They are used to chill the dolphin and whale meat that they still hunt. It is all very traditional.

南アルプス・八ヶ岳の八義(yatsu-yoshi)に同様の写真がありました。これは主にかき氷に使われるのでしょう。また、日本では刺身(魚)を多く食べる文化があるので、これ以外でも、日本に輸送するための魚の生鮮保持のために、その多くを輸入する東南アジアの気候は暑いので、日本で製氷された氷は現地に送られ魚を冷やすためにも多くを利用しているとも聞いた事があります。どちらも全く同じ氷かわかりませんがその文化があり、9:00辺りの映像も同様に日本の氷が使われてるのは事実のようです。

.... Why is it ingenious? I don't understand it. The Joseon Dynasty, the last ancestors of the Republic of Korea, kept blocks of ice that had undergone "this ingenious" collection process in refrigerators made of stone or wood. According to Korean historical records, the Silla government had its own refrigerator management department, so they must have kept ice blocks ever since. Preserving blocks of ice was ingenious in ancient times, or at least until the Middle Ages. But only in Korea or Japan is it an ancient tradition.
