I went last summer for a 3 week trip, and i think my 4th day in Tokyo, i was eating in a restaurant in Asakusa and in this tiny narrow street i here a familiar sound, a vortec 5.3. I turn my head and its the most pimped out GMT800 suburban i have seen in my life. And thats saying a lot because I live in the LA area and lived thru that era of pimping out the suv. Thag made my day but could barely get any pictures because i wasnt going to run down the street looking like a dumbfuck chasing down a 13 year old suburban just to get a clear photo

But that's rapidly changing in past 3-4 years, and pressure on car scene is huge, especially as of this year. Few years later we will be "reading" about it only in history books.

Gigidag77 big difference between a ricer and a tuner. you can buy a full exhaust, real nardi steering wheels, turbo's, pretty much anything there for a quarter of the price it costs in retail, plus most of these parts you would have to ship from specific companys. a ricer just needs to go to "that" isle in advanced auto and he is sorted.

Top Gear went back there more recently (with Rory Read doing a short feature), but it was just scratching the surface.

Ah, back then when you could change almost everything on your car. Rims, Steering wheel, Keys and most accessoirs and spare parts fit on most car models. Nowadays with all the electronic and sensors, you cannot do anything and every car has its own specific part, so you have to pay more...
