Is the US against capitalism? Japan can buy whatever they like with their money. This is a bad precedent as other countries will now restrict similar moves from American businesses.
@vivliforia226220 сағат бұрын
The problem is many countries intentionally don't buy lots of American products and keep demanding USA to buy lots of their products. The result is USA suffers debt. For example: Japan exports more to USA but imports less from USA. USA suffers debt every year. The same goes with China. China is notorious for exporting more but importing less. Both Japan and China are export-based countries. USA is an import-based country because many countries design USA to be like that. The world gets money, USA loses money.

@@vivliforia2262 Well the USA is a service economy, while China manufactures a lot more. So what’s your point? Why would China buy services it doesn’t need? Why don’t Americans buy their own products to support their own country but choose instead cheaper Chinese products? Also many countries buy American products (i.e. military products). As you know the US is banning or forcing the sale of TikTok to an American owned company, and is now blocking the purchase of this American company by Japan. This doesn’t sound very capitalist (government meddling in private sector) so please don’t be shocked or surprised if let’s say the European Union forces the ban or sale of Apple, Microsoft, Meta etc. as their own “national security risk” next time.

@vivliforia2262 That's what the US has been doing to strengthen capitalist countries during the Cold War. It was to make countries like Germany, Japan, UK, and Korea to be able to fight against communism. But then, the US wasted their money on a failed attempt to beat communist Vietnam, useless investment on ICBMs, and relying too much on Keynes's ideology. If you're complaining about that, then you should complain to Truman, Eisenhower, Lindon, and Nixon.

In the summer of 2023, they announced that they were considering strategic options, including a potential sale, and in December of the same year, Nippon Steel announced plans to acquire them. In other words, U.S. Steel sought to be acquired due to their poor performance, leading to Nippon Steel’s acquisition plan. Japan created the katana... arguably the most sophisticated and remarkable steel sword in human history... USA needs to set their misguided pride to one side, and realize it is an HONOR to partner with the steel masters from the other side of the world. Katanas are fire. As for national security supply chain concerns, the supply is HERE. Not in Japan 🙄. What could they possibly do? Blow up the facilities managed and operated primarily by U.S. citizens? In that event, the national security concern is ourselves... Maybe there is some real truth to that, considering how bad we are at identifying honest allies. USA needs some serious soul searching. I will also point out (for the privileged few who made it this far) that there is a man who owns property in Mexico (and who isn't Mexican... ) Housing a mind-boggling amount of scrap steel, and this extra - significant - supply flying under the radar is fed into the market every so often, whenever it is deemed suitable to the person who controls this supply. Just saying.

Hey, I am Japanese. I fully understand the American perspective on this issue. Steel companies are vital to every country, without exception. At the moment, this matter has garnered significant attention from the Japanese people. Japan has been the largest investor in the United States to date. Should this relationship be undermined, there is a risk that Japan’s stance could shift from being pro-American to pro-Chinese and anti-American, potentially plunging the world further into chaos. This is not an outcome I desire. I sincerely hope that the United States will uphold fair trade between the world’s leading capitalist nations.

We do not want to get caught out being unable to fully supply our military if a war breaks out. Plain and simple. This is not about Japan at all. It is about foreign ownership of key industries. This makes them inherently unstable and undependable if we have to go to war. We are not worried that Japan being a risk. We are worried about some offshore company owning one of the key industries that powers our economic engine. It is simple when you stop trying to generate clicks or ratings by making it look like big, mean US is beating up on poor, sweet Japan. Nothing of that sort is happening. FOLLOW THE MONEY. WHO MAKES THE MONEY, HERE? AND WHO IS FOMENGING DISSENT IN THE UNIONS? The nasty US owners, who do not care who runs the US so long as they get to keep their cash. This is about super rich people not getting what they want and using their power to create a "situation" and then feed it to you guys, who lap it up like a kitten loves milk. Try doing som e research on what is causing all this BEFORE reporting what they want you to report. WHO BENEFITS FROM DW REPORTING THIS NONSENSE? Try reporting on THEM.

Japan to join BRICS
@vivliforia226220 сағат бұрын
If Japan joins BRICS and abandons US dollar, well many of Japanese exports to USA would probably be banned: anime, Crunchyroll, manga, Nintendo, PlayStation, Sony, Japanese games, Japanese cars/bikes (Toyota, Subaru, etc), American branch of 7-Eleven, and many more. USA also could shut down a Japanese gas company in USA. Japan sure could retaliate by banning Google, KZbin, Twitter/X, Facebook, McDonald's, Disney, Amazon, Netflix, Apple, Microsoft etc. But believe me, the impact of USA banning of Japanese products/services is absolutely more dangerous to the Japanese economy than the impact of Japan banning of American products/services. It's because Japan's economy is also heavily dependent on exports to USA. Losing US market is a nightmare for Japan. Losing Japanese market is not really a big problem for USA, because many American companies have long failed to penetrate into Japanese market. Japan is a small country located in the middle of monstrous empires: USA, China and Russia.

If the current leadership at the company can't figure out how to modernize the company without subsidies, so they seek to sell our critical industries to a foreign company, then they've proven their worthlessness as leaders. If U.S. Steel goes bankrupt, the government should buy any useful working capital from it for a low price and then setup a structure where the power to decide the company's future is put into the hands of all of the workers to let them vote for new company leadership and decide how their company should be modernized. If subsidies/bailouts are given, then the current company leadership should not be allowed to remain (unless democratically elected by the workers) or profit from the intervention.
