I was a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding. She got married at midnight on Halloween, so they swapped it and had the reception first (starting at around 8pm - reception was a costume party and then the bridal party got changed into pretty clothes for the ceremony). This was over 10 years ago but I still remember the insanity to this day and we use it as a benchmark for every other wedding in the family. These are just some of the highlights. 1. The bride is vegan and the only food there was candy. Nothing but candy for 4 hours. My aunt (mother of the bride) snuck in a full leg of lamb and was pulling family members off the dance floor into the kitchen to secretly offer them some (I still don’t know if the bride knows about that to this day). 2. There was a belly dancer performance that was not explained to anyone. 3. The mother of the bride was afraid of bad juju cause they were getting married at midnight on Halloween, so she brought a HUGE thing of sage. It looked like a massive joint as big as my wrist. While we were all getting changed out of our costumes and getting the “pretty” hair and makeup done (my makeup was done by a girl dressed like an blue avatar, tail and all), the mother of the bride decides to hang the dress from a sprinkler directly below a fire alarm and light the sage joint on FIRE in an attempt to smoke/cleanse the dress. My other aunt and I very quickly noticed what was happening and my other aunt TACKLED the mother of the bride to prevent her from setting off the fire alarms in this old historic estate house. 4. The father of the bride didn’t get the memo that the bridal party was changing for the ceremony. He walked his daughter down the aisle dressed as a hobo cause that was his Halloween costume. 5 and lastly, when the bride went to cut the very expensive vegan wedding cake the MotB had paid for, she took the knife, grabbed it like a horror movie villain (because Halloween) and proceeded to stab the cake repeatedly.

I have a few horror stories: 1) friend of mine attended a wedding where a cousin of the groom tackled a bridesmaid for the bouquet, then got drunk and started telling everyone how her cousin could do better than the bride. 2) I attended a wedding where the father of the bride was diabetic and he had a hypoglycemic attack just before the ceremony because he hadn't eaten all day. 3) Some family friends were invited to a wedding by the father of the bride (they didn't actually know the bride or groom). The venue was a hotel that had 2 ballrooms, and there were 2 weddings happening at the same time. They didn't realise they were at the wrong wedding until they saw the father of the bride and had to awkwardly walk out (and collect their gift before they left). 4) The youngest of the pageboys at my cousin's wedding decided he didn't like his suit, so he somehow managed to take it off (impressive, considering he couldn't have been older than 5) and ran down the aisle naked and screaming, until his mother caught him and took him outside.

I did not attend the wedding, but it made it into the local newspapers .. full outdoor wedding in summer, summer storm comes in, everybody is hiding somewhere, but the storm is so heavy that trees fall down … luckily, the wedding party was really laid back and i guess the dj somehow managed to save his equipment and rescued everything, bc according to the article, everybody just let loose and partied hard after that and they still had a good time. the wedding pictures had the bride in converse chucks and her husband pose on fallen trees, smiling from ear to ear 😊

Not my own personal horror story, but a story from a wedding I attended. Our friends got married outside at a hotel next to the Hofbrauhaus, during Oktoberfest. When the bride started reading her vows (handwritten and very heartfelt I might add) the Chicken Dance started playing in the Biergarten!

For our wedding we hired a ska band to play at our reception. This was June 2021 so it was the first live music most of our guests had seen since the start of the pandemic. Mentally, I was committed to dancing every set. Physically, I was not prepared and during the last set I dislocated my knee. I continued to party as if it didnt really happen and had an amazing time but my knee was a soccer ball the next morning. 😂😂

When my cousin got married the bartender opened the bar BEFORE their ceremony, so... their vows were paired with the classy sound of beer slurping. This same bartender also served me (a 9 year old child) "mocktails" that well... weren't mocktails . My poor little drunk self was vomiting everywhere! If that wasn't bad enough, her father also forgot to put his teeth in so he isn't smiling in any of their photos, their DJ didn't show and half the bridesmaids ditched the wedding to go to a local bar just before her first dance. Good news is they have been together 12 years now, have three beautiful boys and one hell of a party story!

My parents went to a coworkers wedding, and the family of the bride happened to be all vegan. So all of the food provided was vegan and everything. The bride and groom also happened to be really into Carnival things and themed the wedding around this. They had a carnival act perform and one of the things they did was swallow a goldfish. This apparently sent the vegan family into hysterics and they started shouting at the act and booing them and it turned into a full on protest 😭

