The real payoff was the Qataris investing $1.1 billion to buy a 99-year lease on Jared's building at 666 Fifth Avenue after he failed to secure a deal with a Chinese firm closely connected to the CCP. Jared was unable to meet the mortgage payments and the Qataris basically paid out the whole thing and more for a non-equity position. Who pays 99 years rent in advance for anything? Unless its money laundering that is.
