The favourite version of Bastian Lee Jones of #JaneAusten´s novel #PERSUASION. A great adaption of #EnglishLiterature of the early 19 th century starring Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root.
Subtitles are not perfect in the moment, it is a matter of time, which I as producer, artist and entrepreneur don´t have. Pleasee a bit wide hearted with that!

I can’t imagine anyone other than Amanda Root as Anne. Her eyes are so expressive-you can see all the years of pain and then the newfound hope and even laughter in them. She has a gracefulness and poise that puts Dakota’s Anne to humiliation

This is the perfect version- characters believable, period atmosphere and detail excellent, and what normal red blooded woman could resist that hastily penned declaration of love from Captain Wentworth. I thought I'd just watch the first few moments to remind myself how good it was- ended up watching every minute. Thank you- I'll be watching it again very soon.

This is the best version of Persuasion…just watch Wentworth’s eyes during every encounter with Anne….they are so expressive and covert and hesitant and gloriously indicative of the times when one could not openly stare without causing offence or the wrong interpretation. Watch the eyes!!

This film is far and away the most authentic adaptation of Jane Austen’s masterpiece. The casting, costumes, sets and locations are perfection, as is the lighting. I agree with all the positive comments posted here. I have watched this film time and time again for the sensitivity with which it was approached. The wonderful, light-as-air music perfectly captures the mood and the times. The film is a true, unpretentious delight. So far, no other Jane Austen filmed version comes close.

This was the best of all Austen adaptations imo, it showed mess and dirt and the men weren’t always shaved to within an inch of their lives. Add to that the brilliant performances, particularly Ciaran and Amanda and you have an exemplar of Austen adaptations.

yeah thats my only problem with it It would be so so so so scandalous to kiss, especially in the street, but weighed against all the things they got right its allowable (considering a circus was passing by)

Unfortunately this kiss is the only scene I don't like. The lighting isn't right, it doesn't flatter her and her expression isn't ideal either. Everything else about this version is perfect, but I find it hard to watch Anne's family bully her like that.

This is, and always will be, my favourite version of Persuasion.. Ciaran Hinds *swoon* as Capt. Wentworth and Amanda Root *sighs* as Anne Elliot , were both cast perfectly and the whole ensemble fit their own roles too.. Even the crotchety sisters who treated Anne abominably, as a servant to either 'keep house' or watch over their offspring. I just get so much out of seeing Anne be in her element when she's in his world. In her world, everyone wants her for something, and don't really see her for who she is. When she notices his sister in Bath, she runs to her with outstretched arms, as if they are already as close as family. She visits the low-society family of his friend, and she smiles, interested all she sees. She meets his man-friend and bonds over poetry, with wise words. So when she finally says she thinks "good company" is lively conversation, we know just what she's means, and we want that for her. In the other version, she says the words, but it's shown not to be true.

"In my heart I know you... Intimately." That line and its delivery never fails to give me the heebie-jeebies. One of my favourite parts of this almost immaculate adaptation is a slight change from the book. I love how close the Musgrove family are and how warm they are with each other. It's such a constrast with Anne's family how welcoming they are with her but a sign of how put-upon she is that she falls into the same patterns of quietly dealing with everyone's problems. My favourite scene is Charles charging into the house shouting that Louisa is conscious. It's so heartwarming. The acting is unparalleled.

As a Derry woman who has somehow reached 66...and who has met Belfast boy Ciaran over the years, as i worked as Prod Sec for BBC/ITV he was the perfect Capt Wentworth as he was the perfect Mr Rochester. Hes Liam Neesons closest bestie and the two of them are great Northern Ireland exports...both still great actors, really great, im a CH fan more myself but recently seen them together in The Land of Saints and Sinners. They were WONDERFUL. .What I love about this version are Wentworths tiny glances,doing his utmost to ignore Anne and by doing so makes him want her more. A great cast every one of them. 😊 as a matter of fact In another life working in TV i did tell Ciaran he was a perfect English gentleman in Persuasian and Jane Eyre.. ...he laughed very loudly and swore blind he absolutely was not and we laughed at the huge hats and manners..! and the fact Ciaran was comfy wearing sandals and socks!...Lady Dalrimple would never approve.😂😂😂

If you watch this movie caferfully, you realise how perfect the cast is. Amanda Root is brilliant, not a typical beauty, but delicate and graceful, with beatiful figure, well mannerd and intelligent. 1.41.04 and onwards she looks so delightfully fragile and feminine in contrast to Ciaran Hinds' tall, strong frame. Watching her makes it easy to understand why a man as deep and intelligent as Wentworth fell for Anne Elliot and why he wasn't easily distracted by Louisa Musgrove's pretty face and girlish manners.

The one (and only) thing I dislike about this adaptation is that they changed William's reason for wanting reconciliation. He was a rich man who grew to want the title he would inherit, not a poor man at all. That made choosing Anne over Elizabeth is more of a triumph for her (even if it was one she didn't care for).

You know people are 'solicitous' for the family's 'cwedit'? - when they eat dessert (posset?) and discuss their cousin, there are about 20 pineapples on the table, four of which have been 'carved' into. The cost in the early 1800s of just one pineapple makes me tremble on this course's cost if this were accurate. Hothouses had developed apparently and they were being grown here. Evenso, a pineapple theft case in 1807 valued 7 of the fruit at six pounds. That means about £100 each in today's money. So even if these pineapples are homegrown from English hothouses, we are potentially looking at £2,000 worth of fruit on that table for that one course (but that's at 1807 prices).

I think that some of my enjoyment of this adaption is lost because I always find it really hard to hear what they are saying. The general volume of the dialogue is much quieter than other film or at least less clear. Wish there were subtitles.

In a way true. But this gives space for imagination and lip reading what they might have said. I love this adaption very much - but I agree on the opposite side - the screaming scenes after the accidents are blowing my ears out.

There ARE subtitles in English. Upper right-hand icon CC. I use it often, as the dialogue/audio for KZbin videos is sometimes uneven.

First I read Janes Austen novels, many years ago, next i watched the movies on video. I bougght the set ofJanes Austin's novel movies 10 years ago. I like it when a writer/director is faithful to the novels, and this is the case in the 1995 series Pride and Prejudice, also in the case of this film where, of course, shortcuts were used (it's a film, not a series). I like this movie, it's a very good adaptation, although it's not entirely consistent with my expectations when I read the book. But it often happens 😀

Ciaran Hinds is such a wonderful actor and such a manly man. I thought he played Captain Wentworth beautifully. And I loved it that he actually kissed Anne at the end, unlike the version with Rupert Penry~Jones where he seemed absolutely determined NOT to kiss her, but let little Anne strain on her tiptoes to try to kiss HIM!
