sacred or Holy' would be in preserving the sense of tomorrow will come and it will be better, so that people can hang in there in bad times.

@@ddp8972 The Bible which is the Word of God was revealed to His prophets of old, I would say going back 4000 years. Since then His Word has been continually revealed to His chosen ones. Over the years scribes have recorded and very carefully maintained them with the highest care. God always had a remnant who kept His Word though traditions and laws and storytelling. We are confident that what we read today, which are translations, is a reliable source for our faith, because the scriptural manuscripts have been analyzed, researched, compared with other historical documents and traditions etc The translations are true copies of the manuscripts they are based on. Between manuscripts itself there is little variation that affect core beliefs and doctrines, considering the 4000 year spread. Christian's are also open to discussions and are honest enough to identify discrepancies in translations if any. We know this is not mans word because of the prophesies that were fulfilled and God will preserve His Word for all generations.

John the immerser was 6 months older than Yeshua. When Herod gave the decree to kill all the boys 2 years old and under, John would have been under that decree. Yah had already warned Joseph to take Yeshua and flee to Egypt. John was most likely hidden in Qumran, in the wilderness. Yeshua talks about Zechariah being killed at the temple altar. Josephus also mentioned the priest who was killed because he would not give up his son. People knew John had a miraculous birth, Zechariah could not speak until John was named. They probably figured John was the child they were looking for. They killed Zechariah, John's father. Most likely they did the same with Elizabeth as his mother was not mentioned again. John remained in Qumran and that is most likely where he came from in the wilderness.

Since clearly the NT seems to have a pacifist view towards iniquity compared , which one can get the view it is Romes adoption of the "Sons of Light" views ... but flipped. Or maybe just what people then came up with , because being angry and exclusionary with Rome and it's rule was to exhausting and ultimately proved fatal . So I guess a concept of ... If you can't beat them , then join them ... which did lead to christian concepts then taking over. Albeit with the conundrum of ... is it still pure , and how much does that purity really matter ? With some Hebrew and almost no Aramaic like the new theory. And the pre Babylonian Talmud text was a Hebrew Masoretic that contained basically the Septuagint additional readings? With the current Orthodox Jewish Masoretic text conspiratorially modified from the Septuagint readings after Titus and Bar Kobcha as the new theory states.

I was enthralled when I discovered at about age 18 the scrolls were found, and I latched on to them as soon as they were successfully translated. Now at 75 years of age I'm still excited about all archaeological discoveries, and I honestly believe the Essenes were sent by Almighty God to be there for the Advent of Jesus of Nazareth, and they mysteriously "Disappeared" after His Divine Holy Appointment. You know when this happens, it’s not GOD who is the one who failed… I really try to not be actively mean or rude. But it is a particular trigger for me to hear such rubbish. Even if God exists, he need not behave like a human to favour believers and show displeasure over non believers, regardless of their righteousness. Can a good CEO be displeased with you and disregard your talents just because you do not know his name? If God only favour believers regardless of their righteousness, then he needs to have an egoistic and nepotic character like worldly tyrants and corrupt politicians. The idea that one can go heaven without cultivating himself to higher spiritual standard is as silly as cramming unrefined squatters into premium residential estate and still expect it to remain a premium property. Anyone claiming their religion is the only true religion needs to first prove that only their believers were continuously blessed by God since antiquity. Cheers. Modern research on Near Death Experience by Raymond moody, reincarnation memories by Ian Stevenson/Jim trucker and past lives regression by Brian Weiss all independently but coincidentally show that our consciousness survive death, we live many lives and our thoughts and actions matter in the hereafter. So be kind and helpful to others, be virtuous, meditate and cultivate ourselves to higher spiritual levels. Cheers.

June 30, 1604, King James had approved a list of 54 revisers, although extant records show that 47 scholars actually participated. They were organized into six companies, two each working separately at Westminster, Oxford, and Cambridge on sections of the Bible assigned to them. The Bible was finally published in 1611. The Dead Sea Scrolls sat, undisturbed until discovered.

I suppose the original text, compiled in 382 in Rome, is...invalid? Even though for 12 centuries that was The Bible? The KJV is just another translation. There are numerous problems with it ( such as translating 'I am A Son of God' as 'I am THE Son of God' Matthew 27:43) and although for some reason millions think the English translation in 1611 is somehow "authorized", it is anything but.

