This is an excellent video. Its well explained, shows good examples of the rotation modes discussed and taught me Blender principles that I did not know about. Thank you very much Jared for making this video and I look forward to seeing more videos like this. I had wondered about the rotation modes before and how when they were to be used.now I don't have to wonder any more. Thanks again Jared. Excellent job!

Holy crap. So essentially what I got from this is... If you don't know the math in Quaternions, essentially you have no easy access to the graph editor when animating in Quaternions. So, what Quaternions have against Euler, is that it essentially makes you focus solely on posing in the 3D Viewport, and not worry about the Graph Editor at all. If you want a rotation to ease in or ease out, you need simply need two keyframes for the rotation, whereas in Euler, you would just have one keyframe, and then adjust the Bezier Curves in the Graph Editor. WOW! Honestly, I was preety intimidated by animating in Quaternions, but now it doesn't seem so bad. In fact, it seems way more freeing than Euler Rotation, not having to worry about the Graph Editor is a huge Plus.
@-Rook-
@-Rook- 5 жыл бұрын
This is very true, its best to stay away from the Quaternion numbers and focus purely on the viewport rotations. 3Blue1Brown has an excellent video that explains Quaternions and 3D rotation about as simply as it can be explained but even then it gets very deep in complex maths. Its notable that Quaternions are about the only mathematical concept that I have heard of being referred to as 'evil' by noted mathematicians.

I tried to get blender on my chromebook but it dosen’t work. Here’s how to download blender. I ended up with Blender 2.79b. Ready? Go to settings on your chromebook, go to Linux (Beta), when you do it just open it up, type sudo apt update, when it’s done type sudo apt upgrade, then type sudo apt install blender. ✅

I am right now, trying to make a simple plane with a square form rock left ro right at its center, using quaternions, on the Y axis, and I don't understand why when I animate it, it goes spinning on the other two directions because I didn't order rice, I ordered, fries to eat with my hamburger, stop forcibly enrolling me to an option that adds a fee to my subscription (see the parallel" I didn't ask it to rotate on any other axes than the one I'm interested in but it does, and it's still quaternion and I don't know what am I doing wrong or where I should redirect my attention to correcting that a simple. plane. I just want it to rock, like extend your arms in a T pose and tilt your upper body left to right , not suddenly flip or spin like a tourniquet or spinning top >,

I am perplexed why Blender does rotations this way. If you rotate the rocket 90 in Y, as Jared does, and set the "transform orientation" to Gimbal (usually it is default to global) you will see that the X Axis is now the negative Z axis. Why doesnt the Z axis rotate with Y? This is the key to the whole thing, I suspect.

What option do you have on so that the red, green and blue lines rotate with the object aswell? Mine remain the same when animating and it's a pain to work with

You might have found the answer by now..For anyone else dealing with this, switch to local space and you can see the gizmo rotating..
