Watching this man raw dog all of this equipment without any sort of ear, eye, or face protection is a testament to his life-long dedication to his craft.

@@大ニワトリraw dog is a term that means “without protection” Which is also possibly a double-entendre about using condoms during sex.

He wore glasses, 2 pairs of glasses when grinding, and gloves. That’s better than a lot of people do.

I love how he left the forged finish and didn’t polish the whole thing shiny 👍

The Skyforge feels more... awake. It's always been said that the souls of the heroes of old are what give Skyforge steel its strength. But I think the forge knows the greatness of Kodlak's soul. I can't really explain, but it feels like it's... young. I'll wager it could now forge metal the likes of which hasn't been seen since eras long forgotten. I'm eager to try.

It amazes me to see the differences in techniques. Some makers seem to need almost a scientific grade clean room and these old masters build them knives off the dirt floor using mud water lol.

Interesting that the steel is hardened but not tempered afterwards so it will be very hard to but brittle and have very little flexibility - I’d be interested to know if longer knives for other jobs in the kitchen are tempered? - great video, always love watching anyone making things by hand.

It's a sanmai with the carbon steel in the centre. So your right with the edge being brittle but the strength comes from the mild steel jacket where the knives concerned.
@Theravadinbuto

I had the same thought. He was water hardening, but it looked like he wasn’t going to that high a heat, so maybe not as brittle as it could be.
