For button holes, and just about any sort of hand sewing stitch, I highly, highly, recommend the book "Handsewn" by Margaret Rowen. This book lays out all sorts of hand sewing stitches in a very clear, easy to follow method! I checked it out from my local library continuously, until I finally got it for Christmas a year ago. It's clarified so many different stitches for me!

Petticoats. I Went on a petticoat rampage for the last 2-3 months. Why? Not sure; I think it's that I know I'm moving by summer and I wanted to clear out my stockpile of high-thread count white bed sheets. What I've done with each petticoat is used my hip measurement as my waist measurement (all of them have elastic waist bands) and then just made a tube... BUT from there, for each one, the hem length is different and I picked one sewing technique I haven't done to apply to it as a way to test things without the end product being visible (and yet not create something that will get tossed instead of used). So far my favorite has been making a flannel-lined cotton petticoat; these things were popular in the 1800s but the base concept is still super useful for fashion today. With this kind of under layer you can wear all of your light weight skirts and dresses through winter; so while you still might not want to wear spring colors in mid-winter, you can still wear all your favorite neutral color pieces that were only seasonal because of their weight/ thickness. The important detail to try and apply when making a flannel petticoat is to go back after doing the basic assembly (sandwiching/sewing two tubes of fabric together, outer-facing layer cotton and inner layer flannel, and folding over/sewing down the waistband tube after turning them right side out) and do a bit of quilting. My quilting pattern was just the simple grid/quilting squares look because the cotton lawn was really floaty, but if anyone likes hand embroidering/quilting this would be an opportunity to practice your technique without worrying about how perfect it will look once complete.

Sleeve patterns are just wild, aren't they? Can't wait to see the next Sewing Through The Decades installment.

Angela, I have a bunch of vintage pattern to give. I am now not needing them because I make my own patterns. Months ago, I have tried to reach you to give them but was not lucky. I will pay postage. Is there a business or office that know you where I could ship them. I do not know to whom give them and today seeing your video make me think about this pile to give. Ciao

I've recently started sewing, have tried a few things and went on a pattern course, and am largely just frustrated when things go wrong and I feel like I'm wasting material (I know I'm learning but it's still frustrating) so hearing you talk about completely re-doing projects makes me feel loads better to know it's not just me! Dear Angela, as a professional seamstress I understand your struggle with handsewn buttonholes. It takes time to master them and the only way to get there is practise. so don’t get discouraged. It looks to me like the knots of your stitch are on the outside of your buttonhole, where as they should in fact be on the inside - the two rows of knots almost touching in the middle. The idea is to strengthen the edge of the cut fabric. Always wrap your thread around the needletop clockwise with the needle still stuck in the fabric, then pulling the needle through and slightly to the right. with some tension, the knot will form where it should. There is a very in depth video by „The Yorkshire Tailor“ on KZbin. Good luck from Switzerland

One VERY important note when you craft paper or any paper for drawing, writing, or using as mat is making sure that the paper is acid free. If the paper is not acid free it will start fading in color and eating itself.

And this is going to be my 2nd fashion show of the year, at the State Fair, first time taking part in the State Fair, Fashion show. Which is on the 26th, of October. Looking forward to seeing how my collection is going to be laid out, I actually am happy, that I photographed most of the lay out, and gave them a copy of this photograph. So it will be more, to my liking! And I did decide to include my Victorian Mirror,..! I hope that I will get one of those larger display cases, so that they can hang the mirror, too! Basically it s all the stuff, that could be found on a Victorian Ladies Vanity,..! And a few items, that look like they could be from, Downton Abbey. I can't wait, till this friday, that movie is coming out. Definitely, definitely, going to it,. nothing can keep me away from, that one. Not even if the sky falls,..!

What kind of deals have you made with the underworld to get 57 hour days, when the rest of us have to settle for 24??? Your gray jacket is turning out beautifully. @my CBD life I'm 20 and I don't have any energy because I go to school ~38 hours a week, plus hours of homework, assignments and revision for exams that are in a month but I can tell you, thanks to school I didn't have the time and or energy (for anything job-related that required more effort than a doodle) in... approximately three years. Yay... :/ I'm so glad it'll all be over soon and I'm planning on taking a gap year so I get time to have a life of my own again. I have so many plans for creative projects but I just never had the tiiiiiiime :')

Oh I WISH I had that energy all the time. There is a reason this video probably features fifteen days out of 60 - I have a lot of unproductive days, or boring days, editing days, or sleepy days. It's a big part of why I stopped vlogging, because sometimes I only had two days a MONTH where I felt up to talking about what I was working on! So my energy and productivity is an illusion! Also...my lists aren't necessarily a representative of what I get done. I'm pretty sure I didn't clean my bathroom that day, and the dress form got picked up a week later! The cheesecake however, was delicious. So delicious I ate too much and was horribly sick that evening. Good times haha!

In Britain a jumper is a sweater so I always find it confusing when Americans use it as it always means something else - I am not 100% sure even what makes that vintage pattern a “jumper” - the dungaree tab tops? Also here a romper is only ever worn by a baby so not sure what makes the vintage romper pattern a “romper” either. Life is hard sometimes 😭🤣😭🤣 xx
