She did the flip. She was taking tumbling classes at the time and she said the way it was edited made it seem like it wasn't her. Thats Dominic Cenas style of editing.

The idea of Janet dancing alone in an "abandoned warehouse" was inspired by the movies "Flashdance & Footloose." She's also doing some dances that were popular when this video was released in 1987. @3:42 "The Cabbage Patch, @3:50 The Prep". No stunt doubles used for the backflip. She addressed that it was indeed all her.

Michael's Bad era heavily was inspired by the aesthetic of the Control album. Specially the rugged street choreo of Nasty inspired Bad and choreography from the Pleasure Principle was seen in the Way You Make Me Fell later in the year.

@gavinwilson7889Ай бұрын
Bro you gotta understand Janet inspired so many. JLO stated “after watching this particular video she wanted to get in the business.” She was Selena’s favorite she praised Janet so much before passed away. Aaliyah was always talking about Janet and how much she wanted to work with her She was her one of favorites. Beyoncé was watching and a fanatic…Britney stated in an interview “she wanted to be Janet” Ciara cited MJ and JJ as her inspiration and those are only a few. This song still on the gym playlist

I think this is her best video from the Control album, and her look is iconic. I agree with your statement about her "singing within her range" and doing it well. There are/were plenty of "power ballad voices" in the 1990's, it was a bit of a joke at the time. As a fan of Janet Jackson, I like that she isn't another of those singers. Her live performances, especially then, were impressive. She always puts on a show with her dancing, one of her best talents. And her beats are sick.
@Kim-427Ай бұрын
I know I know but I get so annoyed with the younger generation. They say things that weren’t even a thing back then. Janet is a legend. She’s been performing since she was 6yrs old. There is nothing half ass about her. A fake flip are you serious?! Lol
@LeeDfined7 күн бұрын
Her choreographer Barry recently did an interview and said she did the backflip. She also does one in Nasty and 1987 Grammys performance. She did have a spotter on that only because it was live TV. But you can tell from how she did it that she can do a backflip.

Usually the video & dancing pulls one in so much, the viewer doesn’t focus on the words upon the first listen. Add the subtitles to your reaction of her. The words show how much of a writer she is. Her stuff is hella deep, thought provoking & personal. Love ur reaction tho man. U got some of them dance moves down fast lol

I'm not sure if Janet ever performed the full choreography of this video live in concert. If so, it would have been in the 80's on her tour for the Control album. She performs small parts of the choreography now, but not the full routine.

Um, this is what she' saying: You might think I'm crazy but I'm serious, it's better you know now, But what I thought was happiness was only part-time bliss, you can take a bow. It was all just one big night out on the town, riding in your limousine, We turned right and I said, "Wrong!" which brings us to a stop as the light is changing. Oh, my meter's running so I've go to go now, it's the pleasure of principle. It's the principle of pleasure, it's the pleasure of principle. It's true, you want to build your life on guarantees, hey, take a ride in a big, yellow taxi, I'm not here to feed your insecurities; I wanted you to love me. This has become an all too familiar scene. It's not the first time I paid the fare, Where'd you get the idea of material possessions? Thank you for the ride; nowhere. Oh my meter's running so I've really got to go, it's the pleasure of principle I know what you mean to me. Baby this is nowhere You know what became between you and me? Human differentials. You might say that I'm no good for you, I wouldn't trust your looks baby if I could, I've got so many things I wanna do before I'm through. Baby, you can't hold me down. Baby, you can't hold me down, After all the love that we've been through. After all you've put me through.

Janet hasbeen in gymnastics so she can do the backflip. And she did it in the music video herself. You don't see a wire attached to her back or front. You should have pulled up the lyrics of this song. You weren't impressed by her running up onto a chair and lowering it on its back which can be tricky and dangerous. This music video was choreographed by Barry Lathers
