If Carsley wants the permanent position he needs to show he's got the balls to leave someone out. Foden and Bellingham were getting in each other's way in that left half space. He should drop Foden and play Gordon as a proper winger, Palmer at 10 and Bellingham alongside Rice.

I never would have played Bellingham in the 10 or Foden on the left. Both poor decisions. Last year it should have been Bellingham alongside Rice. Foden in the 10. Gordon on the left. Palmer in for Foden in the 10.

Foden should always be on the bench. If managers are picking him in big games over balancing the team then there is an issue with the manager. Hes a second striker, not a winger or creative 10 type player. People think hes the KDB heir at City, he isnt. Notice how Haaland goals slow down when he comes back into the team. Foden likes to spam shots from the edge of the box. Palmer would work with Kane, Saka and Gordon.

Foden is a really good player who had an exceptionally good last season for his club. Palmer, on the other hand, is a generational talent, teetering on world-class. Nothing has changed from a couple of months ago except the fact that Southgate has gone!

Problem the FA have is that none of the top PL managers (or any others) would want the England job because they are foreigners and likely happy enough with their clubs, that only leaves the likes of Southgate and Carsley etc who we can actually get. Granted we have of course had our share of foreign coaches over the years so there may be others interested even now but it seems unlikely any of the top ones would apply and be turned down for someone with less experience.

It was never that complicated, all Southgate had to do, was drop Bellingham into midfield and put Foden in the 10 or make a choice between both of them and leave one on the bench. Italy back in the day had Totti and Del Piero for the same position, one started, one was on the bench, you have to make a decision, unfortunately Southgate was lacking

Ain’t a Madrid fan, but ya don’t drope Jude. Jude is a natural 8, with capabilities to play both sides of the ball very well. Only reason the guy was slotted in as a 10 was because Madrid literally had no striker last season. He had to play almost as a false 9 with his big body crashing into the box. It was always simple.. play Gordon or jack on the left. Kane or Ollie at striker, saka on the right , Palmer as a 10, Jude, Declan holding. It’s that simple. Foden is a good player, hasn’t done anything for England tho. Had one good game against the Dutch in the euros . Instead of cramming him in, use him as a super sub until he gets into form like saka and Palmer are. He’s a great rotation piece as a 10 or on the right. Too many actually 10s to be playing Jude there, let rice hold and Jude be an 8 to be box to box. He’s made for that

The FA need to either appoint a foreign elite coach or just let this talented group of players manage themselves. Managers like Southgate and Carsley don't have the managerial pedigree, experience and body of work, in the form of success, to manage this highly talented group of players and they only serve to end up handicapping the squad through their naivity and lack of experience. You could see with Bellingham's reaction to Southgate in the Final of the Euro's last Summer, he probably felt the players themselves had a better understanding, as a collective in how to play against Spain than the guy in the dugout who has never won anything as a manager and never likely too with his tactics and outlook on the game. Your defence wins you leagues and your attack generally wins you tournaments.
