i'm starting to think, that like Etty said, this DID have something to do with sound, & it was probably building, the band sounds so incredibly tight & awesome, no problem there, i'm guessing they were getting tired of Perry's performance not being of the same quality, and they PROBABLY already discussed it, Perry was probably not too happy, hurt, mad, pent up rage, and it came out there on stage. Perry's voice is not what it used to be, but over the years I've seen him adapt quite well and still make it work with a more mellow approach.

He could be fed only his vocals up load and a click track if that’s what he wanted. Also, all the band members will have their own in-ear monitors, so everyone single person will have their own personalised mix of what they hear on stage. What’s on stage and mixed in those in-ear monitors has no relevance to what the front of house/audience hear.

That might be true for small artists, not for big names. Big-name artists can (and often do) have separate buses and dressing rooms for each member. I've heard multiple musicians explain in interviews that they only see each other for perhaps 15 minutes before they go on stage. @RemmyRiffs

Perry sounded really bad throughout and lost his place earlier in the song. He reminded me of Steven Adler on Sober House when he kept putting his arms out to the side while on heroin. ☠👻There's clips of that here on KZbin. I think Dave, recognised how bad Perry sounded so tried to make up for it by playing more runs and it made Perry angry. But honestly, it looked like P was scanning the crowd with gorilla like body language 🦍and may have been about to attack anyone who triggered him and Dave just was in an unfortunate spot when Perry's gaze went over in his direction.

@@lillylarue659 I was reading something today (cannot verify its authenticity or veracity) that Farrell was increasingly getting pissed with the stage volume and apparently was straining to hear himself, which was throwing his performance off and straining his voice. And that he suffers from tinnitus (like everyone in rock does to some degree). Navarro's solo probably struck a bad chord (pun intended) with him and it set him off. It seemed more like it was a psychotic episode of some sort, or like corralling a drunk who thinks he's bulletproof, especially since in this day and age I have to assume they all have in ear monitors (though there are clearly wedges on the stage front, so maybe he doesn't use them - can't tell if he's wearing them).

Your band can drown you out in ears if their gain is way higher than yours. Happens to bass players a lot. Front of house probably turned his gain down due to his vocal trouble. I’ll cut him slack for his age. But when that happens you can turn yourself up all the way and the others way down but they’ll still be louder

Haha, that's pretty much on point. I was there, and right after they dragged Perry offstage, my wife and I looked at each other and said, "Let's go." We knew it was over without the set even being over, never mind the encore! We got about 50 feet past the venue entrances and heard a loud, collective "Booooo!" from inside. We definitely didn't regret beating the maelstrom of the retreating people out of there.

Nice to see a full song good quality video. A couple things to highlight here that no one seems to be talking about. Dave is playing the opening guitar parts for the song, and Perry starts wandering around while he is supposed to be singing the "ooooooohs" part starting 0:14. Dave plays the last chord of the intro doesn't hear Perry say "3, 4" and looks around to see where Perry is and turns to see what's going on. 0:24 Steven is watching Perry walk around, looks back at Eric, back to Perry clearly waiting for Perrys cue 0:18-0:25. 0:23 we see Eric looking at Perry, then looks nervously at the audience, then back at Perry. It appears Perry is staring Eric down as he walks back to the drum kit, keeps staring at him as he passes Eric in a way that makes Erics eye bulge open,0:26 like "what's going on here?" Perry finally starts the song. Perry is singing really off key and continues to do so. He also certainly does not look quite right 2:26-2:36 All the comments about Perry yelling incoherent things hasn't listened to or been to many Janes Addiction concerts. There is nothing odd about what Perry is doing, it's pretty typical. Ettys and other comments about stage volume are absolute nonsense. First off, everyone but Dave is using IEMs. On top of that, the stage is huge. Anyone who has played on a stage that big knows that. The stage is actually so big that there are a set of side fills. You only do that for big stages. Upstage where Perry is is a good 20ft away from the drum kit which could be the only culprit affecting Perry. Daves amps are way too far away to be causing problems. 4:41 we see Dave bend down motion and say something to what looks to be Perrys wife. Whoever it is does genuinely look shocked and concerned. 4:46 it appears the crew member gets ahold of the mic which is when Eric disengages from the scuffle. When Dave goes back and speaks to Eric, it almost looks like he's saying, "see I told you this was going to happen." None of them seem very surprised.

Man, Perry done snapped. I thought, on the spot, Dave took it pretty well, fair play to Dave. Saw them in Dublin in July, the band was awesome, so good... Perry was acceptable but lacked rhythm his voice sounded weak and strained but nothing as bad as he barfed out at 3:42. Man I hope the band do another album together with a singer who has his shit together. Perry needs to take some time off.

But you're right: his voice was really shot last night. I honestly thought his voice was lower in the mix _because_ it was so shot. I chalked it up to alcohol abuse, myself. That was a big bottle of wine that Perry was sucking down.

I just saw them August 29, in Tampa. The music was great, however, Perry was completely shit faced. He sounded very similar to this performance, just not as passionate. Regardless, I still had a good time! The crowd in the pit, where I was fortunate enough to be, had a lot more energy than the Boston crowd.
