Whenever I want to add great umami flavor to any savory dish - I always add sautéed onions- And I never ever add oil to the pan- it’s totally unnecessary! But you need to watch them - add very small amounts of water if the onions stick to the pan. Stir often. With some patience- the onions become translucent and eventually brown. They develop the most delicious oniony flavor that lends richness to any vegan dish!

I have maintained for a long time that the taste of traditional beef burgers comes down to the condiments; the meat is negligible! But plant based burgers have a lot of flavor on their own and then the condiments actually complement them. So much fun; love Ann and Jane! Watching you always makes my day! Really love the cookbook; bean burgers on today's menu for sure.

A huge thumb's up! 👍 I made these recently, and they are delicious! I doubled the recipe and got exactly 18 burgers, using a 1/2-cup measuring cup. For the buns, I used the Ezekiel brand's "Food for Life" 7-grain English muffins, because they are oil-free. For my toppings, I added a thin layer of an oil-free hummus on the bottom slice and sprinkled a little nutritional yeast flakes on -- that was my "cheese." Then, I added a burger; then I added a few squirts of organic ketchup and Dijon mustard; then I added some sliced tomato; and lastly, I added a handful of broccoli slaw (no sauce, just shredded broccoli that you can get in the produce section in 16-ounce bags, pre-washed). From the moment I stepped foot into my kitchen, until everthing was done cooking, it took me 1 hour and 55 minutes. Folks, these are sooooo good!

If I toast 2 slices of bread and quarter, they’re perfect slider size. Then, add the goodies. They’re so cute and bite size w/ sliced cherry tomato and a pickle on top. Once in awhile, I just use hot dog rolls, cut in 3rds, too. Can’t wait to try your recipe this weekend. Thank you!

Another fun video…I need to try this recipe! Coriander seed does taste totally different from coriander leaf (cilantro), even though they come from the same plant. Cilantro tastes like a sudsy bar of soap 😝 to me, but I love coriander seed! The coriander/cilantro plant has a constituent called a saponin (a bitter alkaloid) that discourages animals from grazing on it. Saponins are found in soaps. The process of soap-making is actually called saponification…so that is why cilantro tastes of soap to some of us. The question I always have is, why do some people *not* taste soap? 😂 If cilantro is well cooked by heat or acid, it can get rid of the soapy taste. YAY!

Sometimes I wonder about those Silicon non stick mats vs just a brushing of oil in a baking dish. I just cant bring myself to use those things that r made with silicon. So for me I use parchment paper and just a brush of oil so they dont stick otherwise they will. I have read some info from environmental toxins and depending on who's study those silicon baking pads r not that healthy. Not criticizing but bit concerned. So hence , making my burgers I do admit to a brush of oil on the bottom of the baking dish with some corn meal & then I can flip them and they dont fall apart. I do saute all my veges in water or vege broth no oil . This is a great burger recipe. I have started using butter beans ( which r just large lima beans). They have a rich buttery taste & love them in my burgers Happy burger eating.

Could you tell us your technique in adding the banana peels to chili? Thx!
@audreysmith2557
@audreysmith2557 Жыл бұрын
@@mamaksstorytime well first, I wash the bananas when I get them home. Before they are ripe. Then, when they are very ripe, I peel the bananas and freeze them naked. I save the peel (of course 😊). I cut off the top and bottom tips, then lay the peel on a cutting board skin side down and run a fork down the length of the peel to create ribbons. I cut the ribbons into little pieces, maybe 1/2” long. When I prepare chili, I will put my chili seasonings into a pan with a little water. I use a lot of chili seasoning. I will make a large batch when I do. My seasonings total about 1/2 cup. These are dried : 3 TBSP chili powder, 2 TBSP chopped onion, 1 TBSP granulated garlic,1 TBSP cumin powder, 1/2 TBSP salt. (You may omit the salt, especially if you use canned beans.). Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then add the peels from 4-6 bananas, tvp, chopped mushrooms, chopped onions and minced garlic. Simmer for about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes, chopped. I usually use canned petite diced tomatoes. Add the beans, for me it’s usually 1# dried beans that I have soaked and cooked beforehand. And about 1/2 cup full-flavored dark beer. (Sometimes I add cocoa powder or coffee.). Simmer for about 1/2 hour. That’s probably not really what you wanted, but I hope it answers your question.

What a great method for making the burgers! I think that these would be good to make and then freeze for a quick, easy dinner! As someone who is fighting Fibromyalgia, I often come home from work exhausted so any meal prep I can do ont he weekends helps a lot. please consider doing more meal prep videos? Thank you!

There are flat stainless sheets that have multiple small holes to use on the grill so that the charcoal flavor gets into the food that is grilling but does not fall through…..

I have their cookbook. Has anyone else tried making these burgers yet? We have a basic "go to" bean burger that is hard to beat. But I want to try these. I'll have to cut the recipe in half. Eight burgers is a lot!

You could probably freeze the extras

@@traveler65 That is an option. I've found that bean burgers don't freeze well. The beans dry out in the freezer and the texture is more grainy. That's been my experience. These are quite different though - so they just 'might' freeze okay. I'll just have to make them. Right? LOL.
