I remember the first time you showcased popcorn machines like these. The whole concept of cranking a handle to prepare your popcorn is rather interesting to me and makes me wonder what it's specifically operating inside the machine. Anybody got any idea? Edit: It's official, it does nothing. It's just a distraction tool for the kids.

If it is actually used in cooking, its for stirring up the kernels so they actually pop and the popcorn and it doesn't burn like how popcorn is stirred in theaters if they don't use a bowl that the popcorn falls out of.

Turning the handle has no effect on the popcorn, it's just a way for kids to pass the time.

I doubt it does anything. If it was to stir the popcorn to stop it burning it would be a fire risk as it relies on the person actually doing it
