5:28 Also yes, when Rave Master started in the manga, it was very obvious it was Mashima's first manga, the drawings were very rough and frankly a bit amateurish, but over the course of the manga he hones his drawing skills and by the end of Rave's run you basically see the style that Fairy Tail's early chapters would look like.

Rave Master is the first 'official' manga by Hiro Mashima. The same guy that did Fairy Tail. When you watch Fairy Tail, especially the earlier episodes, you can see some Easter Eggs from Rave Master in Fairy Tail. Just like Edens Zero, there are Fairy Tail Easter Eggs now. if you go and check shots with the Rave master anime you will notice a very distinct difference when it comes to art style. Back when the creator of Fairy tail was doing the manga for Rave master, it was one of his first serialized works, and he was just starting his journey as a mangaka, his art style was very different compared to how it is today. That being said, when they made this crossover special the Rave master characters got a makeover in his new art style.

Haru's sword is actually the orignal Ten commandments (Erza Knightwalker used a spear form in the Edolas arc) and like Nightwalker it has 10 forms. Though the 10th form is kind of a oddball as Haru actually gets a new sword near the end of the manga which becomes his 10th holy sword. The crystal near the base of the hilt is actually what gives the sword its multiple forms so he's still able to use the first 9.

hiro mashima's artstyle has actually changed a lot from rave master to Eden's zero and I guarantee after Eden's zero is over his artstyle won't even be close to the same he can't even draw most of the stuff from rave anymore

Basically when Hiro started drawing Rave Master, he did not have a very defined art style yet, but as the series kept going, his style kept improving and by the end Haru looked quite a lot like Natsu. And Musica didn't look like that at all at he beginning of the series, he had quite the different hair style. He had Shoulder length straight brown hair.

It is very funny that when Fairy Tail was just starting out, everyone was just a parallel of Rave Master characters. Lucy was Elie being the girl protag with Plue and a (not-love-interest-but-totally-love-interest) to boy protag. Natsu is just Haru and Let combined, Haru's MC spiky haired shonen personality, and Let's dragon powers. Gray was just Musica, the cool rival of the male protag complete with Gray using Ice to makeshift attacks while Musica uses Silver Claim, which harnesses silver to makeshift attacks. Jellal is just Sieghart but way less cool.

Yup, and you can just keep going: Erza is a fusion of Elie and Julia. Cobra is more evil looking Shuda. Laxus is also Shuda, but blonde. Gajeel is far edgier Let. Levy is younger Belnika. Ultear is depressed Reina. Romeo is Niebel, but a Natsu fan instead of a Jellal fan. Larcade is sparkly Deepsnow. August is less evil Shakuman. Acnologia is more badass Lucia with an Endless skin. Layla and Anna are less mind-blowing Resha. And of course, Plue is less badass Plue.

Erza is originally appeared first in Fairy Tail so she don't have counterpart in Rave Master. The two characters Wendy met are Let and Julie which are from the Dragon Race in Rave Master. Haru's swords is ten commandments, He can transform his sword into into 10 kinds with different abilities. Only few are featured in this Ova, Haru completes the ten commandments and became more badass in the Rave Master manga. Also, Ellie is so overpowered in the manga. I miss both Rave Master and Fairy Tail.

so basically this is my weebs knowledge to answer your question. based on mashima's explanation yes they are in same universe but they are apart for some years. notice in fairy tail they made the years for example like, X777 (the date the dragons disappear.) it means actually year 10777. and Haru from Rave is born in year 0050 and this years also is year 10050 since the 1st rave master shiba born in year 9992. so fairy tail and rave arc is separated by 700+ years. and there even connection of rave in fairy tail. for example zeref and natsu were originated from mildian in years 10300s. in rave mildian is the original and the only village of magic. and vice versa, in rave manga there is easter eggs where saga made prophecy that in hundred years stellar memory will fuse mystic world with human world (earthland) in order to destroy remaining dark bring remnants (not real dark bring but remnants of dark energy of enclaim ritual) resulting the richness of ethernano in atmosphere in earthland and creates many magician compared to rave story. in rave story, the magician were even more rare than in fairy tail time. creatures like dragons start to live in earthland and gained intelligence after absorbing much ethernano. originally dragon race in dragon form is mindless but it more powerful than their human form but since they can still maintain their sanity while having dragon form, their decisiona is leading the dragon is no longer considered a demihuman race but fully fledged intelligence being as dragon. the text of this history even in a scroll that kid zeref read. and furthermore saga even prophesize that dragon race will be wiped out in 300 years, and that when acnologia wiped dragons. another easter cannon mashima wrote after rave is that lucia the main villain of rave is survived and arrived in original timeline which is resulting endless no longer appeared in the alternate timeline haru and the gang lived in. (in rave the storyline basically the world is branched into 2 timeline because lucia's ancestor went back in time to save humans and resulting alternate timeline and lucia's family tried to atone that sin and restore the timeline by destroying the alternate timeline.) and mashima mentioned that in the original timeline he is not alone, actually there some wormhole in earthland sucking few hundreds of people and animals and trees to the original timeline thus lucia is able to restore the original timeline. that timeline in fairy tail is known as edolas where ethernano is very limited because the resources are finite because the wormhole bring that to edolas after the apocalypse. it can be seen in edolas history that edolas calendar is only 700+ years

If you ever decide to touch Rave Master, read the manga. The anime is pretty weak and almost childish in comparison to the source material. The only good thing about it was Haru's VA and that's pretty much it. Hopefully it gets the Shaman King treatment (not likely though). Great reaction!!! Loved this OVA! ✊
