It's not a Gepard. It's based on a Japanese Type 74 Tank. The only thing the Type 87 has in common with the Gepard is the twin Oerlikon 35mm's, which are utilized by many AA guns. Britain figured out a radar and FCS was best accommodated centraline to the turret, therefore the autocannons must sit on the edges of the turret. The Marksman turret used this configuration before the Gepard. Other NATO countries adopted this principle, as did many non-NATO countries. The United States stayed with the long running tradition of placing the guns front and center, creating the M247 Sergeant York, one of the prototypes used the same 35mm Oerlikons as the Gepard/Marksman/Type/87/etc.

In the anime GATE there is a scene in the web novel where soldiers from the pro-war faction that got shot by the oerlikons while trying to flank the Japanese convoy. Note that they were in Medieval style unit. A 50 cal (~12mm) is already a devastating round against the human body, let alone a 35mm set on high explosive mode

No, the chassis is based on the Japanese Type 74 tank, not the German Leopard 1 and the turret, while similar in design uses an entirely different configuration on the search and the tracking radar. On the Gepard the search radar is a concave rotating dish on top at the rear of the turret and the follow radar is a dome shaped piece on the front of the turret. The only thing that both tanks use are the Swiss Oerlikon 35mm auto cannons.

b k You can't always expect a country to invent its own technology everytime they wish to update their armory. That's not even remotely possible. You look at todays military technology and take a few picks from what is most modern in present day standards, and then you improve upon that platform with your own additions and such. China did it, Russia did it, many countries did. This is simply normal. The Type 10 remains an impressive tank with a capable combat efficiency.
