That opening part where it was set up that you didn't know who was actually the killer...GREAT!

Love, love, love, the swerve in the first part of the trailer, making the audience suspect what the Police did in the movie. Also, brings home just how good Biehn was in this. Heck, all three of the "mains."

Fantastic job. Really goes to show what can be done to promote old movies, rather than just remake them. I'd bet if some of these "modern trailers" were pushed out more and more in ads, younger folks who missed out originally may be curious to rent, stream, or even buy the movies.

You could have introduced the Terminator character a little earlier. Kyle's role becomes obfuscated. A great line to include in between that blackout would be: "I'm Reese. Sergeant Tech-COM, DN38416. Assigned to protect you. You've been targeted for termination."

My only criticism. Other than thay, well made.

A great example of a spoiler-riddled trailer would be the ad for Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones. They show the whole damn movie. As for my three comments, I guess KZbin mobile will not let you edit anymore. Stupid app.

I was exploring the idea of misdirecting the audience to think it's a movie about Kyle stalking Sarah, hence leaving Arnie's appearance until a bit later than you might expect.

@Arrinao5 жыл бұрын
@@JamieFMartin Not really, tbh. From that era there are lot of movies with soundtracks, that perfectly hold up to this day. The soundtrack isn't bad but very repetitive. Keep in mind Terminator was a low budget movie and in some of the making-off James Cameron himself said that soundtrack is the thing that comes last and can only use the limited money that were not already spent on the movie making. I think in that same interview Brad Fiedel said the money he received for the first terminator was pretty low so he was rather uninterested until he read the script.

I thought this was super cool. Had me thinking Reese was the shadowy antagonist, didn’t see the endoskeleton to ruin the surprise from the tanker fire, many random action scenes to not piece together the plot, just wish at the VERY end (when it goes dark) you would hear some of the score from the film for a few seconds to top it off. I liked this!!

pretty much... telegraph the whole plot, ruin every bit of misunderstanding during the movie, yeah, that's a modern trailer all right. Oh, and hit a clip from every good action sequence.
@JamieFMartin10 жыл бұрын
This is the dilemma I faced; to make a faithful 'modern trailer' I felt had to follow the convention of showing a lot of the plot, as is the norm today it seems. My compromise was to a) show clips out of context, and b) not show any of the T800 endoskeleton/robot sub-structure. I may do an alternative simpler, cleaner, less spoilery version of the trailer.
@Hikuro2pnt010 жыл бұрын
jamiefmartin no way keep it like it is here, I thought it was just fine. Peope today are to gripey about modern films cause they're to nostalgic for things that were once original and now overplayed. You make it how you want it.
@TheHauntedMouth8 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the original trailers did pretty much the exact same thing. Even the shortest one gave away the whole plot, and the longer one really showed almost everything. This isn't a modern phenomenon by any means, though in either era there are a handful of trailers that actually leave a little to the imagination and don't spoil the film- the trailer for Alien is a good example.

The orchestral sound does not mix well. There should be an almost overbearing drive with synthetic sound similar to the "heartbeat" sound. And with each cut the speed of the cuts increase while making the heartbeat sound louder until you can't hear anything but that as it cuts to the glistening Title Logo. Seems like it would fit the chase genre part of the movie very well. I might do this one day. But not this one.
@slyguythreeonetwonine31727 жыл бұрын
Damn ok. That last bit of dialogue from Kyle at the end of the trailer that ends with the 800 series aiming right in your face from Tech Noir as Kyle finish "until you are dead" was great. Had you left that as the end that would have been epic as it cuts to the title logo and then fades to black. But you brought Kyle back for that one last line.

It would have been better if it was a small teaser that ended with the audience thinking that Kyle Reese was the Terminator instead of even introducing Arnold. Having said that, good job!
@JamieFMartin10 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I agree with you Eric. My original intention was to try and make a trailer that perhaps tricked the audience into thinking this is a stalker/slasher/serial-killer thriller/horror movie (and that Kyle was the Terminator). But I gave in to the temptations of being faithful to what a true modern trailer is; a spoiler-ridden bit of excitement. I may actually make a shorter version of the trailer, more akin to the first third of this one, showing less plot relating to the T800. I got an email from Gale Anne Hurd (the co-writer and producer of The Terminator), who made the point that others have also made: "If we were actually going to release the film for the first time now, we would have held back on the key moments and plot points you reveal, but that’s just quibbling." Quibbles aside, she has a point.
@docleo200110 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% that the plots get completely spoiled now. Just look at the new Terminator trailer.

Great job. There is no other Kyle Reese. Michael Biehn is the only one. Anton Yelchin at least tried getting Michael Biehn's Reese down but Jai Courtney..... Where do I start with that pusswad?? Kyle Reese was one of the most heroic characters ever. Michael Biehn played him to perfection. Jai Courtney came along and never even bothered to watch the original because he wanted to make the part his own. It wasn't his part to do that. At least Anton Yelchin watched the original. Courtney figured he was above that.
@LauraSusanJohnson7 жыл бұрын
Jai Courtney was a model before wasn't he? He wanted to make the part his own (snort!) Well the only character he ever played that seemed interesting was from the first Divergent movie, and that's because he looked strange with all the piercings and shit. Guy needs acting lessons before bragging about making a part "his own." Biehn rules.
@MrCarpen7er7 жыл бұрын
And like that wasn´t enough, that terrible line, "I volunteered for this shit" makes it even worse. Kyle Reese would never say that. Stupid.

The shorter one is MUCH better. It had the "You're dead honey (dramatic silence pause)" and the RED glow font cut to Sarah's face glowing red in Tech-Noir. This gives away WAY TOO MUCH which is what made the film so great kind of not knowing Arnold was a machine from the future and what was going on. I agree. But I wanted to create a trailer in the 'modern' sense - ie they chronologically outline the entire plot for you, so that you don't even need to go and see the film. This is why I've done a second, shorter Terminator trailer that hopefully gives less away - check it out on my channel.