This makes sense the Saul / Paul saw Christianity as another dead Messiah cult and went after the church. This is why Paul made such a huge impact as he was a skeptics of Christianity until he said he meet the risen Christ. Paul said what he did he did out of ignorance believing he was doing God's will. Different God for different situations. Pagan Religions had several god’s they expect to save them from various types of problems. And I relate to you what i read in HEBREW, and you said "I think you haven' read the essence of his message in TRANSLATION...."I wrote down 3 words, one is a 2 letter word in Hebrew that is in 6700 VERSES, one a 3 letter word found in many verses...okay: the word is אמת , which is always MIStranslated to be the word "Truth"...but that is the simple meaning. The first letter of "EMeT" (truth) is the first leter of the first ever Aleph-Bet (Hebrew) It is the language that G-d used to CREATE the Universes. The middle letter is the MIDDLE of the Aleph bet and the last letter is the LAST letter in the hebrew Aleph Bet....now, does that detract from the word "truth"? Of course, look up how many OTHER English words are there for "Truth". Worse: today people say "Well this is MY Truth". How can their be a "My" truth. True is true and in Hebrew there is ONE word. The Infinite NAME of G-d (HE revealled it) is 4 letters. Each letter stands for a word written by each letter. YWEH means "{G-D} Always was, {G-d} Always IS, and {G-d} Always Will Be, but in Holy Hebrew (G-d's Building Bl ocks of truth) It has deeper conotations, we understand the CREATION from that word, we notice how each letter in Hebrew is in DIRECTION, how it is written we see that the first letter is a seminal flash of Infinite Light which comes down into physicality and BROADENS and then the next letter is like a ladder that from the broadening of Creation (The Big Bang) it goes from broadening the cosmos into a downward level further and further until Spirit becomes physical. Motivated by this video I've purchased a copy of the DSS Bible. There is an aspect of the bible that I'm a bit confused about and that's how the words translated to English are shown as fragmented, IE 'fac[e of the dee]p'. Since the language of the fragments is Hebrew, or Aramaic , translation to English is typically done on a 'word by word' basis, or done by phrasing the meaning of passages. This confuses me a little because in the first instance in my sample, 'fac' is considered to be intact, and 'e' is added because it's missing, and also 'dee' is missing, where 'p' is added. I know of no translation to English from any language that is a letter for letter translation, so what am I to understand? That the first three letters of the Hebrew were in tact and the following letter or letters are missing? Not having the DSS in the orignal language as well as not knowing how to read it, I can't really look for myself. If anyone can offer some insight I would appreciate it.

@@ioneltorac I assumed it was due to missing letters in the Aramaic, Hebrew. However how would those missing letters in another language actually equate to showing missing letters in the English translation, and interestingly enough they tend to be at the beginning or end of the English words as I'm reading them? In translation it's never a 'letter by letter' translation of the words, but rather the meaning of the word instead, and as such this brought about my question. It cannot be a precise transition, so my best guess not knowing any different is that it's representative of the original language word having it's beginning or it's end missing so maybe the publishers represented this by clipping off the beginning or end of the English words.

BTW, I too believe that Wikipedia can be an excellent source for much information and in many cases its even "peer reviewed" (of a kind). That the information is at one's fingertips is one of the reasons academia dislikes Wikipedia: they want the students to work at it a little harder (which is appropriate IMO: its school after all). That said, the areas where Wikipedia can become problematic is when the topic is controversial and/or concerning pop culture. Then the information can become suspect, or at least its important to keep this possibility in mind. Unfortunately, the Dead Sea Scrolls can be one of these controversial topics. While I think there can still be found quality in the entries and value in the information on a controversial topic, its pretty easy for things to get twisted and remain that way for a few days, weeks or even months before its addressed. Therefore, - in this case, - I think credible, peer-reviewed, traditional-academic original research is the right way to go for academic purposes. (Note that Wikipedia discourages use of "original research" for good reasons. Its the rest of the description above that can make the knowledge credible and worthwhile.) .
@shannonmcstormy5021
@shannonmcstormy5021 2 жыл бұрын
P.s. One of the ways Wikipedia can prove valuable in regards to academic purposes is when its used as a jumping-off point for a student who is otherwise unfamiliar with the topic. When the article is one of quality, the references are noted at the bottom. Searching these references in Google (especially "Google Scholar"), can eventually lead the student to quality information (credible, peer-reviewed, traditional-academic original research), ie books and articles published in credible, well-regarded Academic Journals. Once done reading all this, a student will be in a far better position to write an informed paper and more importantly, hopefully will have learned something - which is the primary goal for attending school after all :-) .

Wikipedia has become A place to find cliff notes. It'll give you current relevant information but like you said if there's any controversy You have to assume Bias will take the day. The editors of that site are quite Ideological. It's good for a brief overview of a topic and will point you in the right directions to get better information. They control the editing process so tightly, Even authors who have been misquoted can't get correct changes made. It definitely cant be considered a reliable source.

