As a buyer, paying for shipping doesn’t deter me from purchasing an item. I look at the shipping cost as a small fee that saves me time and gas. It is absolutely worth paying in my opinion.

The constant increases by USPS changed how I do business years ago by not offering "free" shipping. It's far easier to charge actual shipping than to alter prices each time there is an increase. It's silly to quit altogether, it affects everyone equally.

I have offered free shipping on Mercari on certain items because their rates over 3lbs are ridiculous then ship using Pirateship. Ebay its all calculated shipping. Occasionally I do flat rate for a book maybe.
@DavidGregoire_

I live in Canada and we've seen about 15% increase on rates in the last 3 years maybe. People will still pay to get the stuff delivered if sold at the right price. Forces me to be a better picker and source my stuff at lower prices but also being more careful with sell through. Shipping the to US is still a rate nightmare though.

@@PodunkPicker it's because mercari does dimensional shipping so for a 4 pound item because of the size your paying 10 pound rates same thing with usps and ups if you hit a certain size I think it's currently over 21 inches your going to get what ebay and ups call a Ballon rate or oversized rate I'm old school and I Believe it's the buyers responsibility to pay shipping nonmatter what if it's a large item like an instrument, stereo receiver or sewing machine and you package it well (meaning box inside a box) shipping is going to be $100 or more but again if the buyer wants it it's there responsibility to pay shipping I akwats yell buyers who complain about shipping if you don't want to pay $100 or more for shipping buy it in person or from a seller closer to your zip code buyers need to stop being babied and realize shipping is expensive this is actual cost to ship your item and it's your responsibility as a buyer to pay that shipping period end of story

I use calculated shipping across the board. My sales are better than they have been in years, and I chalk it up to consistency in listing the same number of items every day. I use drafts and scheduled listings so that I can schedule listings days before they are to be actually listed. I do six items a day that are end and sell similar of my oldest inventory, and I do six brand new listings a day, so 12 in total. I started the dedication to consistency in late October, and since then, I have only had one day without a sale. Right now, I am averaging $130 in gross sales per day.

I also do end and sell similar everyday now along with my new listings. I have found in many cases items we have had on inventory a long time sell within a few days of doing this. I sold an item today in just a few hours after end and sell similar. We can say from our end yes this works.

@@ScottieLynch-j9h like wise here after years of hearing about always thinking it was just this gimmick i can say after doing this daily (only to items that are going to be automatically ending and relisting anyway so some days there are 100's some days there are 1000's but there only being ended and sold similar once per month) but doing this my impressions and page views have increased 60% over the previous month and sales have increased 50% i have only been doing this since Dec 1st but as they saying goes if its not broken dont fix it ill continue to do this daily until it no longer has any effect (hopefully that day will never come)

How do you handle measurements when you are listing when you don’t know what size and how much packing will be needed until you actually make the sell and put all the stuff in a box? On weight I always add up and if it’s something that I know needs to be bubble wrapped more than usual I will add 2-3 extra ounces to the weight. But putting the box measurements is my nemesis.

I think some E-Bay KZbinrs are causing newer sellers to leave reselling. These influencers talk about net sales, but seldom actual profits. For Example: I made $72.000 this year. My family and fiends think that's great. In actuality after fees, shipping and sourcing I make 2-4 grand profit per month. This is basically minimum wage when you break it down by hour.. I put about 4-5 hours a day, six days a week into my store. For me this works because I'm retired with no debt.

Plus it took too much time to adjust prices for things that are all different. So I moved to calculated shipping and I spend more time listing new things instead of editing old ones. I do have another account where the items are all the same weight, and so flat rate is the way to go there.

I rarely choose UPS or FedEx because of the issues with them charging a lot more than you were quoted when you print out the label. Plus, in my rural area, drop-off for UPS or FedEx is minimum 15 miles one way. For me, that's about 1.5 gallons of gas- so will cost me about $3.97 right now. That's NOT a feasible option for most of my shipping unless I'm doing other errands in a nearby town.

I don’t mind when you go to the back to pull an item, however when you just keep going back and forth, I have to quit watching, or get dizzy! I do love see your puppy dog and your kitty cats! And love seeing your kids. I don’t change my prices, I figure , everything changes and you better just get used to it. Every time I click onto eBay it seems like something has changed, that’s life, right? Roll with it! Anyway thanks for all your great info, keep on picking 😂Thanks so much. G. From Texas

How do you feel about showing up early to yard sales? In my area most yard sales start at either 7am or 8am. I try to show up right around the start times. I’ve noticed a few times the seller will mention that someone showed up hours prior and bought all the good stuff. How early is too early?

