Japan Is Cheap, Digital Nomad In Tokyo! We all know Japan and Tokyo are expensive but actually it is surprisingly how cheap Japan is (even the Nintendo Switch) when accommodation is taken out of the equation. We are staying for free as we are pet sitting and enjoying low priced food and a shopping spree.
We bought a Nintendo Switch for $300 and are finding that most meals are less than $10. Highly recommenced for digital nomads to come to Tokyo if you can find cheap accommodation. This however is very difficult.

For those watching: He could have gotten the Switch without tax in Japan by showing your passport at Yodobashi AND gotten an additional 5% off if paid with Visa. Also. if buying at the Nintendo store in Tokyo, you can personally select what color controllers you'd like from a much bigger selection.

Nice video you guys did. I'm glad that you have the Nintendo Switch. (Assuming you still got it) I still have my Switch since summer of 2018. (brought my 1st game for it called Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the protective screen on the same day)

I'm from Germany and currently in Japan on vacation and I wanted to ask if I can change language and location from the Nintendo switch (! and also from the games!)? Good video! (And a little tip from me, there are shops where you can buy things without tax when you show your passports :))

I'm a gamer so I really understand Alex's excitement. I'm desktop computer gamer, but someday I wanna buy a gaming laptop so that I can game also while traveling. Alex if you have a powerful enough laptop, you should download Steam, it has a lot of good games which you can just download and they usually have discounts.

We definitely have to go to Japan one day, especially if you can be there for cheap. We're such cheapskates. Have you looked into other teaching platforms? What about Boxfish? They pay much better than Cambly, but you have to schedule your hours every week, but you can tell them you won't be online for a week and it seems fine. They seem pretty flexible. Alex is having his second interview with them soon. Alex also worked for DaDa ABC for 6 months (their shortest contract) and they pay much better than Cambly as well, or is the the freedom of teaching whenever you want that makes you stick with Cambly? I don't know if you have to have proper teaching experience and teaching certificates like we have to get hired by them, but it might be worth it if you can commit for 6 months. There is also another platform, Italki, where you set your own rate and availability and the students book classes with you. Alex used it for a couple of months prior to travelling and could charge more than he gets paid by Cambly.

I (Emma) used to work for boxfish but I personally just didn't like the platform very much.. found it a little glitchy and confusing. That being said I'm sure they've improved a lot since then so it would be worth looking at again for sure. We've heard of italki and it's definitely something we'd be interested in.. being able to set your own price is pretty cool. So far, the reason we have stuck with Cambly is the flexibility and we just really enjoy it. It's more of a conversation platform rather than teaching so it's very relaxed and we have some pretty awesome students who we live speaking to.

Why was the shirt in the ¥100 rack if its worth $5? 🤔 Was it misplaced or is it because of the tax?
@TravelBeans

I think the sign meant the price was starting from 100.. meaning some items are 100 and some are more... Sneaky!!

Left with 500 for 2 people? Insane. I've been living in Asia too but I brought $2,000 with me. China has tons of opportunities but it's exhausting to deal with some of the people here. Thailand was a much better life when I lived there.