Regarding the Elohim stuff around 40 minutes.. I was reading this at the same time and found it connected An eternal bond has been established for us. Ashshur has established (it) for us, and all the divine beings and the majority of the group of all the holy ones, through the bond of heaven and earth for ever, ...[18] However, Cross (1973, p. 17) translated the text as follows: The Eternal One ('Olam) has made a covenant oath with us, Asherah has made (a pact) with us. And all the sons of El, And the great council of all the Holy Ones. With oaths of Heaven and Ancient Earth. NOTE Asherah, along with Astarte and Anath, was one of the three great goddesses of the Canaanite pantheon. In Canaanite religion her primary role was that of mother goddess. Canaanites associated Asherah with sacred trees, an association also found in the Israelite tradition. Israel’s association of Asherah with sacred trees is repeated over thirty times in the Bible; many of these citations are stereotypically used by the biblical writers to describe sites of idolatrous worship, implying that the worship of Asherah was an apostate behavior in Israel and improper for followers of YHWH. Despite these and other references associating Asherah with apostasy, contemporary discoveries have further indicated that, at least in the opinion of some ancient Israelites, YHWH and Asherah were appropriately worshipped as a pair. This might be more striking for hardcore bible is perfect people Why was Asherah removed from the Bible? Asherah as a tree symbol was even said to have been "chopped down and burned outside the Temple in acts of certain rulers who were trying to 'purify' the cult, and focus on the worship of a single male god, Yahweh," SO it is important to understand that the books of the bible were written as a chronology not at one time.. and that the religion and practices changed so references in older parts of the bible may not corespond to newer parts of the bible including the worship of a pantheon instead of monotheistic god. Deuteronomy 16:21 commands: You shall not plant any tree as a sacred pole [asherah] beside the altar that you make for the Lord your God… And 1 Kings 14:23 states: For they also built for themselves high places, pillars, and sacred poles [asherim] on every high hill and under every green tree… This was however after the Babylonian exile. The ancient Israelites worshipped Canaanite gods because they themselves were actually an offshoot of the coastal Canaanites ... in fact there was quite a mixing of gods and god names worshiping the same protosemetic religion that links with other identities but where language differed worshiped under different words with slight cultural differentiation. Overtime however the way in which God was viewed changed, and was edited and modified to suit the cultural beliefs of the groups that were acculturing that god and their understanding of the language and past cultures meanings. Humans are not beyond time we live in time, and so the development of religion has developed with time for whatever reason. The LXX and the Masoretic texts each present a Patriarchal period from Adam to Abraham that differs by well over one thousand years, with the LXX showing the longer of the two. Does Genesis in the DSS agree with either of them? It is perhaps interesting to note that whenever Jesus quoted the Scriptures, he mostly used the LXX.

While this may sound weird, the Septuagint was the dominant version of the Jewish Bible in circulation in the 1st century. Remember, most literate Jews in this era either lived in the greater Roman Empire (which spoke Greek) or were educated in Greek schools and had Greek names even if they lived in Israel. In fact, the very Sadducees who controlled the Temple and were considered the preeminent teachers of the Bible and many of the Pharisees (like Josephus himself) were either promoting Greek or were primarily speaking Greek themselves. The writers of the gospels were writing to actual Greeks and Hellenized Jews, so of course they would have transcribed Jesus' quotes in the form their audiences would have been familiar with, and that's the Septuagint. Also, the Masoretic text didn't exist yet.

