When it came out, we still had hope the future would be cool. The tech in the series didn't always seem fanciful enough for proper sci-fi, so it didn't seem to deliver on its premises. Ten/twenty or so years later, yea. Seeing how far its future is from our present, it's just a fun watch. Return of the Joker is a wild ride, 100% delivers on being an amazing animated Batman movie.

My biggest peeves with the show was firstly that Terry never really had a thematic nemesis until Bigtime, so his villains felt very sporadic. Secondly Dana was criminally underdeveloped. After 3 seasons I still cared more about 10 than I did her.

Melonie isn’t a villain in my books. Sure she did try to kill Terry when she was being 10 but she’s only doing this because of her father. Her family is just strict and only cares about the family business. Family who forces their child to do something that she doesn’t want to do is not something a family should do. Nice summary but you got a few details slightly off. Max didn’t think Terry was Batman at first, she had adjusted the program to search for someone who could be leading a dual life as a Joker and Trey’s name came up. It wasn’t until the very end that she realized he wasn’t a Joker but in fact Batman. Beyond's corporate darkness and theme of hopelessness was exactly why it wasnt popular, there was still a lot of optimism to the future in general, so people just didnt get this show. Terry is a lot more brooding even for a Bat, dont know why that connected with me so much. I was a downer quite literally as far back as I can remember, so it kinda makes me tear up knowing its a cult classic, probably cuz a lot of people relate. At least we're not alone.

There have been people pitching a Spider-Verse like Movie for Batman Beyond. I really hope it goes through. Also fun fact, when the Batman Animated series was in its peak, the people behind it were asked to make a Series where Batman is a teenager by the execs, in order to appeal to the younger Audience and ALL of them were pissed.
