Fighting Shotgun is one of the most useful classed I’ve taken. Thanks Tim

I was dispatched to a guy that took a load of birdshot to the chest once. At the hospital, he was so un-harmed that when the doctor told him he had a bb in his intestines that would have to be surgically removed, he asked if he could just wait and shit the bb out. Use buck or slugs my friends.

Go watch Garand Thumb's shotgun tests. Birdshot will DESTROY a skull at 7 yards. getting shot with birdshot is no joke. That fellow either got lucky, or was lying his ass off.

Range matters. Which is why some people suggest bird shot. It limits over penetration.

Spot on about birdshot. It’s for birds. suspects coming into your home knowing you are there are bad bad guys and are probably under the influence of something. They deserve the proper greeting and that is 00

Adding I’ve seen footage of a subject guy shot with birdshot he was on the ground but totally conscious and more than able to fire a weapon and attack.
@toddk13772 жыл бұрын
@@unclegene5372 I agree. 00 or #4 buck both will make a threat take the room temperature challenge. Birdshot is always an excuse for fear of over penetration through walls and such. They need to realize if it can kill, it will go through a wall! Plus if they are under the influence, there's multiple videos online that show these people take numerous rounds center mass and keep going, that is until there's a shot that hits the nervous system or they bleed out and die.
@unclegene53722 жыл бұрын
@@toddk1377 totally agree. Anyone coming into my home will be met with unprecedented violence and savagery. I firmly believe inside of fifty yards and not being belt fed, a pump or auto shotgun is the best bad guy nitey nite device to be had.
@toddk13772 жыл бұрын
@@unclegene5372 Yup. I wouldn't feel undergunned with an AR either, but any home defense shotgun should be set up appropriately to keep those hungry beasts fed, lol.
@ihcterra46253 ай бұрын
@@unclegene5372 Yes, range matters. Your comment is proof that if you want to limit the range your shot is deadly, birdshot can do that effectively. I have been hit by birdshot from long range and it does nothing. Didn't even leave a red mark on bare skin. However, if you are from home defense range, it is a completely different story. It also depends on what kind of birdshot. Target loads are not the same as an upland game load. The payload, shot size and wad design can change the range where birdshot is deadly. You also have several factors in the shotgun that effect the shot pattern and energy of a shot column. Like the forcing cone, choke and length. Changing the 1 inch per yard spread to far less. In the right gun, with the right load, and the right range, birdshot will also remove a chunk of shit from your opponent and throw it on the ground.

As someone who has taken a shot of 12 ga Birdshot to my right side,, I can say that it hurts like hell. But it did not prevent me from shooting the guy who did it.. I personally prefer a 20 ga and it was loaded with #2 buck...But I must add,, Had that lod of birdshot been a Turkey Load, I would not be here typing this.

The effectiveness of birdshot depends on a lot of factors. From inside home defense range the shot will still be in the wad. Bird shot starts at really weak and goes up to fairly powerful. Most people talking about birdshot for defense use #8 target loads. 1 oz of #8 shot going barely 1000 ft/sec. For upland game or waterfowl, the ranges you are shooting at much longer ranges, so they are usually designed to have a tighter pattern. The 1in per yard is not accurate.

There's some good videos on bird shot penetration out there that show how bad it sucks. I like 00 and personally wouldn't use anything less than #4 buck for home defense. That's only based on what I've seen used on white tailed deer. I've personally never used less than #1 buck for deer.
@ihcterra46253 ай бұрын
There are quite a few that also show the right birdshot from the right range will turn a head into a canoe rack. Most of the birdshot sucks videos use #8 target loads from a cylinder bore from 20 yards. The don't use flight control upland game plated #4 from 7 yards for a reason.
@toddk13772 жыл бұрын
This is some good info. I can concur with what he said as I've seen the same all over the internet. Most people use over penetration as their excuse for birdshot. My question is, when does over penetration become a bigger concern than lethality or stopping ability? It should be a concern, but imo, it should be further down the list below the lethality or stopping capabilities. That's why I use #4 buck. Less over penetration but still very lethal and is very capable of stopping a threat when placed center mass. I do agree that it's very important to pattern the shot. Substitute the pattern difference on that load with a choke if you cannot get another load to use. Otherwise, you want the cylinder or improved cylinder bore choke for pattern expansion on buckshot for defensive purposes. I have had a few loads that pattern well, such as Federal #4 buck 2.75" 27 pellet and Remington 2.75" 00 9 pellet loads, using the same shotgun, same barrel, same choke.
