you're a true inspiration to those of us who who have been discouraged by hearing things like "it takes 15 years to learn to speak Japanese with any fluency." seeing that what you've done is possible makes me more confident in my own studies.

TheJunkhacker please don't take wrong I really think he is doing great but to be honest almost everyone studying 2 hrs a day (average) will end up speaking like that or even better specially if you learnt languages before. He's goal was at the beginning very challenging but 3 moths ago he changed it so his new goal became average fluency is relative you can be fluent asking for a coffee at starbuck but not fluent talking about politics. But if fluency is both then he still needs years. Studied 10 moths in japan living already 4 years, working 3 years with them just in japanese. Married with one and I have a kid also japanese. All his mistakes are normal mistakes after 9 moths. I spoke more japanese in my first year. Now I speak less but better. I respect him because to study japanese discipline is needed. And you can do it too.

My original goal was (and still is) B2 on the European CEFR scale. Gonna be tight, but I'll get as close to that as I can. In any case, what I *really* want is a great trip to Japan and the ability to connect with Japanese speakers, which is likely to happen regardless.

Jose Fabian Torres Ruiz I mean, you did study japanese in Japan while he learns it by himself in America. There is a big difference. I have friends who after studying 2-3 years in Japan are able to speak japanese almost fluently( including talking about politics and etc.), and before some of them had been studying japanese in their home country for years and couldnt even get past N3. I'm not saying that he is fluent but I think, if he had learned japanese in Japan, in 2 years, with his ability to learn languages, he would be able to hold conversations on different topics including politics. And I apologize for my english, im not a native speaker.

Japanese In A Year as I said before I really think you are doing great and started following you because I was curious to know if you way could be better than others. Once my teacher told me mastering n3 will make you speak a lot and talk about almost anything and I'm agree. If your goal is have nice trip till n3. Problem comes n2 n1 when you start to learn that japanese use those terms in specific situations. It is like taking the red pill or the blue pill but as everyone you won't know till you have to take it. Anyway I looking forward to see your results after a year. Cheers

sota exactly that is what said just japanese is not easy for a western mind and think is easy is why many people quit it. So knowing is hard should be a help so you are ready when barriers comes. That's why this guy is great because he have discipline. Cheers

I've watched some of the videos in your channel, I'm so amazed by your growth!!! How have you been practicing to listen to native Japanese language!?!?
@kuroichan1017 жыл бұрын
Wow. You improved so quickly. I guess this goes to show that speaking and listening is very important because though I have been studying for quite a while I couldnt keep up(my vocab is pretty low too).

Just came across your channel. I'm not studying Japanese at the moment, but I love language learning and I love how thorough you are in your approach to learning Japanese! Rock on, man! Could you tell me what program you used to record this conversation?

awesome stuff Shawn! You'll be giving Benjiro a run for his money soon haha. I've been trying to decide for quite sometime where and how to spend NYE in Japan. Initially, Tokyo was my first choice, but have since opted for Osaka as it is closer to my starting point for my 14 day bicycle tour starting on Jan 1st. Japan being so small, I'm almost certain we'll bump in to each other at some stage! see you then :D

How would you say your listening comprehension is at this point? Were you able to understand everything he said in this conversation? Granted, I'm just a beginner, but it seemed that he was speaking pretty quickly and you seemed to have a pretty good grasp on what he was saying. Awesome work dude! I plan to post a Japanese progress video of my own soon. I've been studying consistently for 2 months! I'm probably going to steal your Japanese/English subtitle style, just a heads up. :)
@JapaneseInAYear7 жыл бұрын
I'd say I understood the majority of what he was saying. Yeah, it was pretty quick, for sure. I was missing certain words (畑 / field, ものすごく/ immensely, New Year's vocabulary at the end come to mind). But I was able to follow enough through context to keep up in most parts (didn't know 'field', but new 'farm' and 'wide' and I've been to Ohio, so I got the picture). Anything I caught while transcribing for subtitles that I didn't get, I made a note of for future flashcards.

Motivational thank you I am also an American trying to Learn Japanese. I video myself with conversation on my learning app. But you might have to focus on something that I have been told to do. Eliminate the " uh's, um's and eh's... Practicing this force discipline has actually increased the speed in which I recall.

you make want to title this or include the words 'my iTalki lesson (with)' since that's what led to me finding your channel in the first place on you 8k viewed video. I was curious about people's actual lessons they were having themselves (regardless of the language). Just a tip :)