Very interesting stuff! I've done quite a bit of study on the ancient variants and in particular in regard to the calendar variations which were evolving. No doubt between Antiochus Epiphanes attempts to change the Jewish calendar, followed by Julius Caesar also changing the calendar of the Republic from a lunar to a fixed solar calendar (as the first head of the first form of the Dragon-Beast empire) anticipating Jesus' birth (Rev. 12:4-5, 17:10), there seemed to have been many who were trying to find a solution to combine the two incompatible calendar systems. I like Ken Johnson for the dead sea scrolls. Far as John the gospel of the kailedy tells how he was a part of the group but he rebelled against their beliefs of staying away from others. Both groups were wrong in some of their teachings. That is why Jesus even said what one of you won't pull a beast out of a pit, on the Sabbath. And how much better is a man? He knew that law and was showing mercy is the right way. Also people. A few other things I don't like each one of these people who Translate the dead sea scrolls do. Men love to put their opinions in to everything as fact. And in the mouths of others. I say to everyone read many different sources and Translated versions to get the real facts of the writings. Many non believers will twist things like did you know the dead sea scrolls told of the temples destruction before Jesus was born. But they will lie and try to date it later. They always do that just say there is no way that this is true so must be a logical reason it's not. Then make up trash. Like saying certain gospels came from a early manuscript. And it no longer exists. Not only are they stupid but they believe everyone else is too. Bs it's called lying passed off as fact. Don't trust anyone do your own research people titles make people respect people and God says be no a respecter of persons. It's brainwashing. A perfectly smart man and can't be fooled to do stupid things. Will sit there and let a stupid doctor kill them. Why? It's called respecter of persons. Well he's a doctor he knows best. No. Think for yourself people. Like Jesus said call no man master or Father. Stop respecting people on titles they may be very ignorant. Memorizing something is not intelligence. A monkey can do it. Actually grace has been on the table since the beginning before Moses, and correct Christ is the only God we have known. He is the one that gave Moses the law from his father: And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. Genesis 6:7‭-‬8 KJV Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 1 Corinthians 10:1‭, ‬4‭-‬5 KJV But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. John 5:36‭-‬37 KJV Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:5‭-‬8 KJV For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (In the volume of the book it is written of me,) To do thy will, O God. Hebrews 10:4‭-‬7 KJV Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. John 8:56‭-‬58 KJV And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. Exodus 3:14 KJV For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6 KJV Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8 KJV He is the Rock, his work is perfect: For all his ways are judgment: A God of truth and without iniquity, Just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:4 KJV Merriam Webster: grace noun \ ˈgrās \ Definition of grace (Entry 1 of 2) 1a: unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification b: a virtue coming from God c: a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance 2a: APPROVAL, FAVOR stayed in his good graces barchaic : MERCY, PARDON c: a special favor : PRIVILEGE each in his place, by right, not grace, shall rule his heritage - Rudyard Kipling d: disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency e: a temporary exemption : REPRIEVE Peace and Blessings in Jesus Mighty Name 🙌🏿

@@TommyStahr You mean a trinity? The ancient Babylonians recognised the doctrine of a trinity, or three persons in one god-as appears from a composite god. Sumeria "The universe was divided into three regions each of which became the domain of a god. Anu's share was the sky. The earth was given to Enlil. Ea became the ruler of the waters. Together they constituted the triad of the Great Gods" India The three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva [or Shiva], becoming manifest to him, replied, 'Learn, O devotee, that there is no real distinction between us. Egypt "The Hymn to Amun decreed that 'No god came into being before him (Amun)' and that 'All gods are three: Amun, Re and Ptah, and there is no second to them. Hidden is his name as Amon, he is Re in face, and his body is Ptah.' . . . This is a statement of trinity, the three chief gods of Egypt subsumed into one of them, Amon. Many other areas had their own divine trinities. In Greece they were Zeus, Poseidon and Adonis. The Phoenicians worshipped Ulomus, Ulosuros and Eliun. Rome worshipped Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. In Germanic nations they were called Wodan, Thor and Fricco. Regarding the Celts, one source states, "The ancient heathen deities of the pagan Irish[,] Criosan, Biosena, and Seeva, or Sheeva, are doubtless the Creeshna [Krishna], Veeshnu [Vishnu], [or the all-inclusive] Brahma, and Seeva [Shiva], of the Hindoos" (Thomas Maurice, The History of Hindostan, Vol. 2, 1798, p. 171). Christianity picked up on the trinity in the third century after much debate at the council of Nicea. Since people were used to to Trinities is was easier to convert the Roman Empire.

There were two main branches of messianic groups: Hebraic and Hellenistic. Most biblical scholars do not appreciate that Greek sophists migrated, then adopted and altered the Torah message--that's why the Septuagint is important. Urban educated Jews wanted to accept Hellenic civilization. The fundamentalists retreated to refugia, finally infected Jerusalem which was destroyed. The messianic Hellenized Jews won, and the Jesus cult spread from those Greek speaking Jews.

Also: The Masoretes were groups of Jewish scribe-scholars who worked from around the end of the 5th through 10th centuries CE, based primarily in medieval Palestine in the cities of Tiberias and Jerusalem, as well as in Iraq. Each group compiled a system of pronunciation and grammatical guides in the form of diacritical notes on the external form of the biblical text in an attempt to standardize the pronunciation, paragraph and verse divisions, and cantillation of the Hebrew Bible for the worldwide Jewish community. The ben Asher family of Masoretes was largely responsible for the preservation and production of the Masoretic Text, although there existed an alternative Masoretic text of the ben Naphtali Masoretes, which has around 875 differences from the ben Asher text. The halakhic authority Maimonides endorsed the ben Asher as superior, although the Egyptian Jewish scholar, Saadya Gaon al-Fayyumi, had preferred the ben Naphtali system.Wikipedia So basically the Masoretes invented the vowel system in Biblical Hebrew.
