The Japanese adaptation of Spiderman was the first tokusatsu series to combine the concepts of a giant heroic robot and a costumed superhero pilot and it is therefore the precursor to Super Sentai which starred a team of such heroes and was in turn adapted for Western audiences as Power Rangers. It has all come full circle.

There should be a story of Peter Parker meeting Japanese spiderman. They become good friends, go out for sushi and beer, baseball games. And eventually fall in love with the same girl, Maru Jane. A story of a bizarre love triangle.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who enjoys and loves this alternate version of Spiderman. This series is one of the cheesiest and freakiest things I've ever seen, but in a hilarious and very entertaining way. It has very creative episodes with surprisingly dark tones and storylines for a "kids" show. The team behind it sure did a decent job with the limited budget it had.

Even Stan Lee himself has expressed his approval (and genuine enjoyment) of this alternate Spiderman in some interviews (one of them is available here in KZbin BTW). His introduction (with his mecha and all) in the Spider-verse comics finally confirmed his canon status within the Marvel multiverse.

From 1:35-1:39 that is the kaizokuban version of Battle Fever J from “Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger” (Pirate Squadron Gokaiger) due to the fact that GokaiYellow is transformed into her Battle Fever counterpart Battle Cossack, and the first two Battle Cossacks were both male, the first Battle Cossack was originally second-in-command but was killed in the 33rd episode of “Battle Fever J”, and another guy took his place.

I agree with this review. I've watched every episode and it's movie and I enjoyed all of it. The show is a product of its time but entertains despite that. The opening, ending and bgm music is catchy and Takuya (the Peter Parker of this show) is loveable. I recommend Spiderman fans to watch this tv show.

My first introduction to the web slinger was "Supaida-Man". As a kid I was disappointed when I came about other Spidey iterations (Nicholas Hammond,Electric Company,Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends) because they had no vehicles or Giant Robo Leopardon like the Japanese version - boooo!

Kinda crazy that Toei was so cheap that they wouldn't replace the mecha suit after it wore out. Makers build costumes which look better than that on the Replica Props Forum all the time that they made in their garage out of foam floor pads.

This show was having a new monster costume built every episode, and they didn't hesitate to spend the money to make them. They could have made a Frankenstein of previous defeated monsters and had an all-new monster for almost nothing. They could have used the money they saved by not making a new monster costume that week to make a new mecha suit.

This version of Spidey is one of the origins for the Power Rangers due to the fact the monster as a giant and destroying it with the robot came from this series and would become part of Super Sentai. Ironically Marvel before Saban tried to adapt Super Sentai here in America.

Yeah...Super Sentai started a few years before Supaidaman....This is a mistake in the video, they had 2 shows before Supaidaman, and then they just used the idea of a hero having a giant robot for the 3rd sentai show Battle Fever J.

Well the show was a first. It was the first Sentai show to have a giant robot fighting a giant monster. So I'm sure that played into why they didn't replace the mecha suit.

the Supaidaman show also has a lot of heart. there's a lot of interaction with his sister, and young brother, and he's sometimes a bit thoughtless with his girlfriend (who he sometimes leaves stranded in the road). i like it, but it should have had a variety of villains, instead of fighting Professor Monster's cronies all the time. also, the Kaiju at the end were always beaten the same way :-(

I agree. I actually like more the character interactions of this show than the action (which is entertaining and funny as hell nonetheless). The "kaiju" battles are one of its weakest points. As John says, the Leopardon suit was damaged after some episodes and had to use old footage to recreate the battles. So they always end very quickly and in the exact same way.

...Although, a Japanese rock band re-recorded the "Go, Go Power Rangers" theme with ten times the awesome of the original. As for Japanese Spider-Man, I sorely wish Greg Weisman had brought him into "Spectacular Spider-Man" as a foreign exchange student. That would have been hilarious.

Power rangers feels very similar to various super sentai series because it rips all the good footage from them before adding in their own watered down and unwatchable made for murikan audiences mess. Not because they took ques from the Nippon version of Spider-man.

FIY: Powerful Rangers is just a chack made cheap ass adaptation of a long running Franchise known as Super Sentai (which is a Japanese national treasure mind ya). And I know they got the character totally wrong (Everyone knows this) but think about this as a Japananization of an american concept. It might have been destroyed, but it held off Solus long enough for everyone to escape, AND forced him to burn out the Enigma Force. And then Miguel and Lady Spider found it, and after Electro accidentally revived it, they rebuilt it and armed it to the teeth. It redeemed itself.

Misterprickly Well, close. Power Rangers, if you didn't know, is an adaptation of Super Sentai, a tokusatsu franchise produced by Toei and created by Shotaro Ishinomori (who also created Kamen Rider, Cyborg 009, and more). Japanese Spiderman was made by the producers of Super Sentai after a deal was made with Marvel (as the video states), and this show's popularity influenced later sentais, primarily the inclusion of a transformation device and, obviously, the giant robots. Interesting to note is that Toei was also working on another Marvel-themed tokusatsu show that was to come out after Japanese Spiderman. However, they eventually decided to make it an original property, becoming the third sentai, Battle Fever J (which is super-fucking goofy even by tokusatsu standards).
