Man for so long I thought so too, I mean I love them soooo much and they're in my top 5 bands, but all the live vids of them I watched, I thought they didn't sound too good. But then I saw them live the other week, and boy!!, One of the greatest things I've seen!! I guess when you're there watching it's so much different, but they sounded perfect, it was like the sound quality of the albums but the raw performance of a rock band. :)

They're a little sloppy here... kinda like when they played this tune at my first Japandroids show. I was a bit disappointed, as it was a favourite of mine. The next time I saw them, it was so loud in the tiny club that it was tough to even discern what songs they were playing at times. But the third time, at a hotel in east Vancouver circa 2010, everything clicked - the sound was mixed a lot more competently and the performance absolutely shredded. They were tight and fierce and everyone in the place was going nuts. Saw them a few more times in both Calgary and Vancouver, and while they always put on a solid show, they never quite matched the transcendence of that night at the Waldorf.

Absolutely the venue and sound guy can make a huge difference in a show. I honestly appreciate the different tonalities and changes that are in live music though.
