When it comes to your wedding day, you're not just celebrating your love story, but inviting your family and friends to be a part of the celebration as well! So, if you want to maximize the guest experience, follow these 9 key tips to ensure happy vibes all around.
1. The Date, Time, and Location. I know we don't all have unlimited resources when it comes to these factors, but if you have the option to, select a date not near a major holiday, a time that is feasible and reasonable for most involved, and a location that is convenient (or really worth it!).
2. The Weather. Don't plan an outdoor event if it'll be too hot or too cold! And don't forget the heaters. I know they're an added expense, but your guests will thank you for it.
3. The Parking. Parking should be close, accessible, and free or low cost.
4. The Timeliness. While there may be circumstances out of your control, starting on time sets the tone for the rest of your event.
5. The Entertainment. Hire a great DJ! They will make or break your event, and the good ones are worth their weight in gold if you wanna boogie in your blue suede shoes.
6. The Food. Feed your guests well! Make sure there's enough to go around, and try not to skimp on the appetizers.
7. The Booze. You don't need fancy cocktails or high end spirits to make your guests happy. Just make sure there are some options beyond water to pique your guests' interest. And avoid a cash bar if you can. But if not, know your guests are grateful for any amount of alcohol they can get their hands on!
8. The Flow. A good coordinator and a good DJ are clutch for this. They help to ensure the event flows smoothly from one detail to the next, and no one will notice a thing. And trust me. If guests don't notice anything, that's a GOOD thing.
9. The Connection. They came to celebrate with you! If you have the time, go around to each table and say

I respect everyone’s decision on how they want their wedding day to be. This video however pretty much sums up why I chose to get married on a cruise with family only. I just feel like having a traditional wedding is for everyone but the bride and groom. The guests have such high expectations and the couple spends all of their time and money trying to meet those expectations. Many of those people aren’t even close the couple. I don’t feel the need to have a crowd of acknowledgement in order to feel excited and content with my marriage. I can’t wait to celebrate our love for one another on a vacation with those we love most!

A M I’m glad to see I’m not the only person feeling like this ! I hate all the formality with getting married and how family expect you to do xyz . I’m kind of up in the air about eloping atm because I want certain aspects but I don’t want the drama of having to please everyone else 😩 did you have any regrets about having a small wedding ? X

My wedding is in about a month and I am so glad I found this! Just watch this video and the 12 things guest don't care about and it was very helpful thanks! I was on the edge between making programs or not and now Im glad I don't have to feel like people will care. Also, we decided a 1 hour open bar and then the rest of the night the bar tender is there for people to buy their own drinks.

In the UK a cash bar is more or less the norm. It's because British people (and yes I'm British) drink A LOT at weddings. It's not unusual for a normal 'average' larger/beer drinker to consume 10-15 pints or bottles throughout the duration of the reception and evening party. A welcome drink, payed for by the bride and groom, is also usually served on arrival at the reception venue which is usual champagne, if your going fancy, or bucks fizz - a combination of fresh orange juice and sparkling white wine. Wine is also provided for the tables during the meals at about half to one bottle per person or a soft drink. A further glass is also served after the meal for the toasts which is usual champagne or more commonly Prosecco or sparkling white wine. These are almost always expected by guests. It's also seen as rude to not provided water (in summer only lol) and tea and coffee for after your reception meal. Also most British weddings seem to last longer than American weddings (from what I have gathered from KZbin.) The latest wedding ceremony I've attended was at 2 pm. Most start at between 11:30 and 1 and go on until after midnight depending on your venue and thus guests get fed twice or even three times; once at the reception which is usually a three course silver service meal or a served buffet (although some people are bunking this trend now and going for different things such as pizza, fish and chips, curry, street food or giant hog roasts) this is then followed in the early evening by a more relaxed buffet, pizza or BBQ in the summer. 'Package' weddings are quite common, although i'm not too keen, where the bride and groom pay one set price for the whole event. You tell then your colour scheme and just turn up on the day and everything is sorted for you. DJ, food, table wine, decorations, staff etc. but although there tend to be cheaper there are conveyor belt and every wedding is near enough identical. Dry hire and outdoor receptions are becoming increasingly popular as couples are wanting to put their own 'stamp' on thing. However, as the UK wedding industry has started to notice this the dry hire venues and hire companies are starting to charge more and 'package' wedding venues prices are starting to come down.