A true horror story that just happened - one of my guests attended this wedding after mine and told me about it - The bride had her wedding outside, in the summer, in a closed tent. If you’ve ever sat inside a parked car with it turned off, you’ll know it gets way hotter inside of there than outside so you need a portable air conditioner or fans in a closed tent in 90 degree heat. Her venue lacked both and didn’t tell her until the day of AND the venue ran out of ice. The bride ended up getting severely overheated and dehydrated and spent her entire wedding in the hospital. She’s doing a redo wedding AT HER BROTHER’S WEDDING. Which, if she’s close to her brother’s fiancé, might be kind of sweet. But imagine if these women don’t get along or barely know each other and the brother’s fiancé is just gonna have to suck it up and share her day that SHE probably paid for cause otherwise she’ll look like a horrible heartless person. That’s a true horror story situation. A fart is just unfortunate but it’ll also probably be one of the funniest and favorite memories down the line. Definitely not a horror story compared to some of the ones I’ve seen online 😆

I went to a wedding reception where the bride and groom showed up in casual clothes while the rest of the guests were in nice wedding clothes. No where on the invitation did it say a certain dress code. The bride and groom were the worst dressed people at their own reception. They also made everyone watch them OPEN PRESENTS. It was so tacky and so many people left early. It felt like a kid's birthday party.

I've been to so many weddings that needed someone with a timeline who could enforce it. But the most disappointing thing to happen at a wedding I was a guest at was that there were only 2 drink options, water and lemonade. However, the "lemonade" was literally just water with a few lemon slices thrown in. It was just lightly flavored lemon water.

My brother and sister-in-law got married a few years ago. It was about time for the maid of honor and the best man to hand off the rings. The officiant had us all bow our heads to pray a little beforehand, and all the sudden I feel my sister elbow me in the arm a few times. I open my eyes and she whispers in my ear “Oh my gosh, she can’t find the ring” I look up and see the maid of honor and the other bridesmaids exchanging looks of panic as the maid of honor was quietly looking around, moving her dress, checking the bouquet, etc. At this point the majority of the guests have their eyes open looking at the maid of honor. Finally, the sound of a ring dripping echos throughout the building. Somehow, the ring had fallen into the maid of honors dress, and after pulling the dress away from her chest it fell to the floor. Everyone pretended like nothing happened, and then we all had a good laugh about it during the ceremony.

I had a causal friend ask me to cut the cake at her wedding. I was happy to do it. She had ordered a cake too small to feed the number of guests at the wedding. So the caterer kept coming up to me and telling me I was cutting the pieces of cake too big. So I followed her crazy instructions and started cutting microscopic pieces of cake and 1/2 the cake was left after every single wedding guest had gotten their cake. (In my area people actually eat cake)

At my boyfriend's mom's wedding, her childhood best friend got absolutely smashed during the getting-ready hours before the ceremony, stumbled around during the ceremony, and spilled red wine on her dress at the reception with no apology the next day.

I got married July 2020. My mom was my minister and slipped childhood traumas into the ceremony I invited 200 100 rsvped my photographer canceled morning of and my venue shut down because the governor reshut down the state funny thing only my husband's immediate family showed. We pitched a tent at my moms got married by the lake and Facebook lived the event. We froze a whole tier of cake and ate it for dinner on our anniversary. He also got to smash a whole piece in my face on our wedding day. Didn't attempt to fake feed me or anything. His excuse? He was going to get me before I got him. Hes not wrong though lol. Also my moms family has a tradition.they steel the bride after the ceremony. Our wedding was mobster themed so I let my step dad steel me in his razor we got lost in the woods for 2 hours but honestly it was kinda nice he packed drinks in a cooler we found a clearing and had a moment just the two of us. It was definitely a Murphys law day but honestly I wouldn't change a thing. I got to spend the whole night with close family and my bridal party. And who honestly gets to dance every dance at there wedding and eat great food and drink there favorite wine after marring there best friend? Not many. I'm sure things will go better when we renew our vows but that will have to wait because we just welcome our first baby and our life is always crazy.

Two of my cousins got married within the same month(they are brother and sister). On the wedding date it poured rain the entire day. There was people blow drying dressing in the back room. On the second day it was blistering hot in an unairconditioned church in Detroit, Michigan. Not fun. If that was enough, there was a Tornado warning that night as well. Fun times. Edit: My cousin who was married first also realized he did have his tux jacket about 1 hour before he had to be at the church. And the church was about 35 minutes away.and he was 10 minutes away from the us place.

