I love Rin and this series on bad translation! 😂 Interesting to note culturally in Japan how you say to a colleague doubting themselves “I’m not very good either” to let them save face and build rapport with them, but to your boss you say “I’m confident about that.” In America, I think it might depend. If you are good at the thing, you might offer to help them in certain cases. But it seems in Japan, even though it’s actually his job to help her, he downplayed his talent to make her feel better.

Yeah, that’s just weird to me. In the US, telling someone you’re “not very good” at the job you were hired for will leave 9/10 people thinking “Then why are you even here?” Meanwhile, that last guy is gonna know that you’re downplaying your abilities and he might get annoyed, thinking that you’re humble bragging and trying to shame the rest of them. (ie. If I’m “not very good,” then what does that make you idiots?)

And then they tried to get him to ask for the Kama Sutra, and he got so confused about the “Kamastora” that he even called Rin to see if she had heard of it. It took about an hour for someone to finally break through and tell him he was being fucked with.

honestly "you're my ideal guy" isn't even wrong and it only sounds very slightly strange. "You're my guy" is slightly slang-y but it's an acceptable thing to say even in a professional setting in a lot of places and would seem normal, that or "you're *our* ideal guy" are both completely fine and actually used. It's one of those things that I guess I'm sort've aware of but don't really thing about a lot is how 'loose' we are when it comes to referring to people

Sooo idk how to break this to you but just sounds like you're too naive to get it lol. If you say "you're my ideal guy/girl" you're basically coming on to them....lol. try saying that to anyone, see what reaction you get

To make things short, it only sounds strange because of the possessive pronoun "my". Try using "the" instead of "my" and it won't sound strange anymore. "You're the ideal guy" Longer version would be; "You're the ideal guy for this job, you're hired"

@@ethangold4900 not really for that short version.... the phrase "ideal guy/ideal girl" is going to have that strong romantic connotation leaning regardless how you phrase it without absolutely following it up like you do in your longer version. It honestly just doesn't help either that it's a stiff and awkward sentence that no one fluent will really naturally say to someone.