I am from Mauritius and a cash bar would be considered as SCANDALOUS here. I know in uk it's done but here it would be totally unacceptable. The best option is to find a venue where you can bring you own alcohol even if that means playing a corkage fee...

It's hard to stick with an open bar. I was thinking either we'll have an open bar for cocktail hour and then cash bar afterwards. Because my parents are non drinkers so I don't want people getting over the top drunk. I want everyone to enjoy themselves of course but there are people who drink more than others so I'm meeting the need at a halfway point. Or we would have beer, wine and then a signature drink or 2. So it wouldn't get too crazy expensive. I think there's a lot to be said about alcohol at weddings but if you can't afford a cash bar, don't let people make you feel bad because you can't afford it. Do what you can with what you can afford

I am looking for green and environmentally friendly wedding tips and tricks. There are so many things that could be done, but the question is, what do guests care about and what don't they? If I go vegetarian buffet, will it start a food fight? What experience have you had with environmental weddings and how guests accept/follow the wants and desires of the bride and groom?

So I have a question for you. Due to religious reasons, there won’t be alcohol or dancing at my wedding. I’m not really afraid for the people I’m going to invite since most of them either share my religious background or understand it, but I’m afraid my fiancé’s guests will be bored and irritated. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do to counter that/in the place of dancing and booze?

I've noticed open bars are much more important in the US than in the UK. In the US it means have around one drink an hour, in the UK an open bar means take as much as you can get! So in the UK we have drinks packages from the venue (eg. One at cocktail hour, 2 for dinner, one for toasts) and then the guests pay for their drinks during the party part of the reception.
@chantellem6457
@chantellem6457 6 жыл бұрын
Jamie Wolfer Sort of. In the UK you have the main wedding breakfast and then a buffet is usually expected in the evening. Would you say that in the US the food at cocktail hour is more important than party-time food?

German weddings usually have a few games in between. I organized a lottery for my brother in laws wedding that had everyone laughing. You could buy the tickets ( all proceeds for the happy couple) and could win "awesome " prizes. They are all pun based,so not all translate to English. Some of the prizes that do translate were a analog notebook ( college block with a pen ) ,a candlelight dinner ( can of soup and a candle) you get the idea we used it to fill the gap between the main meal and dessert

I find it interesting that you say cash bar is a no-no. In the UK, a cash bar is very common and it work's very well. I haven't yet been to a British wedding with an open bar. Usually, there is free wine and champagne but the guests have to pay for any more drinking (British people drink a lot!). I'm originally Nigerian and my Fiance is British. In Nigeria, you can't let your guests pay for drinks during your wedding whereas in England it is very much the norm. We have decided to meet half way on it.

Jamie Wolfer for one I would have worn more sensible shoes or brought flats to change into, I forgot how much more the wedding party has to be on their feet compared to a guest. I also would have made more of an effort to get to know who I’d be spending the day with beforehand. I was the grooms sis and didn’t know his fiancé’s friends so it was kind of intense to come from out of town and jump in with her closest friends with no prior contact. I’d also put more effort into self care surrounding that day. For someone with social anxiety being a bridesmaid is taxing. I’d eat more too. I’d also have taken more time to show appreciation to the bride and groom for including me.

I live in Scotland and have never been to a wedding without a cash bar. Personally I would rather pay for my drinks and get what I like rather than having only beer and wine as an option which I don't like and would probably leave early. Its super common here to have a cash bar. Also the grooms father typically buys the first round. However at my wedding a cash bar will be present at night but up until after the meal we will have alcohol that we have supplied and juice so guests can have some drinks for free.