I have a story lol. I went to visit my long-distance boyfriend (now fiancé) for a week and it happened to coincide with a wedding he was invited to. He told me to bring fancy clothes. Two days before the wedding, he’s calling the father of the groom to ask if I could attend (I had assumed he’d dealt with that already). The father agreed and on the day of he was at the entrance with my ticket, because you could only enter the venue with a ticket. Here’s where it starts getting interesting. We get to the building where the ceremony was gonna be and there were only seats in the first two rows. Mind you we showed up on time, also considering that weddings in Brazil never start on time lol. We sat in the second row and about 15 minutes later the coordinator asked us to leave cuz it was reserved seating. No big deal, we stood up only to find that the walls were packed with people standing. We ended up finding some stairs to sit at. The wedding was supposed to start at 5 and only started at 6:30. I saw many people leave. Once the ceremony finally started, the officiant mentioned happily that they were expecting about 300 people and about 250 showed up. You heard me right. There were probably enough chairs for 100 people. Come reception time, dinner was served at around 8, and the line for food was humongous and some of it ran out. They only cut the cake at 10. Our ride back was with a groomsman, who took forever to show up because the groom wanted a flash drive with movies to watch during the honeymoon. More stuff happened, but these were the more serious ones lol

A couple of funnies... My parents wedding was way back in 1983. First my mom was an hour late to the wedding with zero explanation... just leaving my dad, the priest and all of the guests waiting. Then she smoked a cigarette and sat on the steps of the cathedral wit some relatives, in her wedding gown before going inside. All she said was 'Sorry'.... At the reception, my uncle fired the DJ and kept the money.... he decided to fix it by going home, getting his truck and bringing a long extension cord and his own record player.... haha! My friends wedding was in 2008. She had a beautiful bright color scheme with gerbera daisies and used clover green, light yellow and tropical blue as colors.... her Mother In Law to be was a horrible woman who wanted all of the control.... When we decorated the venue, mom came in and added RED decor to everything.... Green.... red.... tropical blue and yellow. It looked ridiculous!

not really a horror story, but where I am from, it is tradition that bride and groom have a shot/glass of champagne or whatever together before the wedding party enters the wedding venue. as they empty the glass and put it back on the tablet that is held by the restaurant/venue owner, the owner drops the tablet and the glasses fall down and break. this is meant as the first task that they have to do together, swiping up the shards. idk how, but my niece and nephew jumped in and tried to help tidying it up, and my little nephew cut his finger when he picked up a shard 😅 no drama though, a band aid was quickly found and everybody found it cute (he didnt cry, just showed somebody that he was bleeding slightly)

I'd love some advice from people who aren't my family. I'm getting married this October in Texas and while 90% of my wedding guests (only invited 60) are vaccinated, a few aren't. I've given everyone the option due to the pandemic to watch via livestream instead of attending if they felt uncomfortable. But my father not only has been critiquing me with the fact I'm allowing non-vaccinated guests a chance to attend my wedding but that I am "not thinking of mom and her health" with allowing them to attend. My mother and father are both vaccinated, but he hit me deep with this comment. Am I being selfish with allowing guests to attend without vaccination? I am a person who believes everyone has a right to choose and I myself am vaccinated (though my fiancé isn't). I just feel so overwhelmed and don't know what is best/right anymore.

So by your dad's thinking, it's also "selfish" of you to want your unvaxxed fiancé there?

@@aye_ehn_jayy he's thinking it's selfish that I'm not forcing my fiancé to get vaccinated. It's been a huge issue and I am not sure if how I feel isn't just me being selfish or if (minus cancelling my wedding) there's even anything I can do.

I think if you require a covid test for unvaccinated people that might be a good compromise? It could make your dad feel safer.
@nickerpuppets3 жыл бұрын
@@sophiar.2904 I didn't state it as mandatory, but I have already encouraged our guests to get tested prior to our wedding on our wedding website along with added links regarding Texas laws regarding any pandemic updates. I would require it to be mandatory, but sadly I know my relatives (not including my dad) and they would lie in a heartbeat so I'd never know if they did get tested or not without seeing paperwork and since it's personal medical information I don't think I'm allowed to request seeing it.
@sophiar.29043 жыл бұрын
@@nickerpuppets oh, I don't really know about laws/rules, I just know a few people who required it over here. But I guess if people would lie, I understand the discomfort of your dad a bit better. I worked on and off with a caterer who also sometimes did the wedding planning honestly she wasn't great at it great caterer though, anyhow. The bride ordered a cake from someone else and it was under done in turn caused the cake to start falling over before the wedding we tried to save the cake by adding supports but it didn't help. so I hid behind the cake table and held the cake up so that they had pictures of them cutting their cake. After that, the cake was rushed into the kitchen to be taken apart and cut to serve. The same girl that I worked with had me working 8 hours after my 9 to 5 on flower arrangements. then had me wake up at 5 am to go and load everything up in my car to be delivered to a venue we didn't have access to until 9 am she however didn't arrive until an hour before the wedding started she had the trailer with almost all of the decor. it was also flooding rain when she arrived and we all got soaking wet running back and forth from the trailer to the inside of the venue and had no change of clothes.

The only horror story I've experienced at a wedding was when they didn't have enough food for everyone, I'm talking like 40 people out of 100 (including myself) didn't get to eat

We did the photo with the groomsmen picking me up and one of them ripped his pants while putting me down 😂 luckily it wasn’t really noticeable.
