Hey Dave! I love your videos man! I started watching KZbin vids of MM about 8 years ago. Carl, Poo, and Ryu were my go to's back then. Carl being my favorite. I heard the name DGR back then, but never caught any of your videos. Between August of 2018 and February of 2020 I was unable to watch any KZbin. When I came back, I no longer enjoy Poo's videos, and don't even see any Ryu. But I found your channel. I still love Carl's videos (RIP Ruby😢😢😢😢), but I definitely watch you more than any other channel nowadays. Love your content, man! I feel like there should be another caregory after super expert because there are some levels that are much harder than the rest in there. That spring and spike level is nearly impossible and shouldn't be together with levels than need 10-20 tries to beat

I think the biggest problem is starting with only 30 lives and only being able to amass three extra lives per stage. Even if you take it at the bare minimum requirement for Super Expert, 1%, that means it takes an average player an average of 100 attempts to beat it one time. In SMM1, you were given 100 lives to deal with six of these levels, thus about 16-17 lives per level (a bit more if you collected 1-ups), meaning you needed to be six times better than an average player in order to beat it (however you want to quantify that). In SMM2, if you want to start the next stage with as many (not more, just as many) lives as you started the current stage, you can only die up to three times (and that's assuming you grab the 1-ups) on stages that have a maximum 1% clear rate. That puts you at needing to be THIRTY THREE times better than an average player, a 5.5x increase in player quality compared to SMM1. And if you want to GAIN lives (which... you DO need to do), you need to be fifty times better. And that's ignoring some big issues. One, what you said, ANYTHING below 1% is Super Expert, even if it's 0.000025% (which would be 1 in 40,000, which I think I've seen around before). Two, many levels end up in Super Expert because they're BAD, not hard. No amount of skill will save you from an inopportunely-timed kaizo block, costing you one of your precious three lives you can afford to waste per level. Just a shitty situation all around.

Had me busting a vein in my head watching you play the spike and spring level. Every time you stepped onto the spring from the left you would bounce up towards the LONGER spike chain on the right. You should have hopped over to the block directly UNDER the long 3 spike side and stepped onto the spring from the right, so if you bounced up it would bounce you left towards the shorter two spike ceiling. Unless that causes you to hit the 3 spike ceiling anyway, but I didn’t see any demonstration for reference.
