Janet’s vocals are so underrated, particularly her stacked background vocals. She’s the blueprint for this. Love this song so much. ❤
@taterbug12346 ай бұрын
Janet Jackson is pop music, she’s dance music, and she’s straight up R&B. Listen to her songs I Want You, I Get Lonely, and Anytime Any Place… she can really sing. You don’t get nominated for dozens of vocal performance Grammys( across multiple genres, including rock) if you don’t have the chops.
@JacxonLRyan10 ай бұрын
Ciara is one of Janet’s musical daughters. MANY - MOST pop female artists today follow Janet’s blueprint from Ciara, to Britney, to Beyonce to Taylor Swift to SZA to HER. Janet’s impact and reach is massive (the same way her brothers was). It’s just since 2004 when she was blacklisted due to the Super Bowl- there’s been an effort for the past 20 years to erase her legacy. Which has caused younger generations (late born millennials and GenZ) to not know her or her work. Also, in general- there are vocalists and there are performers. Janet has always been a performer - however, that doesn’t mean she can’t sing. She’s actually an amazing singer who stays in her lane and uses her voice in a flexible way- it’s why she can sing any genre - while most “vocalists” are stuck in their 1/2 genre they do. Janet’s voice is “diverse”. She has rock songs, soul, R&B, Pop, country - she literally started Neo-soul from the 90s. Also, Janet writes all her songs (all 30+ #1s - she wrote 98%). She doesn’t use background singers that’s HER on the background vocals. As my music teacher put it years ago “there are keys on both sides of the piano” in other words not every female singer is screaming at the top of their uterus 😂 You should react to That’s the Way Love Goes and Rhythm Nation❤

Janet Jackson has had many ballads like Let's Wait Awhile, Come Back To Me, Again, Where Are You Now and more. This is R&B, pop/dance. I don't know if you got the sexual innuendo in the lyrics "All my girls at the party. Look at that body. Shaking that thing like you never did see. Nice package alright. Guess I'm gonna have to ride it tonight." Next time let the video play out to the very end please.

The opening act was Che Fu (local artist and was awesome) then second opening act was Boys 2 Men which I was a huge fan. Wish I had watched her brother Michael before he passed as i know his concerts were off the chain.

Janet has a very versatile collection of hits as she dips into ALL genre's and does it masterfully. She definitely does more than dance and she's a huge part of the creativity in her vids and choreo. Ciara def looks up to her and MOST IF NOT ALL of the entertainers we know have used her as their blueprint. She also doesn't ad lib as much, she does lots of Jazz scats. Would luv to see U react to more Janet and see what she's all about.

Janet Jackson is a melodic singer like Diana Ross. That's what makes her likeable aside from her dancing. Every singer embodies specific instruments. IMO Janet embodies a flute that sometimes blossoms onto guitar 🎸 both electric and acoustic and also strings. Her harmonies are the strongest skills she has.

Ciara is a Janet descendant, but Ciara is not as dynamic of a vocalist. Janet has a very thin voice, but she has a lot of emotion and dynamism in how she uses her voice across her career. But yes - Ciara is next-gen Janet. But, in truth, all the black pop girlies are Janet descendants. She's the blueprint.
@tlewisisdope10 ай бұрын
Pop isn't really a genre, it's more about how pop artists cannibalize other forms. So this is an R&B song that is pop because the Jacksons destroyed the format as it was designed by white folks prior to Thriller. We think of pop as a genre because it's the easiest way to categorize fun, light stuff - but structurally it's just simplified, commodified versions of a variety of other music forms. Technically Janet is a pop artist because she was massively popular, but in terms of musicianship she's a black R&B artist who fuses a wide array of black music genres into something accessible to everyone.
