Watch the whole video guys 🤦🏻♀️ 菅総理の英語のレベルが低すぎるって思ってる日本人の意見を結構見るけど、英語のネイティブスピーカーの私から見るとそうは思わない。😅 菅総理が言ってることはおかしくない。😊👍

Thank you, TokyoBriBri, for your valuable input. I've learned an awful lot from you. I've always been fuming over all those misguided, brain-dead criticisms from those self-proclaimed cultured Japanese, who seem to claim they know enough English but actually know only a kindergartener's English. Through this video, you've not only vindicated Suga's English but "saved" me and other concerned people. Keep up the marvelous work!

I saw all the Japanese comments saying stuff like "Your grammar is incorrect" and stuff. The only fault I could really find was the second use of Madam first lady, but that still makes sense. If I received half the criticism Suga received, I would have quit Japanese long before I hit N1.

I was on HiNative yesterday, and someone asked whether the PM's tweet or a ""corrected"" one from another Japanese person was more natural. The PM's tweet was way better! And it sounds perfectly fine to me as a native English speaker. I wouldn't say 'pray', but that's just me. 'Madam' didn't seem strange to me, but I am not American. What's with all this harsh criticism? Learning a foreign language is difficult enough!! If people reacted like this to my Japanese mistakes, I'd be choosing another language lmao

honestly, I thought that tweet had a charming sincerity that would have been lost in convoluted, perfect, university grade and 5 times proofread by english professors english. I wonder if he would have gotten as much backlash if his tweet had made fun of Trump or wished him to die....great times we live in

Yeah, very true! Love him or hate him... I don’t think this was grounds for criticism. If I got ripped into every time I made a mistake in Japanese I wouldn’t want to speak it anymore!

Well i mean at least was concern for somebody and was trying to support besides for Japanese it can be WAY harder to use English sometimes if you know your beginning sentences right. But i'm not gonna say it was "offending" tho lol Edit: i know this is a joke, i was just trying to be part of the joke as like a memey(?) Way

@@TokyoBriBri i can guess why 1. Because people are thinking he is siding with trump and also with most Americans, African Americans, and Mexicans hate him SO much Or 2. Just saying that the Japanese prime minister is a bad minister for saying what he feels and people nowadays can't take anything serious or not that seriously (And for his bad English lol)

This is more of a protocol type tweet. It was more of a formal tweet rather than a tweet between friends. American English has no "proper" /formal language. Of course the word Madam is also a reference to a woman in charge of a brothel

Technically, the wife of a President is properly addressed as "Mrs. ". Being First Lady is a role, not an office. The term First Lady has not traditionally been used as an honorific in direct address with First Ladies of the United States. The Spouses of US officials receive no special form of address - they are private citizens - they hold no elected office. A woman President would be addressed as "Madam President" in a manner similar to our use of "Mister President" for males.

Interesting point! I think it’s easy enough for us Americans to get confused as well! Would have been great if he had said “m’lady” or something 😂

@@TokyoBriBri As you said, I'm pretty sure this was written by someone other than the Prime Minister. He and his staff are still new to their roles, and writing diplomatic correspondence is never easy, even if language issues are set aside. One thing that we all can agree on is that Prime Minister Suga's English is much better than President Trump's Japanese.

People are morbidly find fault with others. This is the epitome of Japan as of now. Well at least around Tokyo. I was born and grew here in Japan as a normal Japanese, then still don't get it what people are so fuss about. A: nothing. I already know they would admire Trump, if he tweeted likewise in Japanese. I'm here because the sensation of the article on Yahoo. I don't believe folks are so aware what they are actually saying and doing on the Internet nowadays, and what they could cause as these consequences.

I can't speak English properly. So I don't deserve to judge his English. But why everybody say "making mistake is ok"? Non native speakers can't speak perfect English. It's obvious. But if making mistake is ok, native speaker's KZbinrs don't need to make videos about English. I fed up to hear those unuseful advises. Making mistake is nomal thing to us. I hope they just teaching correct English or not saying anything, not making videos about English. It's weird to say like making mistake is ok and teaching correct English at the same time.
@TokyoBriBri4 жыл бұрын
Making mistakes is a part of learning. Nobody’s perfect! Language is all about communication, so as long as people understand you, that’s what matters the most! And then you can start fine tuning your language skills! But don’t stress over making mistakes. Just make them into learning experiences.