Last few weddings we've gone to did not have alcohol other than the wedding party toast. Event program, one per table if there is something tricky such as service inside, outside for cocktails, inside again for the reception. The last one all guests toasted with a sparkly. Everyone still had a good time and no drama or dui concerns. I drove 13 hours to attend the last one, held at a chic barn in a very small town. This is all good information.

I was at a destination wedding where they planned an outdoor wedding and reception. As the reception was about to start, it started raining. Since we were at an all-inclusive resort, a bunch of us basically just ducked into the closest restaurant and started chatting over (free since the resort was all-inclusive) alcoholic drinks until they were able to get the reception set up at a conference room inside. It was actually a nice way to get to know some people. Didn't ruin the experience at all. Also, I'm surprised to hear that people care about the DJ. Unless the only music was rap the entire night, I wouldn't notice the difference.

My (ex) wife and I had an outdoor wedding on December 6, in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. We got pretty lucky that the weather wasn't terrible. It had very light snow falling. But Canadians are a hardy bunch as well, that know how to come prepared for cold weather. We also had a large bonfire burning near the front to keep people warm, and everyone was served hot chocolate or tea on the way out to the ceremony. It worked amazing. But I could DEFINITELY see where it wouldn't work. Thankfully, if the weather didn't cooperate, we had a venue that would serve as our ceremony place as well.

⭐Connections / Receiving line alternative: Receiving Lines for guests can take a long time, and create some anxious energies. An alternative is for you and your sweetheart to usher people out and you get to have a little connection with each person before sending them ahead to the reception where hors d'oeuvres are waiting to satisfy their rumbling tummies. We did it with a sanctuary of about 150 guests. We were surprised that it took about 10mins to file everyone out. Plus they got to snack on yummy food while photos were being done

This sounds like a stereotypical asian wedding. My parents were adamant on have the Chinese style catering which included 5 courses and bottomless beer and wine as well as 1 bottle of spirit (Hennessy) on each table. It was also customary we go to each table take a photo with everyone and have a drink before moving on. My mom said everyone will remember and talk about the food decades later if its good or bad... 😂

To me, you absolutely MUST make the rounds, table to table, once early and once late. Guests spend a lot of money, on whatever your gift is, plus whatever they’re wearing, plus hair, etc. To not stop at each table at least once is extremely rude. That says you don’t care. 2 rounds of cocktails. One with appetizers. One after dinner. Champagne toast. Period. Most states have liability laws, regarding a guest getting drunk at your event and then getting hurt. Either there or somewhere else Be aware of that.

"Also, don't skip the appetizers. That is way too long for people to go without food. Hangry guests are not happy guests." 100% correct! I grew up going to weddings where they NEVER served appetizers while the wedding party was off getting pictures taken. As a kid, this sucked. As an adult, this sucks. Because by the time the bridal party returns from pictures, you don't give a damn about the grand entrance or the first dance. You're just hungry and want to eat already!! THIS is why, if I were to marry, I would absolutely want appetizers served for cocktail hour! Cause I absolutely hated sitting there hungry as a guest!

Beer and wine will not suffice in South Africa and Namibia. You will be expected to have Whiskey, Brandy, Tequila, Vodka, Gin, etc - BUT cashbars are TOTALLY acceptable and actually expected. :)

do you think guest will care if booze is NOT present at all? My soon to be fiance wants nice clean fun and I think that might kill the party vibe of the reception. As a professional what do you suggest? Thank you and love your channel

Brittney Bellfield sounds like he's worried about the cost. You need at least red and white wine and a light beer option and regular beer option (bottles not cans) at a wedding, unless this is like a wedding for future missionaries mostly inviting the members of their church. Keep in mind weddings can be depressing for people who have lost their spouse, are divorced or over 30 and still single. They need some booze. 🙂

Dry weddings are a lot like any other dry event. People who have stopped drinking-- for whatever reason-- usually find that others react in a wide spectrum of ways, from finding it admirable to it being a non-issue to being disappointed to taking it SUPER personally and being hostile. And, having fun without booze actually takes a little practice if you're used to the opposite. Maybe y'all could get involved with a community of non-drinkers and start practicing, see for yourselves how to have fun without, how dry parties get going, etc., and then apply that knowledge to your wedding.

