These remind me of the ube/purple yam mooncakes from a famous Chinese bakery in the Philippines called Eng Bee Tin. They have some unconventionally flavored mooncakes along their traditional ones as well. My faves are the choco-banana and durian mooncakes from them.

I'm not a big sweet potato fan but I love "old fashioned potato candy" which is a homemade american candy that most people don't know about made with regular potatos. I love the idea of chinese moon cakes. They are absolutely beautiful. I have an idea to create my own take on mixing the two that I think might be good. I wanna try making it sometime.