I have been getting the summer texts 1 to 2 times a week. The price increases just affects the lower end items the most. If you are selling a shirt with a max value of $10 incl. Shipping it is just.not worth it. You will have to bundle those items or look for higher value items and make adjustments accordingly

How about Amazon getting competitive advantage with Sunday delivery on my tax dime or worse, Chinese sellers shipping for FREE up to 4 pounds to America on USPS planes and ships? Amazon and eBay both have their focus TODAY in China, where the factories are located. USPS is under UN control and the USPS increase here is mostly for your bloated, unsustainable retirement. EBay sees us American sellers as something to milk in the meantime. I’ve been at this for 17 years and it’s not sustainable. More destruction of America via the UN, but most are not even aware. Too busy running down Stanley cups.

Canadian seller here, we pass on eBay's discounted shipping rates to customers and don't add anything on for our cost of packaging materials. Canada Post currently has heavily discounted shipping rates to the US as well as a very low rate within Canada for items under 200g which is about half the price of what it used to be. Even with it being the lowest its ever been we still get buyers reaching out to ask why shipping is so high. Probably most of that is people thinking that shipping "should" be cheaper since Amazon has "free" shipping on so many items (often it's actually just built into the higher price of the item) For me as a buyer, the shipping price is irrelevant, if I'm willing to pay the total amount to receive the item to my doorstep then I go ahead and buy it, if I'm not willing to pay that amount then I go to search for it at a physical store myself.

I will not stop reselling at all over this issue, but it is more than just the raised rates on shipping because the thing people forget is eBay charges fees on shipping as well so the raise in rates also means a raise in fees for eBay on top of the raised rates

I get those texts about once a month. I almost clicked it the first time but I am always wary of things I don’t expect so I researched it and glad I did. In a way buying at home is old if you think of sears and door to door sales. Many people don’t do numbers well. If they ran the numbers they would not be as flustered. I keep trying to push my asp up but it’s stuck but it hasn’t dropped. I sell 75% media and for a long time I would ship first class instead of media mail because most of my items were limited edition and the customer wanted them yesterday. When first class went away I just changed them all to media and that has helped me a lot.

What are your thoughts on buying items that may be 10 years old or newer that may not have the highest resale value at the moment, but may have in the future, and storing it for 10 to 15 years? I see the value of vintage toys, t-shirts and games, with the thought if i had only bought those 20 years ago and kept them.

I've been reselling full time for 25 years I've been doing this since 98' as long as you have the room and storage do it I'm actually sourcing from my own storage pile of items I picked up in the late 90's early 2000's that were from the 80's and early 90's
@gggeeek
@gggeeek Жыл бұрын
There is cost associated to storing something for that amount of time as well as need to consider inflation. Something that was $10 twenty years ago but resells now for $50 seems really good until you consider inflation and that $10 is really $20 now. Also you have to ask yourself on the specific item you are looking at if its in a bubble or not. You could of asked this question in the 90s about sports cards and ended up with piles of worthless garbage 20-30 years later but back in the 90s it seemed like a solid buy and hold. Some folks have made big money with this approach (for example: Lego resellers) but I suspect many more have not and chances are there is another reseller/picker out there picking up their inventory 20 years later to flip :P

@@gggeeek assumptions can make a you know what out of your self I'd say 30 years ago I was in the minority regarding this picking up and storing collectibles thing is you have to know how to do it and just like anything in reselling you have to make sure your margins are as close to 0 as possible this is why I'd always buy collections in bulk and only offer 10-20% of there value at that time you have to be shrewed in business or you will be out of business real quick

Recently I sold an item (the 4th of 4 similar), and like the previous 3, I shopped for the cheapest shipping. The first 3 went thru UPS, but the 4th was going cross country, and to my surprise, FedEx Home Delivery was cheapest…or so I thought. When the item was delivered, I was notified a couple days later that FedEx UPCHARGED me another $31. eBay just pulled the money from my account, and notified me that their discounted price is “Just An Estimate”. WTF? It cost me about $20 more than other options, and all because I was “Estimated a Price”. If that don’t piss you off, then what does? Anybody else get screwed over on shipping like this?

Well not that much. I called eBay today for explanation on USPS shipping discrepancy. I signed up for give customer my discounted shipping rate back in November. So listing shows $3.81 & when the label prints it’s $4.02. Got no explanation. Was told you could send it eBay standard envelope, not asking how, but said there are stickers in this lot but the other item doesn’t fall into the categories of using this specific label. Chick was in the states, usually the foreign reps are just clueless on any questions. Rep believes will have to re-list every item because of the postal increase, otherwise each sale I’ll be paying the 5.5% increase that went into effect yesterday. Absolutely not, never have any problems on the other platforms. Price increases by postal are increased for my listings for these platforms automatically. eBay’s IT department is So antiquated!

I almost always offer free shipping and just build that cost into the item price, and it usually matches up with current listings, plus people buy multiple things seeing the free shipping option. Anything bulky (like that casette player) I add shipping.

My use of USPS increased dramatically when they came up with Ground Advantage. It truly made it cheaper to ship through USPS. This increase may be detrimental to USPS. I shift occasionally who gets the majority of my shipping depending on prices. This price increase could cause a shift away from USPS. Sometimes decisions made to increase costs can actually decrease how much money comes in.
