Dave Goulder's song reminds me of the Celts and our Islands 600 years BC. Christy is probably one of the only artists that could enhance it with this sheer melodic power. Beautiful. XXXX 🙂

Beautiful, thoughtful song. This is magic. I am a Native Canadian Indian and I see his true spirit.

This is the most beautiful, moving song ever. I remember Mike Harding singing it on his TV show in the early 80s. Rediscovering it now feels like proof that it is absolute, basic truth. And ever shall be.

A blessed storyteller that is a part of creation. We have forgotten how to tell stories, and give them meaning! Instead we sit transfixed in front of the TV. We have to wake up!

It's funny. In this age of instant gratification and unfortunately, manipulation; it is songs like these that are always passed on. A simple but poignant realization that we are part of the earth and the seasons are the rhythm of our lives. Especially here in Canada. Great old classic.

Am i right in saying Mike Harding did a version of this song in the early 80's?. I can remember him singing a song about the changing seasons on his old tv show.

"Clothes" is an improvement, though. "...SNOW from off his CLOTHES, and BLOWS his hands" I think for doing such a great rendition of the song, we can let the man use a little artistic license.

@Percy1969 It was written by Dave Goulder. Mike Harding did record an excellent version, it's on Bomber's Moon; download it from 7digital. Bert Jansch recorded a good version too.

How lovely to hear the man who wrote January Man. Definitely Dave Goulder. I'm more familiar with the version made so many years ago by the incomparable Bert Jansch (passed away fairly recently): kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipWWd32cmJ2crZY He recorded this song on his album "Moonshine". Bert Jansch was a member of the British group "Pentangle". You can find Bert Jansch playing other songs elsewhere on KZbin. Rolling Stone named him one of the best guitarists of the past 50 years.

Can you sing and do you want to surprise a Dutch women born in the month of January? Just let me know, I've made a Dutch song 'Januarivrouw' for my wife, based on the Christy Moore song 'January Man'. You might like to learn it.