I think that's a great question. What do you do if some of your guests are in recovery? Some people can be around alcohol and not be tempted, but some can't.

I can say that when I went to a recent wedding, I felt it wasn't very well coordinated. There wasn't a seating arrangement and it ended up that some people weren't seated where they should have been, there was nobody keeping the guests entertained between the end of the wedding and the beginning of the reception, so it was somewhat awkward. The bride and groom had maybe ten minutes in their seats before they were up and doing photo after photo after photo after photo with guests and groups of guests, not always with their professional photographers, either. It was a lovely wedding, but the reception definitely seemed very chaotic.

Great video!! I watched the other one as well about what the guests don’t care about. Very helpful!! I am actually a newly wed and my best friend and my brother in law met at our wedding and now THEY are getting married!! What a love story to be had!! I’m still enamored at the thought. Anyway. So, the one thing that I couldn’t and wouldn’t do without (and having just went through our wedding recently, I definitely know what I would and wouldn’t do...like an outdoor barn wedding in early September in the Midwest. We were dying from heat stroke but our photographer was a gem, the photos don’t give it away at all.) What I want to ask, my BBF said that she is going to just have someone else “be in charge of music,” but I definitely agree with you that I would NOT do without a DJ and our DJ was A-MAZING. He came to the rehearsal and even put together a bunch of Christian songs even though he wasn’t at all familiar with them before and it was so perfect! AND my dad couldn’t make it to rehearsal so he acted as the “stand in” for my dad which was just so awesome!! My question (finally) How do I tell her that I would spend the money on the DJ? He was only $600 too. And I’m telling you. He was BOMB! I almost want to ask her if I can pay for him just so she can have it taken care of........ Let me know what you think!!

In the UK a cash bar is more expected I think, otherwise people go crazy! We have a drinks package so everyone gets a drink on arrival, half a bottle of wine during our meal and then champagne for toasts, then in the evening after the second meal there will be a cash bar, but unlimited soft drinks. I’m hoping people will be ok with this!

I always worry about how I am doing my wedding. Most of my guests are religious and non alcoholic but I also have a few friends and family who do drink. The FH and I decided to do a dry reception. We're keeping the reception short but giving plenty of time for dinner and planning on having games, prizes, photobooth, cake, etc. We're not very traditional on these things. But.. because we are doing the dry reception we also decided to host an after party with the guests who do drink at our home( not a big list btw). Most of them were happy with that and preferred not to get intoxicated in front of the religious family. All in all this made me feel less stressed. My guest list is all family and friends I'm close to and they respect my decisions. Even most of them told me they didnt care if the reception was dry. They're there to celebrate us and arent going for the booze. 😭 (I had gotten so caught up in all those blogs where other brides bash dry receptions, it got to me)

Cash bar= we are cheap and don’t care whether you drink or not. As my mother always said “if you agree to host a party, do it right…. OR…don’t do it at all🤔. Rent glassware if you are doing a DIY affair. Nothing says tacky like paper plates and red Solo cups. Close parking is OK if you cannot have a valet… Not even a prostitute wants to walk in stilettos. If your Dancefloor is empty… Get to that DJ and tell him to change the music. Remember you are paying him/her. Lots of “good” food and good music makes a fantastic party… save the Baked Ziti for another time, not at your wedding.. it’s boring.

I find the free bar idea strange it's just not a thing in the UK. I have never been to a wedding with free drink other than fizzy wine for a toast or maybe a bottle of white and red wine on the table. Fuck I'm getting my guests to pay for their own meal instead of a wedding present. Only £13 a head (approx $16) so I'm not gonna be buying alcohol 😂

In India, we do not have this concept of "Pay to park for this amt of time" like nobody would do it lol. Don't know why this concept even exists. I don't think I have seen this in other Asian countries either. We have free designated parking lots alongside walks or the building we go to has parking lots there. Why do we have to pay just to park our vehicle?? The govt certainly did not pay for my vehicle so it makes no sense for me to pay "Time" for it. We also pay road tax to use the roads and maintain it.
