I watched this and it made me miss Okinawa so so much. It's gonna be a year soon since I moved from Oki to the mainland and almost everyday I feel like going back:,) Okinawan cuisine is my favourite in all of Japan (yes) and generally the lifestyle is just much more laid back and I love it.

I watched this video the other day and I am watching it again today, and I forgot to mentioned that after I saw you guys eating the Onigiri with Spam and Egg the other night, I actually cooked rice right away and eat it with spam, egg and sprinkle seaweed on it for dinner. Not as good as the onigiri you guys had obviously but man, whenever I watched your trip videos, I am always hungry! I should really put Okinawa on my travel list! Great video, guys!

Authentic ethnic foods.....nice....that blue parrot fish?...we call it Uhu here in Hawaii. Usually steamed or baked not eaten as sashimi usually.....Long red fish...Trumpet fish...use it for bait. never ate it before. Fried fish looks like what we call weke......and the donuts....andagi...add blueberries or strawberries and dust with cinnamon sugar....really good! This vid made me hungry now!

I agree as well. But my Okinawan friends insist they are a different ethnicity and would highly resent you not mentioning that they are actually in Okinawa. Historically not the same mindset at all. I have friends who say that they are Japanese married to an Okinawan. Might be a little OG but they feel very strongly about it. I don't argue with them.

FYI, parrot fish are hermaphroditic. They start out in life as red females. One in a harem will turn blue which will develop into a male to "service" the harem of red fish. If you take a red parrot fish which taste identical to the blue, you are not harming the entire group but since blue parrot fish mate for life, if you take and eat a blue one you are destroying future generations of the red harem which will no longer be able to reproduce. Fishermen know this and the Okinawans certainly do. There should be no excuse to catch or hook a blue parrot fish to keep for sale and if you see one in a market, do not support this bad practice by buying it. Insist upon a red parrot fish and the vendor will get the message, loud and clear.

The blue fish is a parrot fish, one of the main fishes that contributes in the making of sand. They chew on the reef and grid it into sand. They are forbidden to catch them in the Caribbean. Not only beautiful but have a purpose in life.
